Crafting station

What a great experience! Love the interiors. The facade was an easy-to-overlook door along the busy EDSA. Stepping inside, you'd first see their brewing/crafting station. Upstairs was a large space with the bar and kitchen and the tables. We went in the afternoon so we had the huge vintage couch to ourselves. They had the hipster magazines like Monocle and cute random paper mâché figurines. Instagram-worthy especially in daylight. The Food: - Had the Dark Matter - Iced Latte. It was perfect--bitter but easily toned down with the syrup. Coffee was really strong but I still enjoyed it. - We also ordered their chocolate croissant. Nice soft breading but the chocolate filling wasn't anything memorable. - Also tried their Binagoongan Chicken Wings--the bomb. We should've ordered rice with it! Can't wait to go back.

I am a coffee lover and I get very picky with what I drink during the day! I was really glad to hear about the EDSA Beverage Design Group because they make really good coffee. And I mean REALLY GOOD. My shot of espresso tasted like they prepared it with TLC. With my coffee was a card containing information on a lot of things with the beans they used. These guys really take their coffee seriously. We were about to order coffee and i was surprised to find that they also offered other drinks like ones with alcohol. It was good that they really had variety for the customers. That day I decided to go with their Dark Matter Theory because I really like the berry and chocolate taste. Its aroma and flavor were both really good and I new my day was set. My friend and I were very hyper after drinking the shot of espresso we ordered but we had no regrets. It tasted awesome! The place looked really hip and cool. The design was very industrial. They had a lot of wooden and metal accents which I think really fit the brand because the place looked like a Science Lab minus most the Periodic Table chemicals. It really looked like a beverage lab factory. It was really cool. You guys should totally check it out!

I have to admit something that might just be blasphemy for a lot of my friends: I do not like coffee. It's just not my palette's cup of tea (or coffee). I don't like the bitterness, the flavor, and all that shebang. BUT I felt like I just had to visit EDSA Beverage Design Group. There was just so much buzz, and it wasn't just popular buzz, it was legitimate buzz from people I trust when it comes to restaurants and food. Plus, I saw pictures all over the internet and the place just looked amazing, artsy, and something else entirely. I have to say that I've never been to a coffee shop like EDSA BDG and I guess that's why they call themselves a Beverage Design Group than just a plain ol' coffee shop. It's basically heaven for coffee loves, and my coffee lover friend would adamantly agree with me. First floor is like a coffee laboratory, where all of the experimentation happens. Second floor has a part that sells coffee equipment, there are meeting rooms, there are workshop rooms, and of course the main serving area. They have the friendliest baristas over there, and even me who doesn't know much about coffee learned a lot just from one conversation with the barista. I might not be a coffee fan, but I can appreciate a good concept when I see one.

I went to this place full of hopes. Yeah it's a cool place, they have a microbrewery with a bar downstairs and if you walk up the industrial steps they have a nice bar with comfy tables. I like their style and the fact that everything is open and transparent. They ran out of a lot of items. They didn't have a single beer they could serve us and a lot of food items were unavailable. Garlic chips were super garlicky so that tasted awesome hehe the fried chickpeas were a lot more unhealthy but taste good. Spagetti was done pretty ok. The cocktails were weak and not well balanced. They also do the curator.. better place to visit. This place is very A-OK. Plus they need to update their website with a map.. that would be helpful.

The set-up and the vibe of this beverage bar is pretty cool. It's an industrial-type place with a micro-brewery at the bottom floor. The top floor has a coworking space, bar, coffee workshop room, and loads of tables. The bartender, Ricky, is super friendly and accommodating. However, when we were there, they didn't have any beers (how could that be it's a brewery!) and they also didn't serve any wines. The cocktails can be ordered pre-mixed as well as bespoke. The bespoke drinks are about 450 and are quite pricey. The pre-mixed cocktails are decent but I'm really not a fan of pre-mixed cocktails, especially when you're paying 300 a pop! The food is decent. But not fantastic. And I didn't get around to trying the coffees. Something for next time!

It was really funny to see my mom's reaction when I told her I was going to head to EDSA to get some coffee! "Yup, right on EDSA!" I've always seen EDSA BDG on my way to Makati from QC but never got the chance to drop by until just last Sunday. I was pretty excited because of all the things I've heard about it and it met all my expectations and then some! From EDSA, the store calls zero attention to itself (which probably adds to the "exclusive" feel of it). You enter to what seems to be a factory or a lab of drinks, machines, and supplies, then a staircase welcomes you upstairs. All this time, I thought it was a coffee shop but I was pleasantly surprised to see they had other drinks (with alcohol!). My sister, her friends and I sat down and ordered merienda and some drinks (everyone ordered something different). I asked for an iced coffee, but as I was going around the bar to take a few photos I saw a... BOTTLED MOJITO!! Although I already hit my alcohol quota for the weekend I knew I HAD to order it. I found it quite genius that they bottled their cocktails and would definitely come back for more of this (or a cup of coffee!). It's a great place to be alone with a book or for a night cap with friends!

My friends ordered Iced Mocha, Iced Black, Cold Brew, Strawberry Frappe and Ube cake. As for me and my posh friend, I ordered Sumatra while he ordered Civet coffee. Love the beans that they are using even for their regular coffee drinks. But let me describe my order. I love Sumatra because it is not that bold and not that bitter. It's a little sweet, a bit acidic and fruity in flavor. So if you are in San Juan area and looking for a different cafe or different drink of coffee, checkout Backyard Coffee and try their single origin coffee beans.

I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. Located above the Rustan's Supermarket on P. Guevarra, the café is quiet compared to the busy street below and gets tons of natural light from the building's all-glass facade. Great plus for me as it made the place have a very airy feel which went great with the painted concrete floors and industrial seating. The coffee was great too! I got their cold-brew coffee and it was a solid cup of cold-brew. Nothing out of the ordinary but it wasn't offensive. The price was great though! At least 30 pesos less than a comparable brew from one of the third wave stalwarts. They also have a lot of differently sourced beans to choose from, with even a Filipino Benguet option! So even though it might not have same pretentious or hipster vibes that we have come to expect from many of the other third wave purveyors here in Manila, I love how laidback this place is. You can definitely get a lot done here. Cash only!! There are ATMs downstairs though if you're in a pickle.

We ordered Tournedo Rossini in Madeira Sauce: Seems they didn't know how to thaw meat properly - the steak is very dry and with no flavor this can only happen if the meat is thawed submerged in water (yuck!!) The steak is unseasoned (take note, it's UNSEASONED NOT UNDERSEASONED!!) and has a bitter taste to it - you can taste the bitterness of the unclean pan where they were cooked (yuck!) The madeira sauce, looks and tastes like gravy! so sweet and has no madeira flavor into it. They should have called it Tournedo Rossini with Chicken Gravy!! The tenderloin is improperly butchered! it looks like a little kid sliced into it before it was cooked! They shouldn't have asked for steak doneness if they can't do it properly! We ordered 5 rossinis, 4 medium and 1 well done - Lo and behold, all our steaks are Well done, very dry, with a yucky flavor!! Where does Cafe Ysabel find their cooks? I can't call them chefs since it would be a disgrace to professional chefs when they can't cook a simple steak properly!! We also ordered pasta, they were served COLD!! WTF! We were there for more than 30 minutes before we were given the bread with the balsamic vinaigrette - and take note they wouldn't have given it if I did not demanded for it 5 times!! The appetizer was served after 1 hour!!! Considering we just ordered a serving of gambas (though tasty, i think it was tasty because we were STARVING by the time it was serverd) - and as always - THE FOOD WAS SERVED COLD!!! WTF!!! After an hour and a half, the pasta that we ordered was finally served COLD!! it was underseasoned ( I think they ran out of salt in their kitchen). We ordered the Prawns thermidor - OMG! It was so pricey at 600+ for 3pcs of medium sized prawns!! Yes, it's still underseasoned. We paid all in all 12,000 pesos for a very unappetizing, disappointing, waste of money meal here. The steaks were so bad, we did not finish any of them - SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY!! I WILL NOT RETURN HERE - AND I ADVISE EVERYONE TO REFRAIN FROM EATING HERE : Untrained and unfriendly waiters, Untrained Cooks, and Unappetizing waste of money food!!

This was the area formerly known to be a great place to buy different kinds of shoes with good quality and value for money. Now it is known as a venue for the arts. We saw this space while doing a bit of walking around and thought that it looked like such an inviting and relaxing place to sit and talk for a bit. The place showcased different paintings that were really attractive and for an art junkie like me, I definitely enjoyed analyzing them. The coffee was great too! It was a cold brew. I got mine iced and spiced! A bit of cinnamon was added and it definitely made the coffee better, in my opinion. It was the first time I had my coffee "spiced" and I found it really good. Other than paintings and murals, they also had a blue booklet on the table we sat in. It contained a number of poems written in Tagalog. What is a place called The Warrior Poet without poems right? I found this spot very cool because you don't see much places like this in Manila. I also heard that they also hosted small events of poem reading and appreciation which definitely gave me another reason to come back. Not only was the place cool, but the owner and Warrior Poet himself was! Noel Santos was friendly and had a little chat with us. He was very inviting and filled us in with what happens in both his shop and the whole Cubao X itself! I would recommend those who love art, poems and basically anyone who want something different to come check this place out! You'll definitely love it! I was looking around and checking out the artwork for a while, then I decided to get the spiced tablea hot chocolate. I was very happy with the spiced chocolate, as it was really creamy and rich: exactly how I would like a cup of hot chocolate to be. The owner kept me entertained and they were showing me how to fold origami cranes. I like the artworks so much that I promised the owner that I would come back to buy one of the paintings.
