Our project manager, Arthur was on-time for the scoping appointment. He took time to understand our needs, investigated the attic, ducts and all the existing equipment, before making any recommendations. He designed the optimal system for our house to be cost effective, provide highest comfort and be energy efficient. He was not pushy and was upfront about the ballpark estimates and timeline. He also walked us thru the various rebates that are available for the replacements from local utilities. Arthur's quote was very competitive, in fact better than those quoted to us by Costco referred contractors. Nur's installation crew - Eldar, Bhakridin, were very professional and thorough. They didn't rush the job and left the job site clean and clutter free each day. They accommodated our requests for placing the electrical wires and conduits so they are not in the way. All the equipment both indoor and outdoor were cleanly laid out, secured and wiped down before hand off. Always smiling and respectful, one of the best installation crew we have had. As a white glove contractor they took care of all the permitting, inspection paperwork w/ the city, all the paper work for us to receive the rebates. They even completed the warranty registration with the manufacturers for all the equipment! We would highly recommend Arthur and Nur HVAC to anyone in the Bay Area needing heating and cooling solutions. We would definitely be going back to them ourselves when the need arises.

Adlan came out and diagnosed our 20 year old A/C system and was able to revive it, but prepared us with options for the future should the system go out again. What bothered me most was that when I questioned them, their explanation kept changing. First it was the compressor, then an "open line," then a high-voltage breaker issue. That is not a diagnosis I can trust, or a diagnosis based in true process of elimination testing to arrive at the core issue. I've been running a restaurant for nearly 20 years, and I've seen this pattern many times before: jump straight to the most expensive repair. In my experience, this felt like either incompetence or an attempt to oversell a job that wasn't needed. I will never use them again, and I strongly recommend getting a second opinion before approving any HVAC work from Next HVAC.

Coastside Technical Services is a local business that has built a good relationship of quality service and support and in my eyes continues to do so. I am a local business owner myself and meet many people in and around the coastal community and often asked for my opinion or advise as to local service businesses. I have built my own business (Hot Tub Service and repair) primarily from word-of-mouth. Finding good quality and dependable service, no matter where you live is often challenging and often disappointing. I make it point to find those "gems" in the service industry and refer them when needed. Jim Holsman, the owner of Coastside Technical Services has more knowledge and experience regarding home and industrial appliance repair and HVAC repair and maintenance, than anyone else I know here in Half Moon Bay. I have been in business here since 2004 and while I am relatively new to the area, have had many of my customers recommend him saying they have used his services for almost 20 years and always received professional quality service. Coastside Tech is a true gem. We've been on the coastside for 10+ years, and they've been fixing us up on many fronts since we discovered them. They have fixed a refrigerator, a furnace, and a washer, and we'd let them fix ANYTHING they would be willing to place their hands on. After paying non-local companies to drive over the hill and charge for the extra time, and tolerate their schedules, Coastside is a DELIGHT. They are here fast, have more reasonable charges, and they are sharper and better than the over-the-hill competitors. As for gas furnace igniter repairs, something about the coastside weather ages them faster, but Coastside was better than the "pros" from over the hill, and ours has been great for years after Coastside's fix. Thanks Coastside for bailing us out . Sometimes it's been after coastside power outages, or in the midst of winter storms, last week it was getting the washer working hours before out of town guests were due to arrive. Just before Christmas, my refrigerator/freezer stopped cooling and garbage disposal seized up. I called Coastside after an online recommendation, and they were able to quickly schedule a visit to diagnose the problems. Derek came out and was terrific - the fridge issue was simple, but required a new part, and the garbage disposal was checked out and reset, Derek ordered the part while he was here, and the office scheduled an installation for the last appointment on Christmas Eve. Derek was back, got the replacement part in, and gave me a quick tutorial on my fridge/freezer (acquired used with out house a few months ago). Derek is really knowledgeable and a great guy to work with. Office staff is really accommodating and friendly. They will be my first call for any household problems in the future! read more

I called Coastside Technical this morning, expecting the usual negotiation about when I could expect a tech to show up to fix my dryer vent. Michelle, their friendly receptionist, said, "How about a half an hour?" Uh, yeah, that'll work. :-) Rodney showed up twenty minutes later. Polite, professional and knowledgeable. (His assistant was great, too, but I did not catch his name.) They went right to work and fixed my dryer vent in twenty minutes. Also educated me about best practices to help ensure it stays working. They cleaned up the work site thoroughly and were done in under a half and hour. I am thrilled. If only other trades professionals were as responsive, efficient and polite. read more

This company had successfully patched my old one together for the last 19 years and save me many $, The new one was installed with efficiency and the company went the extra mile. The owner got my garage door working better and even charged my classic car which was in the way of furnace delivery--all at no extra cost! Such service is so rare in todays world. Our furnace went out just in time for a cold snap. I thought we were going to face a long and miserable weekend at home with sick kids and no heat. But we were fortunate. A friend referred us to Coastside Technical. Steve diagnosed the problem and ordered the part. The next day Jim and Steve came to install the part. More recently I wanted to do another work on my own place and thought of them. Denis the owner called me and let me know that they would need some time to figure out whether the part would fit and once again were honest and said it's probably 2 hours work so he charged per hour which is reasonable. Overall I'd totally consider using them for my plumbing or water heater jobs. One suggestion is that Denis gets busy so probably a better time management with more timely reply would be best but it's understandable and commendable that he's doing good work himself.

Our water heater failed December 22. George Salet Plumbing came out on December 23 and provided us options to fix the existing water heater or replace it. We chose to replace as the existing heater was just over 9 years old. We scheduled replacement for Friday, December 26. The plumber called us to let us know the first heater which was delivered, while still functional, was slightly damaged on the bottom. They had a second one delivered the same day and stayed late to replace it. The high efficiency gas blower made a loud noise while running however George Salet returned with a technician from the manufacturer until the issue was resolved. It took two visits and full replacement of the exhaust stack, but they pursued until the issue was fully resolved to our satisfaction at no extra cost.

Thor's own certified service providers were no better (one declined the brand, the other ghosted). Gold Standard had 259 five-star reviews, so my wife reached out through Yelp on November 20. It took two weeks and a follow-up message (plus a voicemail) before Cristhian responded. He came out on December 8, diagnosed the issue, and quoted us $272.30 + tax for the part and $310 for labor. We paid $85 for the diagnosis and told him to go ahead and order the part. Then, silence. My wife followed up on December 16. No response. Again on December 18, this time saying we'd find someone else if he couldn't commit to a date. He finally replied, saying the part was backordered and wouldn't arrive until mid-to-late January. We said we'd wait. Late January came. My wife followed up again. Cristhian said he'd call the supplier "real quick." A few days later he reported the supplier wasn't answering his calls or emails. He said he'd look into alternatives. My wife followed up again on February 10, offering to source the part herself if he'd just tell her the part number. No response. On February 28, after three months of this, we sent a final message letting him know we were moving on. Cristhian never replied. Summary: we paid $85 for a diagnosis, got a quote that was never acted on, sent roughly ten messages over three months, and received maybe four replies. The part was apparently never procured. His phone always went to voicemail. I'm writing this because the 5-star rating doesn't reflect our experience. Hopefully Cristhian will respond and resolve the issue quickly, and/or refund the $85 diagnosis fee.

Two important events: He no only installed a thermostat for us, he graciously moved it to where I preferred, made sure to check the condition of the furnace, cleanliness, and of the filter, and did an incredible job. Yesterday, the dryer just quit. I couldn't find the circuit panel. Joe told me where it was and how to check which circuit belonged to the dryer. I sent him photos of the circuit breakers. Turns out the dryer electricity circuit was fine, but the dryer was recalled for its start switch, still on warranty.
