Destiny who did my x-rays and cleaning was so nice and gentle. She understood that I was nervous and gave me positive words and reinforcement that I was doing well. This continued with Dr. Brooks as he listened tot my concerns and checked everything out! He said that I was doing well with brushing and flossing and that they will keep an eye on a couple of tight contact areas. When my implant fell out I went to Dr. Gunnell and he did not do any unnecessary work he told me to contact my prior dentist and find out what model of implant I had and that he would order the tool and he would fix it. Since My insurance did not cover this repair he gave me a discounted rate and fixed my implant. He explained how it got loose and said it does happen more frequently than you would think. My teeth were cleaned by his hygienist who also explained why certain areas of my mouth had more plaque than others and recommended a good mouthwash to prevent the build up. She was very knowledgeable and took her time answering all my questions. When my husband got a gum infection he went there and Dr. Gunnell recommended that they try an antibiotic first before doing any more root canals on him. The antibiotic is working and his gums are getting better. I would highly recommend Dr. Gunnell to my family and friends.

I've been coming to Dr. Gunnell's office since 2022, and there's a reason I keep coming back! This visit started with a little insurance adventure. The office texted me a week before my appointment to confirm, and I informed them that I had new dental insurance. I was told I wasn't covered, even though my insurance portal clearly showed that I was. Rather than argue, I decided to do a little investigating myself. I contacted my insurance company and had them call the dental office directly to verify my coverage. Sure enough, I WAS covered! I had even asked the office for a referral elsewhere if my insurance wasn't accepted, but unfortunately, that message was left on read. My advice: If you really like Dr. Gunnell and are told your insurance isn't accepted, don't automatically take that as the final answer. Be proactive! Call your insurance company and have them verify your benefits directly with the office. I'm glad everything was eventually worked out because I genuinely enjoy coming here. However, I do feel the front office could improve its communication and follow-through when it comes to insurance questions. Now, let's talk about the people who keep me coming back! First, a SPECIAL shout-out to my hygienist, Kim! Kim always has the gentlest hands, which I especially appreciate because I have sensitive teeth! Let's face it, nobody looks forward to having their teeth scraped and polished, but Kim makes the experience as comfortable as possible. She takes her time, is mindful of my sensitivity, always shares the BEST advice and tips for keeping my teeth, gums, and mouth healthy and clean between visits. What I appreciate most is that she doesn't just clean my teeth and send me on my way. She genuinely cares about educating her patients and helping us maintain good oral hygiene. Kim, thank you for making my six-month visits something I don't have to dread! You're definitely one of the reasons I keep coming back! And then there's Dr. G! One thing I appreciate about Dr. Gunnell is that he attended one of California's best dental schools (USC)! I also like that he stays current with the latest advancements in dentistry. He's knowledgeable, thorough, and makes those twice-a-year checkups quick and easy. I'm also pretty sure I'm his FAVORITE kind of patient! No cavities, no major dental work, just a quick and easy checkup! That's exactly how I plan to keep it! Now, I have to give a little credit to my secret weapon: my Philips Sonicare electric toothbrush! Yes, I'm giving my toothbrush a shout-out in a dental review! You can find Sonicare toothbrushes at Costco, Best Buy, or Target. Mine alerts me when I'm brushing too hard and offers different cleaning settings, including whitening & extra cleaning. Is it an investment? Absolutely! But I'd much rather invest in a quality toothbrush than spend money fixing cavities or dealing with receding gums down the road. Combine that with flossing, regular cleanings, and Kim's helpful advice, I'd say it's a pretty good recipe for keeping my smile healthy! Overall, I'm happy to continue trusting Dr. Gunnell and Kim with my dental care. While the insurance communication could definitely use some improvement, the actual dental care has kept me coming back since 2022. However, they aren't the kind of dentist office you see on TV where they have any amenities (no headphones, cutesy stuff). This is bare bones in my opinion. I had some work done (emergency type) and they did good. Saw me for follow up, but because oral surgeon not there very much I had to drive to other locations for that. My main complaint is these types of dental or eye or cosmetic procedure type establishments is that they feel VERY sell-y, with staff whose only job or is is toget you to commit $$ or open credit accounts so they can commit you to things and amounts you may not be interested in. Be cautious with your wallet here and know that if you tell them it's not in your current budget they'll pressure you like you went to a timeshare pitch in a Vegas hotel.

I know dentistry as my mother did dental hygiene for 45 years and I was an assistant 30 years ago. That being said I had beautiful teeth but due to an illness my teeth literally were breaking daily starting 5 years ago. I was scared and embarrassed I thought I would never need dentures. It took me over a year to go in but I finally got the courage this September. Trying to make this review not so long, I had my initial appointment and the dentist I saw had the personality of a mop. I felt rushed with questions, he was rude and frankly made me more worried about everything instead of feeling more relaxed. My next appt was Oct 4 with the surgeon to remove 15 teeth! And do bone graphs so the dentures would fit right cause the dentist I saw in September says if I didn't get bone graphs my bottom dentures wouldn't fit right and would move when I talked, ate etc. That freaked me out so I said I wanted the bone graphs. That same dentist said it would take only 2 days to get the temporary dentures so I wouldn't I wouldn't look toothless which embarrassed me terribly. I cried and said I was scared and so embarrassed of that. The day of surgery was the first time meeting the surgeon and he did the surgery while I was under anesthesia. It seemed to go well considering. I had a lot of swelling, bruising, black eyes and pain but it wasn't that bad. Nobody from the office called at all to see how I was like I was taught in dental school, like other offices do. They didn't care at all. I couldn't even get in to see the surgeon again for him to look at everything until Nov 15, over a month later. I still have not received my temp dentures and nobody had any info. I finally tracked down the office mng who is there only once a week! She promised it would be done within 2 weeks by the best lab they used. The girl there told me the reason the temp dentures weren't ready was the info was never even sent to the lab in September to get done! Back to the 15 of Nov, today is Dec 11 and still nothing , no temp teeth or permanent for that matter and I can't reach anyone! And to make it even worse the bone graphs weren't done that we paid out of pocket for and still have not been reimbursed. Therefore, I was charged $7,000 through my insurance provider, then charged an additional $2,500 as an "out-of-pocket" expense. My friends and neighbors have also noticed billing anomalies. When they challenged the accountant about the issue, they were phoned by the dentist and assured that their "overpayment" would be accordingly refunded. Thankfully, the money was returned. They then received a letter from Agave Dental to the tune of "we no longer want to have a client-patient relationship with you". Once I obtained HSA coverage and scheduled a follow-up appointment specifically to have the X-rays done and be properly evaluated for surgery, my appointment was canceled by the surgeon. I was told he considered the prior visit a completed consult and that he did not feel seeing me again would make a difference. As a result, I was effectively dismissed as a patient without ever receiving the diagnostic imaging or evaluation needed to determine surgical options. This felt unprofessional and left me without care after I had made arrangements to move forward. I would not recommend this practice if you need flexibility or thorough evaluation before surgery.
