I have been a patient of Dr Alvarez for many a year (as well as my family) so I am clearly biased. Two weeks ago was my regular cleaning, which I prefer to do at least three times a year. It had been a while since my last set of x-rays, so it was suggested to take a new set of the rear teeth. I really don't like to take any radiation and generally look to defer this unless I feel there is an issue. Dr. Alvarez understood, but explained that there is a new technique for examination that doesn't require x-rays and in fact is more reliable in detection of issues. I agreed to this exam and sure enough there was a small cavity in between my rear tooth that would not be seen without imaging. So now I am even more impressed that the cutting edge technology is allowing me to deal with an issue that would have only gotten worse with time. Fast forward to my current visit to deal with the cavity. To be clear, I do not like the process of drilling on my teeth. But it was such a non-event in the methodology performed by Dr. Alvarez. The slight pinch of the Novocain injection was the extent of the discomfort. Dr. Alvarez volunteered to give me a visual of the cavity area once he opened it up prior to filling. This allowed me to see what the infrared technology had uncovered. Really quite incredible. Post Visit remarks: My short visit to fill the cavity required no additional pain relief and I was able to see business clients within a half hour of the appointment ending. I visited Dr. Alvarez for the first time to get my cleaning done, and to answer a few of my questions about a root canal I did few years ago by another doctor, along with why I experience pain from time to time on some of my teeth. X-rays taken showed decay on few of my teeth, which I had done only a little while ago. It was very upsetting to find out how my previous dentist placed a filling over the old cavity, that he decided not to remove fully. Now that explained why I was feeling the pain. I also needed to change my crown on my root canal, which Dr Alvarez explained had an opening which allowed more decay into it. It also became clear to me why my gum would bleed often. I am very afraid the needles, but Dr. Alvarez made me feel so comfortable, and let the topical sit for awhile. It was painless. I was so surprised by my whole visit, how professional and intelligent the doctor is with sharing his knowledge, and due to this I was able to avoid many future problems with my teeth, not to mention the doctor was able to get my all work done in one day. Dr. Alvarez and his staff are incredible! I went in for, first, a consultation for which there was no sales talk or trying to get me to undergo any unnecessary procedures like what happens at many other dentist offices. Dr Alvarez was professional and nice and helped to come up with a good plan for the work I wanted done and at the end of the visit, quoted me for the procedures, signed the price quote and let me think about it for a couple days. It didn't take me long to decide to make the appointments because I was so impressed with the professionalism I experienced during the consultation. I then went in for the teeth bleaching which I was nervous about because of a painful experience last time I had my teeth whitened; however, the equipment used in this office was much quicker and 100 times less painful! My next appointment was for bonding on two teeth which really made a big difference in my smile and I am so happy with the work! When the bonding on the chip on my front tooth came off for the third time, I started looking into veneers. Scared of looking artificial, having horse teeth and not wanting to deal with down-time, I held off until I found Dr. Alvarez. He designs the veneers right in front of you, prints them in his 3-D printer, and sends you off the same day with a beautiful, natural looking smile. As per his recommendation, I had my four front teeth done, and I've never smiled in more photos in my life. Dr. Alvarez is honest and laid back, never for a moment giving you the feeling that he is upselling or playing up to your insecurities to make more money. If you need an dental snoring device this is the doctor to see. The self molding ones that you can purchase on line do not work for long. The material is too soft and they won't continue to hold your teeth in place. I was using custom snoring devices for over 15 years. When the appliance I had wore out I called the specialist who I'd been using. He is top in the filed with office locations in Manhattan and Long Island. I was told that I'd need to pay a "New Patient intake fee" of $650. Over the years I'd already been in for two consultations and purchased two devices. That's when I start looking for another dentist who specializes in this. I'm so glad that I found Edward Alvarez. There was no new patient fee and the device is working perfectly.
