I think there was only 1 salad that was marked gluten-free. There is a freezer of frozen gluten-free breads and cakes. Unfortunately they had large ice crystals on them like they had defrosted and refroze multiple times. There is a Schar gluten-free section, and I got some gluten-free pita and hummus. The rest of the store looked fine but it was very disappointing that I can't get something fresh that's marked gluten-free when there are so many packaged food options here. My husband doesn't have any medical dietary restrictions. He said his pizza bread was good but that the sausage roll he got was tasteless. First I thought the new Marqt will be small, but it is actually had 3/4 stores! They even have a cooking island to let customers try their new products. They have so many great and fresh assortment of products like high quality of sea food (and yes also oyesters), great salmon packages of Steur BV (highly recommendable), awesome cookings, cakes, salads etc. The opening of also awesome and it was almost like a Rolling Kitchen, but than inside Marqt! They let me taste so many great things that I almost didn't need to have dinner anymore 8) The highlights of my tastings were: - Meatball which was BBQed in a green egg - Indonesian stewed beef with rice - Jopen beer (yes it is the first time that they sell it via Marqt) - 2 different salmon of Steur BV, soo yumm! - Cold meatball with crunchy bread inside - Red wine with bubbles like champagne - Great icecream So if you live in the neighbourhood, pls do check it out! However, please do keep in mind that they are a bit pricey and they only take pin, which means no cash when shopping in there. The Marqt has a chain of stores located all around Amsterdam, so if you don't come across the one on Ceintuurban, then I am sure you will stumble across another one. Imagine a store that has better and healthier produce and goods than say Whole Wallet, er, sorry, Whole Foods, but has the pricing of Aldi. Stunning, that's what the availability of the food is here. And most of it comes from within the country. The Netherlands is one of the top food producing countries in the world, you read that right. Traveled by their massive greenhouses once on a high speed train and they're as far as you can see for what seemed like an hour. So yes, a LOT of them. This country has their collective shit together. And, you can get all that good produce, sustainably packaged most of the time, right at Albert Heijn. The locals just don't get it, and if you've lived here all your life, why would you? But there's more, the number of great tasting, healthy choices here, reasonably priced to my mind, have few equals in my travels. Food here is simply better tasting, fresher, hasn't traveled as far. What an impressive difference. How sad that I'm returning to the old subsidiary of Kroeger where I live. Ugh.

They carry plenty of prepackaged fresh food options including salads, sandwiches and wraps. They also carry some basic grocery items: bread, milk, bottled water, fruit juice, cheese, cold cuts, and some baked goods. Prices are very reasonable. In fact, I stocked up my hotel refrigerator with AH groceries and saved a ton of money. The best part was the free Holland soccer mascots. The Holland soccer team's mascot is this cute little furry worm thingy. I took a handful of them home to give to my cat as a toy :) I love AH!

A deliciously fresh bottle of juice for under 3 euros! You put your bottle under the spout, push the button, and watch as your fresh juice is squeezed into your bottle. The juice is fantastic and you can taste the freshness of it. The oranges are just sweet enough and it's so wonderful to know it's all juice with no additives. The bottle is about 6 oz., but you can also purchase a larger bottle (can't remember the cost). There's no way you can get a bottle of fresh OJ in the states for this little bit of money! The food they carry seems to be pretty much on the healthy side. They have ready made meals you can get for a quick dinner. There are also the regular grocery items for those looking for more. Lots of different ready made salads, a meat market, fresh veggies, a fish/seafood section, and a bakery are also here. Their offerings are extensive and it's a great place to pop in for a quick meal or snack item. It is in an ideal location for tourists looking to grab a cold drink or stock up on essentials, while in the city, especially due to its location being very close to public transport links, and museums. It is located in a basement but you can get a decent mobile phone signal inside, even after heading down the escalator. For tourists, Albert Heijin is the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands, it's pretty much a brand you can't hide from and it seems they have stores everywhere you look with almost 1000 stores in the Netherlands. Unlike some AH stores, they do accept foreign Mastercard and Visa cards here, which seems to have changed in the past couple of years, as some older reviewers did state this wasn't possible. This specific location is pretty large and carries two main benefits over the AH To Go stores dotted around the city: - Product Selection (Larger store, so has many more products including the freshly squeezed orange machine, which was turned on and functioning) - Price (Reasonably cheaper compared to AH To Go stores, meaning you can save some money here compared to their stores nearby, in general I noticed prices were slightly more than back home, but prices were good compared to other stores I visited in the Netherlands) Most of the checkouts here are self-service, but there are a couple of manned checkouts. The self-checkouts were reasonably easy to use, with an English language option, and a staff member on hand to help. I did experience an issue where I required a staff member's approval for my product, I did only purchase a bottle of freshly squeezed orange juice, so I'm not sure if they offer random checks or if it was some sort of verification. I am a huge, huge fan of Marqt and was SO happy when they opened near my house. This is a small one…read morebut they have many things I love, including a sizeable cheese section (always with samples), lots of Bbrood brand bread, some nice wines and quite a few heat and serve options (dinner entrees, soups, etc). I have discovered a few new products thanks to their samples that are always out. Yay for samples. On the negative side, as already mentioned the store is small but does a lot of business. They often only have one register open so you can stand in line for a little bit. And now a story to illustrate my love for Marqt: a few weeks ago I had a very bad experience at the register when the price that was ringing up for one of my items was incorrect (or so I thought). The checkout girl did not try to solve it and I left fuming mad and without the item in question. I had to go to the Albert Heijn down the street to get it which was punishment enough if you've ever been to that store. And on top of that I threatened to boycott the store (which unfortunately lasted about five days before I went into withdrawal, couldn't stay away longer!). Inspired by an Australian friend who writes email complaints and praises to businesses here in town, and channeling my former American self who used to love to do this, I sent them an email and told them what happened. For two weeks I got no response which made me even more mad - but then someone from the store called and apologized and tried to make things right. And that's another reason I love Marqt, because I feel they try to do the right thing. For me this is excellent customer service - especially when I saw last night that the price that was ringing up was indeed correct (oops oops oops, must pay more attention to per kilo versus per 500 grams). The store must have realized I had read the price incorrectly and they still went out of their way to make me feel better about how I was treated (even if the cashier was right in insisting on the price that was ringing up). Anyways, if any of you are doubters, yes it can be more expensive than other stores (though not always), but the food quality is good and so are the people apparently, which makes for a very happy me :)
