I found the staff to be very friendly and competent, and they always saw me on time. Dr. Verma diagnosed my allergies after four visits with testing, and he prescribed an antibiotic and Flonase, which seems to have cleared things up. In fact, as soon as he read my checked-off form about my symptoms, he knew I was allergic to dust mites at least. I got a $10 anti-mite spray from Bed, Bath and Beyond, and that seems to have been enough to clear up my problems. I would have scored this higher, but Dr. Verma only recommended that I immediately start taking allergy shots. I wish he had given me some recommendations about using OTC drugs or prescriptions first, as I hadn't tried that before. I didn't want to spend five years of my life taking shots, so I've been trying avoidance techniques I got from the internet, and it seems to be going pretty well. That's my only complaint about the doctor, but it changed what should have been five stars to three.

I transferred in from another allergist, who I really, really miss (retired). The Dr.s Verma…read morepractice really does NOT place an emphasis on patient service. The office leaves patients waiting for antigen injections sitting in the waiting room while the staff is in the back doing who knows what. One would think when they have multiple people waiting, taking time out of their work day to be there, the office staff would do their best to quickly get them in and out. But not at the Verma practice. The staff comes first. If there was another allergist to use in Ventura, I would drop Verma, but unfortunately, they are about the only game in town. It is a shame there are no alternatives.

Not long before visiting Dr. Voorman, he had begun taking aspirin, a drug we later saw was listed as ototoxic. Without disclosing the fact of ototoxicity to us, he said to my husband, "A virus ate your auditory nerve." When we relayed Dr. Voorman's 'diagnosis" to our family physician, he said of Dr. Voorman's statement: "I don't think that's funny." And upon Dr. Voorman's flippant, un-lab-corroborated diagnosis, he neither advised to stop the aspirin, nor did he refer to a physician for evaluation of a "virus." However, he did inform us that his office was selling hearing aids. Given that the treatment of my husband differs markedly from the quality of care reported by other patients in reviews---- and given the experience that some doctors bring their bigotry into their practices--- it is reasonable to wonder if Dr. Voorman's treatment of my husband was a manifestation of ingrained religious and/or ethnic prejudice and not simply attributable to an inability to entertain objectivity and scientific method in the treatment of patients.
