We felt very respected and cared for during the entire event, and the tech (like mics, tv, audio) were prepared well and of high quality, and did not take away from the eulogies and mourning experience.

If I could give negative stars I would…read more After being sold to another company years ago (Dignity Memorial, based in Houston Texas, which happens to be the world's largest funeral/cemetery/crematory chain), Cascade Memorial became focused on profit, not service. Not alerting families of this change or giving them any chance to go over new or "needed" paperwork (on their end), when they sold out. While this may have been a smooth transition for most, for others, it's caused upset, acute distress, frustration, extreme anxiety and overwhelming emotional dysregulation. At a time in families lives, a company like this, should be helping guide and ease their grieving process... not add to the heartbreak and worsen the pain. Being in this business requires a level of compassion that Cascade Memorial clearly lacks. Staff have lied to both families and state offices about paperwork needing to be filed. Lack of accountability is an understatement. Email threads, phone calls, paper trails and learning the history of this company being sued for similar reasons (they will be hearing from more attorneys and possible news outlets soon) has been beyond shocking and traumatic. Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult challenges someone will face, and to "hold" a body for over not just one but two months?! Is disgusting, shameful, abhorrent, evil and when it comes down to it, inexcusable. This company should be ashamed of what they are putting some families through and I will make sure that I never, ever recommend this place. Cascade Memorial and frankly, the other South Sound Region places Dignity Memorial owns (just to be safe) have been black listed from anywhere I will recommend patients and families. I am disgusted and disappointed and hope that someday, this place can change for the better... but for now, this review is to warn others to stay away, change memorials or at least be aware of the pain and suffering they are causing. I have lost many people in my life from grandparents to children and many others in between, and so I have had a lot of experience in this area. In my experience, people in the funeral services business are some of the kindest, most empathetic people out there. I always considered them angels on God's mission. If you feel that way too, stay as far away from this place as possible. Me: I just found out my mother passed away, I found you online and after reading your reviews, I really hope that I have called the right place. Elemental: so you want some prices? (Note: this is verbatim. No "my condolences" no "I'm sorry for your loss", nothing). Me: um. I guess. Most importantly, I'd like to speak to someone about making arrangements and having her taken care of right away. She passed away at home, and my sister is there with her right now and I'm out of state. Elemental: so you want prices then? Me: wow. Um yeah i guess but thats not my main concern. My mom has been in the house with my sister awhile so i want to know how soon you can pick her up? .....Hello? Are you still there? Elemental: hold music playing. Me: hangs up call in complete shock. For the record, I am not an overly emotional, touchy-feely, kind of person. And so I really wasn't looking for a lot sympathy wise. But given the line of work they are in I expected a little bit more than what I got especially in comparison to all of my previous experiences. I cannot imagine anyone signs up to be treated like this on such a sad day in their life. I get it, I understand that they're in the business to make money and want to make sure they get paid, but if this is how they do it, that's really sad. There are so many wonderful, compassionate, amazing places out there doing this work. Places that find gentle and respectful ways to talk to you about money while also respecting your grief. This includes finding a final resting place, or a place which will do the cremation depending on the wishes of a loved one. Having something pre planned is ideal, but not always done ahead of time. When my mother died it was within a few weeks after she moved from Santa Fe to Seattle. Because of this we were left scrambling to find a funeral home. I tried doing a Google and Yelp search of funeral homes and found that this task, which one would have thought would be simple, was anything but. You don't want to use some shady company, and it was amazing how many sketchy places came up in my search. I literally spent all night trying to find somewhere that I thought would be appropriate, but keep coming up with a lot of recommendations which I felt were anything but. Finally Cedar Lawns hit my radar and they were who I went with. Roxanne helped me through a very difficult time, and she did so in a manner which was both compassionate and stress free. They arranged to have my mom's remains transferred from the hospital to their care for cremation. Took care of notifying social security, handling the death certificate and answered innumerable questions. I know that this is something which all funeral homes are responsible for doing, but I am sure that many of them could easily use your grief to upsell you into services you don't want. This was not the case, and she never rushed me into making a decision. The details were handled smoothly and efficiently and I never once worried about how her remains were being handled. She was wonderful to work with and if you ever need to use a funeral home I highly recommend this one and Roxanne in particular. Although we had our mother cremated, if she had wished to be buried I think she would have approved of resting in their cemetery, which is well tended, peaceful and quiet despite being in Redmond. My father is 91 and suffers from dementia and prostrate cancer, so I am fairly certain I will be needing a funeral home in the near future as much as I hate to say it. At least this time I will know exactly where to go to make a difficult time less stressful.

The Kirkland Heritage Society is in the process of identifying many of unmarked graves of those early settlers and purchasing headstones for their graves. A few years back, local historian Matt McCauley started doing a cemetery tour with information and antidotes of the early Kirkland pioneers. This has become an annual event that is usually held on the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend. Matt always talks about a few prominent people and events but always provides different materials on different families. This year he had Brian Westcott who is a descendant of many of the early Kirkland and Bothell pioneers take the microphone for a few minutes to talk about his ancestors who included the Northup family. Interestingly, when the cemetery was founded, most cities didn't have parks and as it probably had a commanding view of Lake Washington was a popular place to take the family for a Sunday picnic.
