I've been there twice now…read more First night (Saturday) there was very loud, derogatory rap music playing. Families with kids eat there, they should not have to hear stuff like that. It was very hard to communicate with the server due to the noise. The actual menu is a lot smaller then what is shown on their website. Especially fish options. I had grouper tenders which were small and mostly breading. Not worth it. Fries were excellent. Tartar sauce appeared to be pure mayo, no sign of relish or lemon at all. Ketchup, mustard, and salt were the only condiments on the table, not sure if anything else was available, like cider vinegar or even pepper. It's a pub, you would think all that stuff to be automatic. Second night (9 pm Sunday) I tried to go elsewhere because of my previous night's experience, but not many other options. Most of Alma was already closed. Tonight there was no music playing, so I was able to have a conversation. I had the olive burger with steak fries, my son had boneless wings with Thai sauce and waffle fries. Everything was very good, and a good value for the money. I guess I need a third night to be a tie-breaker.

I have been to Bravehearts in the past since family lives in Alma. This past visit was painful…read more This business smelled awful. Basically took my drink to the outdoor patio (which was nice) and ended the night. Although I can't confirm my family member who likes to drink alot said the place was undergoing sewer repairs in the basement.

Bannister Bar & Grille - With big screen TV on one side and 2 over the bar, and 2 over by the pool tables. How great is that!

Bannister is my home town. It's a tiny village that oddly supported two bars, two churches, and two…read morerather large reception halls for a long time. It lost its grocery store a long time ago. Now it's down a reception hall now, but the churches are stable. While the bars, both of them, go up and down with the economy and interest. This bar has been remodeled and opened up. They run karaoke some nights, and when I was here during Lent, they served a huge crowd fish dinners on a Friday night. Even though we arrived a little late, there were only a couple of tables left. It was filled with regulars and groups of folks that travel around checking out Lenten Fish Fry nights. Except for the kids, everyone in our fairly large group had fish. It was available fried or baked, with a choice of potato, and a salad bar. The salad bar is exactly like what you find at many small town places. Several mayonnaise dressed salads, some lettuce from a bag, a few toppings, and dressing, particularly ranch. It was clean and fairly fresh -- from such a crowd. The dinners were all good and arrived fairly quickly, though they weren't particularly interesting. This is good, solid food for the same kind of people. The beer is cold. And the drinks are cheap. There are babies in the bar. Some nights there are still bar fights, and some nights someone drives home a local drunk, so no one has to worry. Tipsy bridesmaids and groomsmen will find their way down to ease the pain (and get lost for awhile) when the reception at the hall down the street is too hot. I love this bar.

Some (or all) of their ciders are JUST yeast and apples, so there's no extra sugar added that makes it undrinkable. The two running the tasting room (Saturdays only) were a pleasure to talk to about cider and craft beer. They even gave us a tour of their facility without us even asking. We ended up doing a flight of ciders, getting a pint, and taking home two bottles. Glad to support them!

The owners are super friendly and knowledgeable of their product, which was conjured up and created in their basement! My current favorite is Deliberate Serendipity, but don't be surprised if they run out or have rotated something else on tap. I also love most of their red ciders, for example, The Red Queen! That's right, RED ciders because they grow and harvest red fleshed apples, therefore they have red cider!! Have you ever seen a red fleshed apple before? Me neither till I came to Forgotten Ciders! They do offer snack foods like chips & dip & have Michigan made pop available for non-alcoholic beverages. I do wish they offered cider donuts or candied apples, even if it were seasonal! Yum! Maybe I'll talk with the owner It is quite a drive out, but worth it! Just look for the signs when driving in the Midland area! Cheers
