Recently, a friend with a newly acquired print in need of framing asked me where I'd had a some…read morepaintings framed. I told him I'd gone to Calhoun Beach Framing. At the time they were near 50th and Penn in South Minneapolis. They've since moved to their current location on Lake Street. From the Web site, it appears that despite the relocation the business is under the same ownership/management. As such, I highly endorse their craftsmanship and expertise. In particular, I brought to them a couple of large oil paintings on raw canvas acquired at an open art fair. They had been rolled up and were a bit frayed around the edges. Despite the less than pristine condition, the works themselves were striking and needed just the right frames to make them really pop. I couldn't be happier with what they suggested and the work performed. In each case, the canvas was properly stretched and mounted with stunning results. The custom frames were not inexpensive. However, given that the paintings were purchased for a song and after framing were near-museum worthy I was more than pleased. I also brought in a few works that my son and daughter had made over the years in art classes. They were painted on medium quality art paper and were somewhat fragile. For each I chose simple metal frames with non-glare glass. I was very happy with the matting and mounting at comparatively modest expense. I was surprised to see that thus far CBF had received no Yelp reviews. I'm glad to be the first. I hope others with similarly favorable opinions will follow.

I resisted going wedding dress shopping as it's not my thing. I heard about Bride and Jewel from a…read morefamily friend and figured since it was far enough from the cities, I would give it a whirl. I winged a weekend call to the shop without a reservation as my sister had agreed to go with. To my surprise, there was 1 opening that fit my schedule. Kris was my bridal assistant and was glorious!! Kris made me feel at ease, calmed my nerves, let me comb through all the dresses, was extremely personable, considerate, and helped me get into all the dresses. As this was my first ever wedding dress shopping experience for myself, a few emotional tears were shed. Eventually I got to meet the owner, Brooke, who was just as helpful as Kris and knew a lot about the dress brands and how to style them. While I didn't end up purchasing, I can totally recommend Bride and Jewel as they take such pride in their work. In addition, the shop also sells prom dresses which is pretty niche to find. Comparing this shop to one other, I can say the value is aligned to others. Check them out!

The bridal section looked extremely beautiful as well. The pricing for the prom dresses were extremely reasonable- I had to get mine shipped in and the shipping cost wasn't terrible at all either. If I could rate this place a 10 I absolutely would.

On Sunday, we had to drive several hours (~3) round trip to babysit our son so we could attend the…read moreblacksmithing class. We arrived about 10 minutes early, but there was nobody at the shop. We knocked on the door, tried calling, and walked around the building to see if there was someone there. After 25 minutes, we finally decided to leave. We later received an automated email explaining that their "auto-reminders did not go out to you and to our instructor as they were supposed to." At the bottom of the email, it gave me the option to unsubscribe from their emails. For a class that costs nearly $90 per person, I would expect a higher degree of professionalism. All of the class attendees were responsible enough to show up, without auto-reminders. There is no excuse for the instructor forgetting! The refund they issued did not cover the cost or inconvenience of babysitting services. Their automated email that I could unsubscribe was unprofessional and felt like they were making excuses. The customer service was awful and I would never recommend that anyone goes there.
