Eight Coffee Bar by UCC opened quietly last month at 8 Rockwell, the newest building in the Rockwell area. At least to me it was quietly because I only saw about it in a random newspaper article. With more choices for coffee, food, and even alcohol, Eight by UCC was ready to take on the ever increasingly competitive food scene in the surrounding area.
The area where the establishment is located is hella nice because of all the glass windows! You get a pretty good view of the lobby and some of the wall art too! Judging folks while people watching is a plus too There's also outdoor seating which I really like unless it's too smoggy or raining hard. As of now there is free parking in the basement as long as you tell the guard where you're headed to.
I picked the Asian steak and eggs which included a single portion of steak, 2 fried eggs, and kimchi fried rice. I thought it was quite pricey for the quality and portion of the steak ,and the fact that I asked for it to cooked medium and it was not. Boo. Fried egg is fried egg, you really should not fuck that up, and I asked for the kimchi fried rice to be replaced with garlic rice because I had a cough at the time. TBH, would not order again.
Mom got an order of crab cakes over rocket. She told me that the crab cakes had a funny smell to it and when I saw her dish, the rocket was not rocket. And when I say rocket, I'm hoping to see a whole bed of arugula. Not lettuce. OMG. I really dislike romaine lettuce (unless it's in a certain soup). With a passion. Please put more arugula next time.
Mom and I decided to split an order of coffee rubber ribs. I was quite full so only had a rib but it was pretty meh. To the ribs's defense, it tasted a lot better when we reheated the leftovers for dinner. PRICEY. $$$ :/
The saving grace for me was the nitro draft cold brew coffee. It was served in a wine glass (nice touch) and drank very smoothly. Would be willing to come back even if it was just for the nitro. Wish I could get another glass but a cough and coffee really don't get along.
On a lighter note, the staff was quite nice and understanding especially with our comments and told us that they would make sure that the management knew. They better tell them though for real read more
