A friend highly recommended Eggstasy to us during a short stay we had in the Scottsdale area. Sadly, our breakfast experience was not a stellar. It is true that I am somewhat particular about restaurant service as my mom was a chef. However, I will tell you what happened and what did not happen and let you decide if I am being too critical. We arrived a cute, well-lit, clean establishment and was greeted by friendly staff. However, when we were seated right by the door where we could hear the traffic noise, I asked if we could move. Most tables inside were available. The hostess said there was only this table and the one next to it available. As we sat there, the restaurant began to fill up with other patrons who were seated at many other tables across the room from us and well away from the door. We thought about leaving but ended up staying since our friend had raved about the food.
The waitress introduced herself nicely. Then she took our drink order and brought water. Now, I know a lot of the reviewers love the cucumber in the water, but I did not like the taste at all and asked for plain water. The waitress brought a bottle of water and no glasses. We had to pour the water from our glasses into the first bottle with the cucumber, which we could do because she left the bottle at our table. My husband's crepes and hash browns were okay. He had ordered a small tomato juice and I ordered a small pomegranate/strawberry juice. The waitress brought the drinks in plastic cups with covers (like to go drinks) and straws. The pomegranate juice was great. The tomato juice was sooooo hot my husband could not drink it. A woman, who we assumed is the owner, came to our table and saw the plastic cups and asked if had requested our drinks be in plastic cups. We said that we had not ordered the drinks in plastic cups. She was clearly upset because she said that they do not use plastic cups to serve drinks in to people actually eating at the restaurant. That was really not a problem. She then replaced my husband's tomato juice with a glass full of juice that was excellent.
I ordered a veggie omelet with no onions and asked to replace the broccoli with spinach, which the waitress said they could do--no problem. My meal came with pancakes. The pancakes were probably okay for most people but I did not like them, which was okay because I don't usually eat pancakes. When my omelet came, it was perfectly cooked and was super tasty BUT...it had onions in it. I told the waitress and she said she was sorry and went off to bring me another omelet. In less than 3 minutes she was back with an "omelet." It did not contain onions but it was not cooked through. Since I know a person can get very sick from undercooked eggs, I did not eat the omelet. We ate breakfast out because we had such a long day planned, and did not want to stop for lunch. Needless to say, I was hungry until we ate at 6 p.m. this evening.
The waitress was not exceptional. She did not have any ideas as to how to solve the problem except to offer something to go. I declined her offer. I actually did not feel very well taken care of by the proprietor. I explained everything to the manager. He said he was sorry and that next time I come in, hopefully, things would go better for me. Really? He asked me if we live here and I said no--which, I think, is why the restaurant did not offer even a coupon for a percentage off a meal, or 2 for the price of one, or a gratis meal next time I visit. Times have changed when a patron leaves a restaurant hungry, don't you agree?
Sorry to have had to write this, but I think Eggstasy should do better. read more
