Overall my experience at this school was good, considering the kind of area that it's in where…read morethere's a lot of ghetto people and shady stuff happening all the time. The majority of the teachers I had were some of the best I've ever had, I personally wasn't bullied nearly as much as I was in middle school, and the buildings are nice such as the cafeteria, library, and the photography class. The classes this school offers are very fun and useful as well. However what takes off some points for me was the YONDR situation. Now I don't know if this is something that is still happening to this day, since I graduated from this school 4 years ago, but YONDR ruined a lot of my experience in this school. YONDR were these phone pouches that were introduced the start of sophomore year for me, and ALL students were required to put their phone in this pouch for the WHOLE ENTIRE DAY and the pouch would be locked, and your last period teachers would have to unlock it for you at the end of the day. They wouldn't even let you use your phone for lunch break either. I remember when word was spreading that this YONDR thing was going to happen and I just laughed because I thought this idea was beyond stupid, and yet they went through with it, and for the next 3 years of high school, I spent 70% of my time there with my own phone locked in some pouch. For the people that enforced this onto students I hope you realize that you're taking away a big element on what makes us happy and keeps us entertained. If I want to spend my lunch break on my phone that should be my own choice, if I choose to be on my phone for 10 minutes instead of engaging in a small conversation with my friends then that should be my decision. Keep in mind that I hardly EVER used my phone during class, I wasn't like most students where they were GLUED to their phones constantly and couldn't bother doing any work or let alone pay attention to the teacher, but the fact that you ASSUME I am, is very insulting. The main thing for me is I think if the people enforcing this actually thought this out, they should have had a look at the students who had a history of using their phones in class and causing a disruption with their phone, and made them use the YONDR pouches, then by all means, force THOSE PARTICULAR STUDENTS TO USE THE POUCHES. Why do I have to be punished for other students prior history of obnoxiously using their phones? Even my own mother thought this idea was stupid, and you'd think that parents would be for this idea since a lot of parents these days all say the same thing "these kids today always glued to their phones" but most of my friends parents thought this was dumb too. What these people fail to consider is that what if my parent wanted to text me about a transportation issue? Like maybe my dad will be picking me up today, or that I'll need to walk home, what if my parent or brother needs help with something only I know how to do, or my brother just got ran over and is dying and he wants to hear from you one last time? The possibilities of things going wrong with this are endless and now you're forcing the parent to take the extra step to call the office, to call the teacher, to call your child to pass on the message. This created way more problems than it did solved them, because for one, students would make it look like they put their phone in the pouch in front of the teacher, but it would be a fake phone or a calculator, so you've already failed that idea. Secondly, students would constantly vandalize the pouch and try to break it open to use their phone, causing irreversible damage to the pouch, third, students would bring their own magnet to open up their pouch whenever they wanted, and lastly, students would steal the teachers magnet for themselves, so now that leaves the students in the final period to be without a pouch and now they're screwed. It also did NOT make students more engaged, because students were now more focused on ripping these pouches open with their bare hands to have access to their own personal devices. I even had a teacher (who was one of the best teachers I've ever had) not enforce YONDR and if they caught you with your phone, would just give you a warning and not make a fuss about it, because this teacher understood us and thought this whole YONDR thing was ridiculous.Like I said, overall I think this school is fine, but if you naturally find it uncomfortable that a school is locking your kids phones up for the whole entire day, I'd recommend going to another high school that doesn't enforce this because YONDR will make any sort of communication with your child while they're at school almost impossible.

For Redwood Christian Middle/High School (San Lorenzo)…read more It is selfish of the school to cause so much traffic by only having one entrance in a highly residential area where it causes Buses to be significantly delayed. It is selfish of Redwood Christian to cause major traffic along a major Bus Route that is used by other students at nearby schools. In comparison to other schools, this car system is the worst of the worst. Although a response may be that allowing students to be dropped off at the back entrance near Via Vista/Neilsen will cause disturbance to the residents in that area, at least that door is not part of a major Bus route (93, which is used by many students: Arroyo High School, KIPP Schools, Bay Elementary, Bohannon Middle School, and even more schools further down). Because cars won't move at all on the one-lane street unless they get into your school, it causes the Bus to be stuck there for 5-10 minutes for such a short distance. The negative impact of such delay is a late bus of regularly 10+ minutes, up to 20 minute delay. It is not simply "take an earlier bus" if the school can decrease traffic.

Not only do they emphasize academic progress, they also balance the curriculum out with fun, play, music, foreign language (Spanish) and teach to make sure the students become well rounded citizens of the Earth. The student body is already very well diversified! The school is very well organized under the school principal Ms. Kaya. Staff of whom we have interacted with are extremely nice and responsive to any concerns. Tuition is one of the most reasonable you can find in the whole Bay Area, the value each student get is tremendous! The tuition even includes extended care which in already pays for itself! Especially for busy family with both full time working parents. Public schools usually ends around 2:30, but your tuition includes extended care until 6:00! I think my husband and I are both in awe, every month, on how little we are paying for a "private school" education. In fact the tuition is very similar to our local public schools after school program, and that program was suppose to already run by a registered non profit organization! Our family is extremely grateful that we have found this school. And grateful for all the teachers and staff our children have had so far. Big shout out to Ms. Mary (which my children talk about everyday, even if they have already moved on from her class), Ms Divine, and Ms. Contreras. Special thanks to all the administrative staff: Ms. Maria, Ms. Hernandez, Mr. Hawkins, Ms. Mary-Ann and countless others! I am surprised that not more people know about this hidden gem! Maybe the parents of students going to the school wants it to stay that way! The way we found out about this school was a referral by our friend. I heard that the Union City campus is already at full capacity every grade and is baffled why the CV campus is not yet. But don't take my word for it! Contact the school and take a tour yourself. You don't know what your kids are missing!

At CVHS the teachers (more than one and on numerouse occasions) had said "do your homework or not I get paid all the same" the teachers at Redwood are STILL paying their student loans and are further commited to excellence than any school in this state. My best friend started her first year teaching at this school during my first year attendance and I feel we 'learned the ropes' together. Although most students were 'challenging' having their social/personal lives conflicting with academics, I honestly do NOT think half my graduating class would have even made it to that day if it were not for the debunking of the rumors that coexisted with this school by the teachers I had the oppertunity of knowing. Yeah this all sounds wierd even now being 2013, five years after graduation, but if I could go back to when I was at the 'main high school' I would STILL choose Redwood. Also if Hoffman and Schooley are still teaching...they are bitchin. (positive sense) Also, I havn't been around campus in a few years so if they are no longer a bunch of portables on a parking lot good for them!

There are many teachers that are great, but many that are bad. My friend nearly failed Integrated 1 in the first semester because of some unhygienic teacher who apparently wore the same exact clothes each day. He also would give you a 0 on a test if you didn't do it his way. I'm so glad I didn't have him. The extracurricular programs are okay. I am in marching band and it was not the best. They didn't let me march one year because they apparently "didn't have any spots left." Which is probably the most dumbest excuse ever because people who were A LOT worse than me got to march, but I didn't. If you don't end up marching, you still need to show up, I have no problem with that, but they treat you like a worthless slave during competitions and you don't feel like you're in the band. Lunch isn't until 1:00pm and there are no short days. If you do 0 period, you are there for 8 hours a day with no early days. Apparently, someone was sexually assaulted in a serious way and the school only suspended the person. They were literally arrested and the school didn't bother to expel them. They don't even bother fixing the bathrooms in 700 hall, which really need to be fixed. There is some things that aren't even our fault. For example, the sinks rarely have running water. Most the school danced are boring and they don't let you leave. Most the school is outdated and has trash all over the place. There are NO FIELD TRIPS besides senior stuff, which is dumb because they lie and say there are plenty more. That is my brutally honest review.
