I was having an issue with my Expobar Office Lever machine and did some online research for local repair shops as I did not want to ship it to NY. I found Jim through one of the online forums and found several recommendations for him. He responded quickly to me and we set up an appointment. Of course, right when I'm going to get the machine fixed my other machine, an ECM Giotto, started having issues as well. We arranged for me to drop off both machines and I figured I would also have my Macap M4 grinder serviced and cleaned also, since I was there. Jim turned around my grinder quick, no new burrs needed just cleaned up and checked out. My Expobar needed a pump and grouphead rebuild which Jim did a great job on. My Giotto needed a new computer, which Jim put in but it failed again the next day. Jim picked the machine up from my house and replaced it again and it is working great now. This is a great way to get your espresso machine fixed or clean. Jim is straightforward and timely. He will let you know right away what kind of problem you have, what the choices are, and how much it will cost. His rates are reasonable and he really knows what he's doing. He also has great suggestions if you need a new machine, or a part. After Jim fixed our LaPavoni machine several years ago, we finally burned out the motor. I was very worried when my machine started making a loud noise. I dropped the machine off for repair while I was travelling for a week. I came back to basically a brand new machine! Jim went above and beyond to keep me informed about what work was needed and what repairs could be delayed to reduce cost. Jim is a true God at fixing these espresso machines. All the previous reviews sold me on getting our prized machine over to him. I did, and he totally saved the day. Our Expobar Office Lever was heavily used by 35 people over 2 years. It finally broke and the office freaked out. Productivity went down. It was a disaster. Jim saved us. The machine is now better then it was when it was brand new. I brought my E-61 HX machine into Jim when a part stopped working, after attempting the repair myself and realizing I was in over my head. After exchanging emails with Jim, he provided a rough estimate and I dropped off the machine in Pacifica. While initially the idea of just leaving your espresso machine at a stranger's house can be a little disconcerting, I eventually realized the reason he probably doesn't have a "proper" storefront is because many of the machines he services are on-site in cafes. The repair was done the next day, and his rates were very reasonable. Jim is also a total stand-up guy (and very responsive via email). There was a slight hiccup with the initial repair, and when I emailed him about it, he came to my house the next morning to pick-up the machine and resolved the issue that day. I would absolutely use Jim's services again. Espresso repair options in this city are limited to begin with; some people don't always take on new work and others can be expensive or shady. He was booked out 2 weeks at his Palo Alto location. I was willing to wait. However, once he has the machine he does a complete diagnostic and estimate within 48 hrs. I cannot say enough about EJ Services. My Rancilio espresso machine would no longer heat up. I called EJ to arrange a repair. Jim explained to me how the service would work, but said before I drive over to Pacifica to drop off the machine, it would be better if he just walked me through some quick trouble shooting. He patiently waited while I followed his instructions to remove the top of the machine and trouble shoot the boiler. And it worked! He saved me both the trip and the cost, and did so happily.
