And the BEST lines - Laura Mercier, SkinCeuticals, Tocca, Darphin, Sarah Happ, Julie Hewett and more. They even have Jack Black, so I can grab my husband his favorite lip balm (which distracts him from asking what else I bought). I make a point to support small businesses like this one and head over to New Canaan every now and then to replace a choice product - usually finding something new every time. Going back a few years, I can say my experience has always been positive. Until recently. In my opinion, the shopping experience is even more important than what ends up in your bag. I left the Cosmetic Boutique the other day knowing that I will never go back as long as I see one saleswoman behind the counter. Just because I'm open to new products and in the mood to shop doesn't give someone permission to criticize my beauty regimen and insist that I buy an array of pricey items. I always appreciate recommendations, but the difference between "You definitely need this!" and "Is this something you would be interested in?" is huge in my book. So despite the fact that I'm a fan of the store itself, it's getting two stars because they think it's okay to pile $200 worth of items at the counter and only question how you'd like to pay for it. Lady, I'll take the eye cream you recommended and the concealer I came in for - but you can keep the rest of the stuff AND that snotty look you're giving me.

The five-star rating is specifically for Mallory. I have been coming here for years and always see…read moreMallory. She does a great job every time and is so friendly and personable. I have tried several other places for waxing (including the Benefit in Westport) and Mallory is the only one who I've kept coming back to. I have social anxiety and I usually hate having any beauty services done (haircuts, manicures, etc) but I actually look forward to seeing Mallory. The manager (I assume that's who she is because she presents as having authority) is always very rude. I have never had a positive interaction with her. During your birthday week you can receive a free brow wax, so I took advantage of that and also got a brow tint (knowing I would have to pay for the extra service). The manager told me several times that only the brow wax was covered and I have to pay for the tint and tip on the whole amount. I already knew all of that and did not appreciate her treating me like that, she was practically berating me. She has such a negative attitude and is so unpleasant to be around. I continue to put up with her though just for Mallory. The atmosphere in the boutique is also uncomfortable sometimes. I only come there for waxing services, although they do carry the full line of Benefit products. I do love Benefit but it is cheaper for me to buy their products at other stores where I can earn rewards or use coupons. But whenever you are there, especially if you are waiting for your appointment, employees will follow you around and push products on you trying to make a sale. After you get waxed they will ask if you want some aloe and I always say no (even though I would like some) because I don't want them to pitch any products. I understand they must have sales goals to meet but it is very off putting. Overall, it is worth it to come here for Mallory.

The technician was the same who did the massage so it made it easier to tip in one lump sum at the end. For everyone complaining they had to tip off the original price and not the Groupon- DUH. Otherwise you're just rude and nobody has time for that. The salon was very clean, any flaws pictured in reviews, those were purposeful flaws in the tile and not dirt. As far as the dogs running around- this was probably my favorite part. They were so friendly and loving! One practically sat in my lap so I could love on it! Totally be back

Update: 48 hours later and still in pain from my "massage"…read more I bought a $65 Groupon for a spa pedicure and 60 minute massage. First off, the pedicure was absolutely amazing. There was a mask, scrub, different serums and lotions. Unfortunately, that was the only thing I enjoyed. 1. I walked in for a 2pm appt and just waited in silence for 15 minutes with no explanation until someone came out to direct me to a pedicure chair. 2. I asked for a medium massage - it felt like she was trying to squeeze out my internal organs. She didn't speak English so I couldn't even explain that I was in pain. I literally bit the pillow of the head rest to get through it. 3. You have to pay tip on the original price, not the Groupon price. So I literally paid half of what I spent on the Groupon on the tip. And the tip is mandatory. Like they ask for it as soon as your services are done. Made me feel really uncomfortable. 4. Not a sterile environment. The technicians are constantly cleaning their hands but the floor was dirty and there was a dog running around! TL;DR: Only go for pedicures and make sure you have no plans that day.
