This is not your average meat market. This is Schwai's. If you had ever been to the bar near…read moreJackson, you know what I am talking about. The Schwai Brothers love food. They make bratwurst that are artisan. They have a great deli counter. I have been known to show and ask what they have for lunch and they make me a full meal to go. Likes: Atmosphere, Bratwurst(especially the Hungarian), smoked meat, bacon, brat patties Cons: I don't like the baked goods they have brought in.

I had a coupon for Schwai's that I wanted to use, so my family and I made it one of our stops on a…read moreSaturday morning. The store is gross. Junk "antiques" in half of it, multiple large display cases that weren't working and looked like they were from the 1970s, and the only meat available in the case that was working was meat for slicing. Nothing fresh and unfrozen like chicken breasts, steaks, or ground meat. All of the frozen items were in chest freezers, which made it difficult to dig through compared to standing freezers, and nothing was labeled with a weight or price, so it's a blind guess as to how much you're spending. The owner was pleasant, but the lady working behind the counter was flustered and rude. I asked to have one of the packages of brats weighed so I could try to figure out what things cost. She rolled her eyes, heavily sighed, and slightly ripped the brats out of my hand to weigh them. She had calmed down by the time I eventually checked out, but I didn't appreciate the reaction to a reasonable question earlier. I wouldn't go back. There are so many other meat markets north of Milwaukee that look better, have a better selection, and I've not experienced poor customer service at.

He was super friendly and even recommended some places to stop on our route. First time in Wisconsin, super friendly people! We were lucky to stop here, thank you!

In addition to their meat products, you'll find cheese from award-winning cheese makers like Widmer's Brick and Vern's sharp cheddar. Expect to find favorite stand-bys, too, like string cheese, cheese spreads, and varieties of squeaky curds. (Crackers for your cheese, too!) You'll find shelves full of condiments, mustards (ketchup on a brat is verboten!) pickled veggies, jams, jellies, maple syrup and honey. Most are made in Wisconsin including products from Door County's most famous orchard. (Some honey is imported from Pennsylvania.) You'll also find a remarkable variety of soft drinks and sodas in flavors you'll recognize, some you never heard of and and others you never dreamed of. Where this store really shines is in sausage making. You'll find an unbelievable assortment of summer sausages, hot dogs, beef sticks, and over 40 varieties of bratwurst. You'll find liver sausage and braunschweiger side-by-side (there IS a difference) Thuringer and sausage with a kick! If you live in Omro, Eureka, Berlin, Redgranite or even Oshkosh, this is a necessary market for you. If you're a weekender on your way to Upnorth, take a detour on 23 west from I-41 and stop here to stock up on your weekend cookout and snacking needs. Seriously, give this market a try! This place is special. Stop in and pick up some of their outstanding cheese and family recipe sausages. You'll thank me later.

Everything I have purchased from The Conscious Carnivore has been exceptional, but my favorite…read morepurchase hands down has been the grass-fed ground beef. We bit the bullet and purchased the Super Grinder Box - 25 lbs of grass fed ground beef and 4 whole chickens - and it was a fantastic decision! We prepped the burgers by mixing the meat with garlic and onion powder, seasoning each side with ample salt and pepper, then grilling the burgers at 500 degrees for 3.5-4 min/side. THEY. WERE. INCREDIBLE. The grass-fed beef has a unique taste and I have come to prefer it. I will never go back to store-bought beef... and I love to be able to buy local. Next time we will go for the Ground Beef Box instead, though, as the chicken is a bit too messy to prepare for our liking. We ordered 4-Rib Roast for Christmas dinner and that, too, was wonderful. The Rib Roast is a bit too fatty to be a personal favorite for me but the men absolutely loved it. The dry aged New York Strips we ordered a few weeks back were absolutely wonderful, and I highly recommend the barbecue sauces for pulled pork/chicken recipes and the cheddar beef sticks are an awesome snack. You can't go wrong with anything from this store!
