Growing up we had Egg Roll Kitchen about once or twice a month. I remember the food being good. I hadn't been here in years, but decided to try for lunch. There was only one person when I entered and was able to place my order right away. I ordered my usual #4 (dry fried ribs, sweet n sour pork, and shrimp fried rice, but I got chicken as a substitute because I don't like shrimp). The total was $14.25 including the extra $2 for the substitution. The wait was about 20 mins. The food is the same as I remember (good), but the meat portion was a little skimpy. You'll have to ask for extra napkins because they're a little stingy with the napkins. read more

Egg Roll Kitchen is right across from the notorious Chico's Liquor, smack dab in the heart of the hood. Walking in, you're immediately hit with signs laying down the law: no paying with all change, no sneaky business with orders, and you get one sauce per item unless you're ready to part with 25 cents per extra shrimp. Rules and regulations galore. The decor? yeah this isn't my usual spot, but my dad swears by their house chow mein, so I had to give it a shot. I ordered double meat, threw in an extra four bucks for it, and when I opened the box, it looked like the meat decided to take the day off. Seriously, check out the pics--barely a sliver of meat on top. But after a few forks down, there was some. Honestly, it was super greasy and salty. Not my type of thing, but I could see the appeal if I was drunk, car-less, and had to walk here from Eastmont Mall. From that perspective, this would be a glorious find. But if you have a car, just drive anywhere else. If you actually from this area, you've definitely seen the chef in his apron, smoking a cigarette out the side door before, tell me Im lying. Egg Roll Kitchen has been here for literally decades. had the food here a while back (decade or 2 or 3). nostalgia brought me back. sadly, it may have been an off day or the head chef wasn't in or he was the guy sweeping the floors. offerings: fried items, chow mein, chop suey, egg rolls, burgers?, fried rice, appetizers, combos, etc. very limited menu eats: beef chow mein (9 tax included) -sad greasy, chewy noodles with a few pieces of sliced beef, celery, bean sprout, onions, etc. portion size the usual, slightly salty, no other flavors. -thts is the lst chinese take out for awhile, maybe this year. in house for lunch yes in contra costa? 3.5 stars good value but da food wasn't good today. take outs: -little legal parking in area. -panda express does chinese food better but i wouldn't recommend going there. This place looked hella suspect but my friend said it was the best Chinese food in the bay so why not. Parking was tough, and the area looked rough. I kept having to look over my shoulder but it's all good. There was a good amount of people coming in and out so that was a good sign. You order from the window, and they have these old school menus with the lettering you pin on a bulletin board, I have not seen this since elementary school. I ordered the dry fried ribs, fried prawns and fried rice. Hella bomb! Dry Fried Ribs were crispy, but super tender inside. The fried prawns were massive and paired perfectly with sweet and sour sauce. The fried rice was ok, it was just rice to me. I recommend coming here in the middle of the week during the day. This place is definitely an oldie but goodie! I had not been here in a really long time, but decided to go for lunch one day and got something really simple. I really appreciated being able to order everything over the phone and having it ready when I got there. Just walked right up gave them. My order number paid in cash was able to go. The food was just as tasty as I remembered. It's one of those spots that if you're not familiar with it, you might be a little skeptical to go in but trust me it's worth it. Usually we go next door to Szechuan kitchen but they were closed due to being out of the country. My husband and I decided to give this place a try! The service was excellent, they were very friendly! The prices were cheap and affordable. We order the number 1 combination comes with pork fried rice and 6 fried ribs. The food was absolutely delicious! I'm so disappointed in the low quality food, the photo speaks for itself, but I will explain, pork meat should not be brown, it's brown because it's old! I would feel so guilty feeding this to anyone, but they have no shame, they are not sanitary as I saw a man get up from his seat, did not wash his hands,also their were flies in the restaurant and the "pre-fried" fried rice was "uncovered" as it sat their in the open free for anything to land on it., and although the pre fried rice was already fried sitting in an open container, he grabbed about 1 cup of oil(and I bet it's not a heart healthy oil), and he grabbed the pre fried rice and put it together and they BARELY PUT ANY EGGS OR ONIONS IN IT which is so frustrating as you are fishing around for it, they also had the nerve not to cook my dried fried ri s fresh, they were between cold and lukewarm in temperature, but I can tell those would have been good had they been cooked fresh, i was so hungry that i still attempted to eat the food and after a few bites i threw it all in the garbage...i guess that must be why they only accept cash as they dont want you to dispute the charge on your credit card. Egg roll Kitchen is consistently, tasty inexpensive Chinese Food. My favorite neighborhood spot, although not my neighborhood. Mr., in the kitchen takes your phone orders and prepares the food along with a few other staff members. He is always, extra happy over the phone. The little lady who rings up the orders is sweet. FAVE SPOT ! Ok, so I decided to ride out to Oaktown for some food today. I love this little place like it's a hole in the wall but the food is soo good. I forgot about the parking situation. There is very limited street parking if you park in the front of the business it's difficult to get out. It's a steady flow of traffic driving up the street that could prolong you getting out. Egg roll kitchen is just on the corner if you can park on the side of the business it's a lot easier to hit the freeway when you depart. Not only did I forget about the parking I forgot to BRING CASH! I ended up having to drive around searching for an atm that I did not find. I luckily finally located an atm inside a gas station, yaaaasss. When I find food I like I stick to those items but today I decided to try their house fried rice (shrimp, chicken, beef) it's not going on my fave list (sawrry). It was salty, crunchy and the meat was a bit weird looking (maybe leftovers). I ordered the dry fried ribs which is why I drove to Oakland to enjoy. Oh my gosh these little nuggets of goodness are sooooo dang good. You will not find anywhere else to compare nor compete with egg roll kitchen on this one. If you do lemme know !!!! They are fried but also soft and chewy with a lot of flavor. I barely made it home with the goodies I couldn't stop digging in the bag on my drive back. I love this place. Anyone who is reading this review might be thinking "what is a dry fried rib" I can't explain it GO TRY THEM! You might like them it's their most ordered item.
