Goldberg's Bagels - Chive Cream Cheese on Jalapeño Bagel

These are probably the best bagels in West Hartford, but given the lack of high quality…read morecompetition, that isn't saying too much. Maybe their reputation leads to overly hyped expectations, because my breakfast sandwich was just decent. There's nothing bad about the food, but also nothing too exciting. To be fair, I ordered some straight forward breakfast bagels and haven't yet tried their more unique menu items. The bacon egg and cheese was not very cheesy. Egg and bacon were both good. I asked for chipotle mayo, which as an additional $0.50 add-on, was a half-hearted portion. The bagel itself (went for an everything) was fine. Again, to be fair, I'm a born and raised Montrealer so coming from the home of the best bagels in the world (come at me, New Yorkers) it left something to be desired. But I don't blame Goldberg's for that- as I said, it's probably the best in the area. I also got a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese. I appreciated that my request for well toasted was listened to. The bagel itself had nice flavor, sweet enough without tasting like a dessert. Could have had more raisins in it. The amount of cream cheese was satisfactory, even for my husband. I believe the biggest turn-off about Goldberg's is that you can't just roll out of bed and head over to grab a bite. They suggest you place an order 45min before you want to pick up (this is probably only true on weekends). You can order online, which is helpful, but if you're just trying to cure your hangover with a hearty breakfast, you probably don't have the foresight to plan so far in advance. All in all, I wouldn't give up on them. I don't think the basic breakfast sandwiches are worth recommending to others, but I will be sure to go back and try some of their other more interesting sandwiches. Stay tuned.

Craving a bagel breakfast sandwich and Google sent me here. They did not disappoint. The bagel was…read moreso good. The chocolate chip cookies 4/$3.00 were a winner. Freshly baked that morning and you could tell. FYI. They use real eggs for the sandwiches. This minor detail is very important to me when it comes to breakfast sandwiches. I cannot do premade egg. The guy was super nice Cute little place for a quick bite or take it to go. French vanilla coffee was also on point. Nice and fresh.

The Bagel shop is in a newer developed space along Route 4 (aka busy Farmington Avenue). The odd thing I couldn't get through my head was how the site was designed. The back of the shops face out to Farmington Ave and the store fronts and parking are in the rear? Usually it's the other way around. Terrible advertising for the businesses. Just the same, I managed to stop, ordered two Everything bagels with White Fish spread and a large dark roast coffee. I was met with "...white what...". I repeated and added, "...its Jewish thing, which is delicious on a bagel. " Sorry we don't have that." Hmmm . Well I'll have a thin smear of creamed cheese, which they had plenty, on my two toasted Everything bagels. I prepped my coffee and in a flash the bagels were packaged and bagged. I was given a "have a nice day". Get in my car, unwrapped the First bagel, ahh an Everything. Later the second was unwrapped back a my home office and a Toasted Sesame Seed jumped out at me. No offense Sesame lovers, I was hugely disappointed my simple order got twisted. And to top off my dissatisfaction NO WHITE FISH SPREAD!

They are unrelated. Newington's King Donut is a small, old-school family-run business on Route 176 (Main St. in Newington. If you like traditional New England-style iced and cake donuts, this place should be right in the center of your comfort zone. If you like those expensive crafty arsty-fartsy donuts with Fruity Pebbles, crushed cannoli shells and the like, take your $6 a pop elsewhere. Here, you'll see cookies, muffins, bagels, breakfast sandwiches, and of course.....donuts on their menu. And pray tell, what kind of donuts? Glad you asked, because they have a nice variety of yummy treats including Glazed, Chocolate frosted, Vanilla frosted with sprinkles, Strawberry frosted, three Old fashioneds (plain, glazed, chocolate iced), Jelly filled, Boston cream, Powdered, Cinnamon sugar, Blueberry cake, Chocolate cake, Apple fritters, Cinnamon rolls, Crullers, Maple frosted, Butternut donuts, and filled donut sticks. We picked up an assortment of donuts yesterday, and man oh man did they look and smell great. We split a chocolate iced/custard filled stick last night that was decadently delicious!! PRO TIP It's located on the busy corner of Hartford Avenue and Main Street in a small plaza with plenty of parking. You'll find it across the street from the Eagle's Nest Gas station, which we've found to consistently have some of the lowest gas prices around.

I was heading to a nearby facility and wanted to bring my team a treat so I got 1/2 dozen donuts for $11.50 out the door. The donuts looked amazing. I opted to shove a Boston cream in my face first! The donuts are larger than most other donut shops in the area. The Boston cream was very light and airy and had good flavor, it wasn't at all greasy, my only complaint is there was not a lot of filling. It took me 3 bites to get to the cream filling. The woman at the counter was very pleasant and there is plenty of I parking here too.
