BUYER BEWARE -- Heat went out in the middle of the night, and I could not get my regular HVAC guy…read more Called M&T Mechanical in the morning (8am) and they agreed to come and look at the problem which I believed to be a clogged fuel line. They arrived as indicated and looked at the oil furnace and ended saying that I had a "blown" motor. They'd be back after getting one from Ace Hardware. Got everything working again, which was good. When I got the bill ($700), I was more than surprised at the expense. Later, I checked the Ace Hardware website (and at the store ) which said the motor (Beckett 21805) was listed at $124.99 (Home Depot has it for @$87). I was willing to pay more for the emergency call but to get almost a 300% markup on the motor ($125 marked up to $350) and an oil filter (marked up to $100) is GOUGING. Normal industry rate is 50% markup. So, the long and short of it is: BUYER BEWARE when it comes to M&T Mechanical. You will DEFINITELY pay more than fair market and more likely be scammed by a company that's more interested in a big payoff that will cost consumers. Again, BUYER BEWARE when it comes to M&T Mechanical--it will work but will leave a hole in your pocket and bad taste in your mouth. If desperate for service, call elsewhere.

He wrapped up and moved along... the next day, I was concerned about the pricing and asked a local HVAC distributor about the price on the motor and they priced it at $200.... Seriously? 600 % mark up? Looks at the invoice and realized I was charged for 4 hours... my phone log and cameras show he called when he left his previous job at 3:29pm and left my house at 6:30pm. When I called the office the next day they needed to check on a few things but would call me back. Their response: part was another end model and was therefore more expensive. 6-1/2 times more expensive? I have to admit he did tell me it was expensive. As far as the rake, they informed me that they build door-to-door meaning from when he leaves his last appointment to whenever he either clocks out or goes to his next appointment so I was charging an additional hour for most likely his travel home. Sour grapes? Maybe but do yourself a favor. Get the details of the pricing before you commit to anything.

They found a cracked UV bulb that Hotzople had replaced, my filter area was jacked and should have been fixed a LONG time ago, and I today found an extra tubing coming off my duct in basement that was never capped off, thus rendering my entire system basically non functional -- at least very wasteful..... I cannot believe this has been for 7 years and Hotzople NEVER once checked for any duct work issues, or anything or ran any tests, I was systematically blown off, these guys do they BARE Minimum and ONLY care about collecting their yearly $s for maintenance. I highly suggest everyone EDUCATE yourself about HVAC before hiring ANYONE, these companies anymore have become greedy, they don't care. I was also told I had issues with my old system, but never was 'shown' WHAT those issues were fully. I had to spend ten hours of my own labor sweeping and vacuuming the dust, dirt, and mouse droppings just so the foam would actually adhere to the wood. I also had to explicitly override his instructions to his worker just to ensure my exterior top plates were foamed. Worse yet, Gary looked me in the eye and lied to my face, telling me he personally took care of sealing the main plumbing chase. Because it was about to be buried under R-60 cellulose, he clearly assumed I would never look. Days after they left, I opened my bathroom tub access panel and found the chase completely open to the attic, with brand-new cellulose insulation already leaking down into my walls see before photo All he left was a useless bead of foam on a lower piece of framing that did absolutely nothing to close the actual gap. When I texted him clear photographic proof of this shortcut, he read the messages and completely ghosted me. He got his money and simply did not care.
