This is right in the city center and one of the bigger locations that I went to. I am a fan of this chain, great variety of products and produce including ready to eat food which were good quality.

This is one of the largest Albert Heijn stores in the city centre, it's located on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, it's in a good location within the city, a short walk away from Dam Square and the Magna Plaza Shopping Centre, it's also opposite a tram stop which is handy. Albert Heijn is just that one brand you can't escape while in The Netherlands, the supermarket chain has almost a monopoly, I'm not a big fan of this model as a lack of competition can lead to higher prices. The prices at this location were fine but there isn't much else to compare it to fairly. The store had many staff members, including on the shop floor to assist customers. I had to ask an employee to help me find the cow's milk using the translation app on my phone, as I do not speak Dutch. The staff were friendly and helped walk me to the area of the store where the milk was located. The produce section and cheese counters were particularly good. The self-checkout area required a receipt to exit, you could choose from a short or long receipt to save paper, but this seems common at most AH locations. Don't worry if you're a tourist, there is an English language button on the self-checkouts to make it easier to use. 4* - One of the better Albert Heijn locations in the city.

A full sized supermarket! I always think it's funny how AH brands itself as the local "supermarket" when majority of the chains are rather crammed and small. Yet when I walked in, I truly feel like I'm inside a supermarket. You are pretty much on your own once inside. There are staff members working behind the bakery/deli counters but you need to navigate the place yourself. It's pretty straightforward: fruits/bakery on your right upon entering, then cheese and sushi, on your left is your day to day grocery need. You can choose to self check out (pay with card) or have a cashier ring you up (pay with cash or card). Get a croissant here! It's hot, fresh, and crispy! And only cost you 40 cents! Amazing.

I am so glad this is here. Aside from enabling my hagelslag and Chocomel pilgrimage - This branch of Albert Heijn is useful for picking up things you might find you need during your visit to Amsterdam. Friendly service.

    Only 3 euros of deliciousness

Yes! Favorite low budget super market! Always make a stop by to get snacks before a trip somewhere! Favorite thing to buy is the fresh squeezed juices for a pint for only 3 euros! What a bargain! Plastic bags are 25 cents more though.

After my veggie and fiber depleted weeks traveling through Switzerland, Austria and Germany, I was trilled to get to Amsterdam. They actually take their fruits and veggies seriously here!! I stumbled upon Albert "Hygiene" as we affectionately called it. We had been thoroughly scarred by the steep meal prices in this city, so we decided to start getting our breakfasts at this supermarket chain instead of spending 20 euros at a breakfast place. It was the right choice. I got this salad no less than 3 separate times, it was a quinoa salad, with what seemed to be broccoli slaw, edamame, almonds, pistachios and a sesame dressing. It was too delicious for words and under 3 euro. We also got a cheese pastry, a cinnamon and nut pastry, yogurt and fresh squeezed juice. All were fabulous and i recommend shopping here for all you budget conscious travelers!

Great supermarket to use if you are staying in Amsterdam and need to pick up lunch items and drink. This is the largest of the Albert Heijn stores we visited on our recent break. We dived in late on a Sunday evening to escape the rain and found a spacious if a little oddly laid out store with a great range of food and drink. There is also a gall and gall branch of the off licence chain in the basement - check their offers because you can get some great bargains on spirits. Perfect for picking up Dutch cheeses and cold meats, crackers and crisps, fruit and bread. They do their own brand on lots of items - seemed to be priced reasonably - I guess this is their Tesco equivalent....while I am more of a Waitrose man. Fine though for grabbing top off stuff in you are staying in the area.

    Yum!!!!

Really nice grocery store. We had a feast in our hostel thanks to their impressive selection of cheeses, meats and beers.

I have to give a lot of love to the Marqt. I was really impress with their Gluten Free section. You will find a wide selection of Gluten-free Items. You name and they got it! The prices are fair and reasonable as well. The Marqt is one of the largest retailer of natural and organic foods in Amsterdam. For me there's nothing like the taste of organic food. I love spending my Saturday afternoon shopping for fresh produce and learning about new recipes and herbs. After, then having lunch or a cup of tea at the cafe upstairs. What I love about living in Holland is that they provide a lot of natural and organic products to its purest state. It's so nice to actually have the pleasure of tasting the authenticity of the food. Plus this is the ideal place to shop for quality and organic meats. A lot of their products are free from artificial additives, sweeteners, colorings, and preservatives. Please keep in mind there are 3 different locations in Amsterdam and 1 in Harlem. Enjoy! http://www.marqt.com/?p=winkelsenopeningstijden

A deliciously fresh bottle of juice for under 3 euros! You put your bottle under the spout, push the button, and watch as your fresh juice is squeezed into your bottle. The juice is fantastic and you can taste the freshness of it. The oranges are just sweet enough and it's so wonderful to know it's all juice with no additives. The bottle is about 6 oz., but you can also purchase a larger bottle (can't remember the cost). There's no way you can get a bottle of fresh OJ in the states for this little bit of money! The food they carry seems to be pretty much on the healthy side. They have ready made meals you can get for a quick dinner. There are also the regular grocery items for those looking for more. Lots of different ready made salads, a meat market, fresh veggies, a fish/seafood section, and a bakery are also here. Their offerings are extensive and it's a great place to pop in for a quick meal or snack item. I got a container of soup and a margarita focaccia at the bakery that our nice hotel clerk reheated for me. Great for a quick and inexpensive meal! Sorry, no pictures!

It is in an ideal location for tourists looking to grab a cold drink or stock up on essentials, while in the city, especially due to its location being very close to public transport links, and museums. It is located in a basement but you can get a decent mobile phone signal inside, even after heading down the escalator. For tourists, Albert Heijin is the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands, it's pretty much a brand you can't hide from and it seems they have stores everywhere you look with almost 1000 stores in the Netherlands. Unlike some AH stores, they do accept foreign Mastercard and Visa cards here, which seems to have changed in the past couple of years, as some older reviewers did state this wasn't possible. This specific location is pretty large and carries two main benefits over the AH To Go stores dotted around the city: - Product Selection (Larger store, so has many more products including the freshly squeezed orange machine, which was turned on and functioning) - Price (Reasonably cheaper compared to AH To Go stores, meaning you can save some money here compared to their stores nearby, in general I noticed prices were slightly more than back home, but prices were good compared to other stores I visited in the Netherlands) Most of the checkouts here are self-service, but there are a couple of manned checkouts. The self-checkouts were reasonably easy to use, with an English language option, and a staff member on hand to help. I did experience an issue where I required a staff member's approval for my product, I did only purchase a bottle of freshly squeezed orange juice, so I'm not sure if they offer random checks or if it was some sort of verification. You will also need to save your receipt, or request a short barcode to leave the store, so make sure to take it with you! 4*

They have a bunch of great snacky things - nuts, dried fruit, chocolates - I actually picked up packs of chocolate drinking sticks (like a chocolate ice cube stuck on a popsicle stick) to bring home to give away to friends.
