I returned a few minutes later and turned to the worker. She had the card but I was told I was leaving without paying (?!). I paid again (!). It was only when I returned from the Netherlands that I noticed that I had to pay twice for one purchase. More: it's no answer for my letter from Jumbo (!).

You can get all your basics here, but if you want fine wine and other specialty items you should supplement by going to the nearby cheese shop, butcher, fish monger, wine/spirits shop, and bakery. The staff is very friendly and helpful, prices are reasonable, and it's clean with plenty of variety. Heads up: we have to use cash here. Like many other stores in Diemen, they do not accept credit cards of any kind, and would also not accept our debit (visa-issued) cards. They do accept Maestro debit cards (which are European and we don't have). So come with cash!

I have to give a lot of love to the Marqt. I was really impress with their Gluten Free section. You will find a wide selection of Gluten-free Items. You name and they got it! The prices are fair and reasonable as well. The Marqt is one of the largest retailer of natural and organic foods in Amsterdam. For me there's nothing like the taste of organic food. I love spending my Saturday afternoon shopping for fresh produce and learning about new recipes and herbs. After, then having lunch or a cup of tea at the cafe upstairs. What I love about living in Holland is that they provide a lot of natural and organic products to its purest state. It's so nice to actually have the pleasure of tasting the authenticity of the food. Plus this is the ideal place to shop for quality and organic meats. A lot of their products are free from artificial additives, sweeteners, colorings, and preservatives. Please keep in mind there are 3 different locations in Amsterdam and 1 in Harlem. Enjoy! http://www.marqt.com/?p=winkelsenopeningstijden

You must try it, if you have Celiac or you have been trying to make an effort to take a break on the gluten. It's literally the best! No bakery or pastry shop that i have ever been to can top this one. Go to the frozen section and you will find a medium size freezer separate from the rest of freezers, it is near the seafood. It is exclusive, only for gluten-free breads, pastries, and pizza dough. Open it and grab 2 apple pies because you will wish you would have bought 2 instead of 1 and also buy 1 gluten free pizza dough, it's better than the one at Alberjein that taste awful. Also once you get home with it, then put it in your oven or microwave to defrost. It taste amazing, it will melt in your mouth. Also keep in mind there are other gluten-free products spread through out the store, but the apple pie is so far the best. Enjoy!

It is in a good location, close to residential quarters as well as other smaller cafes, businesses and a metro station. The store was mostly clean and was reasonably well stocked, I only came in looking for a bottled drink, I did originally struggle to find where they were located within the store, but was able to find one without requiring assistance. Unlike most Albert Heijn locations, this store does not appear to accept Apple Pay and the staff members seemed unaware of this. I later found this out at another Albert Heijn store after having a similar payment issue. It would have been so much easier if the staff members here were aware of the issue, or if it was explained to me at the point of the payment being declined, to avoid my time waiting in multiple queues to unsuccessfully purchase a drink. I tried to pay for my shopping at the self-service checkout with Apple Pay and was told the payment didn't go through with no further explanation, after unsuccessfully trying to pay on two occasions, I asked the clerk working the self-service area who seemed unsure, she came over to me, before leaving me waiting and going to another customer, she eventually told me to go to a manned checkout, where I faced the same problem. The clerk at the manned checkout simply asked if I had any other payment methods, to which I replied "No" The selection may be good but the service is inadequate and I notice through other reviews the issue with the staff being unfriendly and unhelpful has been going on for a while unfortunately. 2*

But often I also miss a lot of products in those smaller AH's. So I spend a while searching for a bigger Albert Heijn which has a the products and not just the standard stuf. The annoying thing is that you cannot find this on the website, the site only tells you if a place is an AH-to-go, a normal store or an AH XL. But after a little search I found this Albert Heijn! It's quite close to my apartment and they have everything I need, it is much bigger than most locations! Definitely my favorite AH! :)

The Dutch dog had chunks of cheese, mustard and onion (see pic). For a mere 5€, we took a chance on the Dutch dog and enjoyed it greatly. Never had strong cheese chucks on a hotdog before only shreaded cheddar. If you see this hotdog stand try the Dutch dog, you wont be sorry. FYI, I think the meat was just common mixed beef.

This is a Persian convenience store that doubles as a general convenience night shop in Amsterdam…read more They're open from 10 to 10 every day of the week so we're off on the right foot. What can you say about this place? It's just a convenience store and it does a good job at being one, nothing special there. However, where the "special" kicks in, is that it carries LOTS of Persian products. Bread, candy, cookies, ingredients, even music and probably more. I have the Persian heritage and although I don't speak Farsi well and am not really in touch with my Persian side, however my Persian side is very much in touch with me in form of fur on my skin, I cannot live without a certain few ingredients I grew to absolutely love since I was a kid and you know what, I can get those ingredients at this little shop for reasonable prices. One thing I love is saffron. They have pretty high quality saffron here. It's expensive, but hey... it's saffron! I make a killer saffron cheesecake! Yeah baby combining American with Persian! Another thing I absolutely cannot live without is rosewater! No, shut up, it's not that chemical pink concoction you can get at the Chinese shops filled with emulsifiers and god knows what else. No, I'm talking about REAL PURE ROSEWATER. It's as clear as water and it consists of two things: distilled water and rose essence, actual rose essence. Recent research also shows that it's extremely healthy for your heart and arteries among other things. Persians just throw that stuff in about ANY desert they have. Rose ice cream? Typical Persian! Rose nougat? Yup, we have it. Rose and saffron pudding? Please! Rose rice wafers? Check! I can continue, but I won't. Speaking of deserts, you can get lots of different kinds of Persian stuff here if you wanna give it a try. One of two more things I wanna mention is Persian knife-cut noodles (hand made). They are called "reshteh" and I love putting them in my homemade soups instead of vermicelli or whatever. They're pretty awesome! The other is dates! Persian dates. There are lots of different kinds of dates but at the Turks, you get those hard, shiny brittle-ish dates. Blaghh Persians have these dates called "Rottab"... or "Lottab"... I honestly don't know if it's an R or L. Who cares. Anyway, Try those! They MELT in your mouth! Chewing: NOT required! You can easily pull the seed out and put the date in your mouth to let it melt! They have those in front, at the cash register. Check the photos. So go here and have a look-see if you wanna explore and broaden your horizon.
