I had heard a lot of hype of national recognition so I was expecting every lick to be creamy richness. I can't say that was the experience. This scoop had lots of ice crystals, which made it noticeably less smooth and creamy than good ice cream should be. I was expecting a rich, velvety texture with a balanced bourbon and pecan flavor, but this scoop fell short of those expectations. I'm not sure whether the powerful bourbon flavor was specific to this batch or the texture related to storage, but the ice crystals really detracted from the experience. Overall, this flavor didn't meet my expectations for a gourmet ice cream shop. I would be willing to try another flavor, because like I've said before: any day with ice cream is a good day.

The process of making this ice cream is explained in other Yelp reviews and there are YouTube videos out there that show the process. This place did not disappoint and the ice-cream was very comparable to the one in Chicago. It's hard to explain what makes it so good, but it just tastes fresh and creamy in a way that's different from regular ice cream. In addition, there are many potential ways to customize it. Just select a base (original = vanilla, matcha = green tea or latte), add whatever flavors you like and then the crew goes to work and the ice-cream is literally made before your eyes. For example, you could do: - original base + fresh strawberries = strawberry ice cream - original base + chocolate syrup = chocolate ice cream, etc. I had the matcha base + banana + graham cracker and liked it a lot.
