Ekahi Health is located at Waterfront Plaza on Ala Moana Blvd. it is on the Diamond Head corner of the center. There is a really big sign on the front facing side. There is a parking structure, metered parking, and the city bus actually stops in front.
I am here at Ekahi Health because I had a heart attack a little over a month ago. Cardiac rehab was not offered to me, but a few of the health professionals in the hospital recommended that I check this program out. If you aren't familiar with what Ekahi Health does, they are a wellness center. They offer health counseling, delicious vegetarian food to purchase, spa packages (will update with details), and the most prominent of their classes - the Ornish Program.
The Ornish Program is based on research by Dr. Dean Ornish. Google him and you will see that his program is the real deal. Since being here in Hawaii, Ekahi has help so many people get their life back on track. Under the guidance of doctors and nurses, you are taught the benefits of living the program. There has been findings that you could reverse heart disease, live longer, and possible weight loss. I can't attest to this yet, but have met some people and heard their stories.
The program involves 18 sessions. You meet twice a week with your cohort. You will exercise, learn how to build and cook your Ornish friendly meals, have group support, and learn how to deal with stress and learn to meditate. I've only had one class, but I do feel the bonding already with my new 'family'.
If this is something that you are interested in, talk to your doctor. That is the first step to seeing if this is a program that could benefit you. Ekahi Health does have open house for you to go in and check out. I suggest you check out their website for that info.
I will update as I am further into the program. But if my first class is a sign of things to come, then I am excited to see how this will help my health. read more
