The piece took a couple weeks, as I advised there was no rush. Doug upgraded my glass to museum quality to thank me for waiting. And now a review of the space, because like the photos, this place is that cool and now, I have a better understanding of what it's all about, sort of. So the place has been open for about 5.5 months. A warm inviting storefront with the inside filled with local artist inspirations. Prices range from the Wow! That will look kick ass in my place (for the most frugal shopper) to Wow! That will look kick ass in my place! (for the person with some deep, pockets). Everything that's sold are one-of-a-kind pieces and are quite amazing. From paper mache' sculptures (definitely worth checking out) , New Zealand reclaimed wood tables, low temp fired ceramics, paintings with prices all over the spectrum and of course, photography and more. The cool thing though is that with the gallery owner, Nance, has space in the back which could be used for other events besides showings. Not big events, but smaller ones and obviously you would need to talk to her about what your trying to do but she came off as pretty cool and open to ideas. Nance has history of doing things in the city around the arts scene and if you've been to Macy's for their holiday display, you've seen her work. This part of West 7th (3-4 block area?) is really starting to pop and one could park in the middle and walk around, eat, drink, and shop their way to the different businesses and this place, is definitely worth a stop.

They've got an ever-changing collection or art, seemingly from local artists. With room for all types of hanging art, and larger pieces in the center of the room, the A|Z Gallery looks like it would be a great party atmosphere to host openings. I've never been, and frankly don't know if they do that, but the location looks fit for it. Parking is hit or miss; not many street options now with the surrounding roads dug up for the Central Corridor project, but you can take advantage of the Farmers Market lot (if not already occupied) or the Tilsner lot itself. I honestly don't know if you have to pay for those two...but I've never been towed.

AZ Gallery was holding an event - A Midwinter's Dream - that featured local women artists and their various crafts. Everything was represented there from homemade candles and perfume to photography, shadowboxes, and jewelry. To be honest, much of the reason we went was to support a couple of friends at the show. Wandering around the space was easy and fun - I had a great time talking to each artist, some were members of the gallery, others were guests of the gallery. And the members of the gallery were super nice too. The gallery did a great job of laying out the space so that it didn't feel too crowded either. I can't tell you much more about the gallery, hours, trivia, or anything else really useful. But, if you see another event of theirs pop up, be sure to check it out! They do know how to host a nice party and they have some great artists.

She literally stole $10 from me at the register. This was the most insane experience I've ever had…read morein my life. I just walked in looked around and bought a little Joe Mauer baseball and sticker... The blonde woman working at the counter who I have to assume is the owner from how crazy terrible she treated me... Didn't say a word to me until I went to check out. She then proceeded to charge me $5 for the sticker from the store. $7 and 30 cents or something total. I was like weird, okay. I said I don't have any ones on me. I only have a 50. She said "I can break it", I then said i have change so you can give me back whole bills. Then things turned really weird... She says "we don't play change games" I said you can keep the change, I just want the dollars back. Then she says " I already counted it out" and made some other snarky remark to me under her breath. And I was so taken aback I didn't know what was going on. She then hands me back $32 and change. And I grabbed it saying nothing super mad, and walked out. My change should have been 42 and change. She literally stole $10 from me. As I was pulling off I realized it turned around and walked back up to the store. She has locked the door and it has a sign on it that says I'll be back in 5 minutes... But she's in her car driving around the block. I go to wait in my car and she pulls in behind me... I get out and say are you the lady that owns this store? And she puts down her weed pipe just long enough to pull away from me. I don't know what universe I'm in right now but this is the weirdest retail experience I've ever had in my life. I think maybe the weed pipe had something stronger in it. What? The? F*-+$?

Someone reminded me of this newish gallery that I had heard about but hadn't been to yet. Thank goodness for this place! They have art and crafts made by local Southeast Asian artists that you can buy in the spot. I bought some lovely drawings by Tori Hong for just $30 each. They also have a good stationary selection. I got some thank you cards that say "thank you" in Hmong! I saw aprons with Hmong designs, cute pillows, stickers, mug coasters and more. The space felt airy like a gallery and the folks running the store were super friendly. Do you need gifts for friends, family, or coworkers?
