I grew up dancing as a kid but after high school, there really wasn't anything further I could do at my home studio, so I stopped dancing altogether. A few years passed and I missed dancing so much and decided to search and see if any studios in the city offered adult classes. That's when I stumbled upon Dance Code. From Ballet to Hip Hop to dancing in heels, and from beginner to intermediate to advanced levels, this studio really has so much to offer the adult dance community. All classes are drop-in and you can buy an unlimited monthly class pass, so you can try them all!! The owner, Sarah Torkoly, has created something really special at this studio. It is such a positive, fun, and encouraging atmosphere where everybody is made to feel welcome. I highly recommend this studio to all!!

I've contacted the website twice with no response and messaged Sarah Torkely herself but I haven't been able to recoup my money even though she told me I should be refunded. Very confusing and disorganized classes and website. Will not be recommending to anyone

I previously left a positive review earlier in my training; after completing over 2 years in the…read morecompetitive ballroom dance program, my perspective has evolved after the full experience, and here are as follows below: I trained at Elite Dance Studio as an adult in the Pro-Am competitive ballroom dance program for approximately 2.5 years. During that time, I invested significant time and financial resources into private lessons, competitive practices, and competitions (local and out-of-province). I practiced consistently, reviewed videos, took detailed notes, and actively asked for feedback on progression. The instructors are technically skilled, and the studio emphasizes discipline and competitive standards. For adult competitive students, here are important considerations: * There was no written or objective progression framework outlining typical timelines between levels * Advancement criteria were not formally documented and relied on instructor assessment * Progress discussions were primarily verbal rather than structured in measurable benchmarks * Costs can escalate beyond private lessons (competitive practices, mock events, visiting coaches, Pro-Am competitions, etc.) * Dance competition expenses can range approximately $1,000-$3,500+ per event, excluding travel and accommodations This model may work well for students who are comfortable with open-ended timelines and long-term financial commitment. For adults seeking clearly defined benchmarks, written evaluation criteria, and predictable budgeting, I recommend clarifying expectations in detail before committing to an intensive competitive track. Ultimately, I chose to step away because the financial structure and progression model no longer aligned with my personal goals. This review is shared to provide transparency for future competitive students so they can make informed decisions.

J'Adore Dance and Wellness is the home of Salsa Babies!…read more I heard about Salsa Babies when my daughter was but a wee lassie so I registered for a session. Hot tamales Batman - so much fun! The long and the short of it is a salsa/latin dance class for moms in which your baby is snuggled to you in their baby carrier. Yuppers, your baby is your dance partner! Usually classes are once a week for 10 weeks and each class is about 1 hours. It's a great way to help you lose your baby weight, make mommy friends, socialize your child and have a great time. The classes are a bit pricey, about $125. I believe you can claim this as a child fitness credit - added incentive. J'Adore Dance and Wellness also has a number of toddler and preschool dance classes and programs that help your child develop movement skills and a love for dance. I know we'll be going to more!

If I could post a quarter of a star I would, but that's not an option. I don't usually post reviews…read morebut needed to from what I experienced. My daughter attended J'adore for 4 years. It was good the first year, with competent teachers who actually taught dance, corrected poor technique and gave feedback on semiannual reviews. However every year after that the studio would shift focus and redesign their curriculum, create new class levels. It was frustrating and confusing. In order to get my daughter noticed-the staff have specified favorites and ignore most of their dancers who actually support their entire business-and moved to the next level, which she needed, she was required to attend a specified number of summer class to "qualify". She qualified and was moved up a level, but the teachers still had to dumb down the dancing to the lowest level of dancer on the class instead of teaching and improving everyone. Last year she was approached by a teacher during class and told they wanted her in their company. I was taken aback that the teacher would approach the student first and not the parents. I actually cried in the car on the way home because I knew she wanted to attend but we couldn't afford it. The program is ridiculously expensive because I had asked about it the year before. After back and forth with the studio, a deal was worked out to allow my daughter to participate in the company with a scholarship provided by the school which I greatly appreciated and my daughter was thrilled. The company program is intense and even still at the company level the teachers only give solos and special parts to a handful of their favorite dancers and dumbed down dances to the lowest level. Unfortunately, our family had to move in December for a job opportunity ( we knew for 3 months we were going to move but waited until absolutely necessary) and I was afraid to tell the studio my daughter was moving because I knew they would treat her differently and ignore her. Which is exactly what happened, they took her out of dances, made her stand to the side in classes, and ignored her completely when we had our house under contract and I had to tell we were moving. On top of that, I immediately received a new invoice with additional charges for the classes she had attended so far, which removed the scholarship almost entirely. I argued and showed proof of their shady and unethical billing practices, but was repeatedly sent bills and as another parent wrote earlier, threatened with collections. The teachers yell and scream at the girls making them feel stupid and incompetent. And what's worse is the the "pay to play/dance" mentality. In order to have a "special" part in their Nutcracker performances, you audition and then have to pay and extra fee to participate. The quality of their performances at first was good, with their shows performed at real theaters, but this last Klara performance was at a crappy high school auditorium and the tickets were ridiculously overpriced. Originally my daughter was supposed to be in 4 numbers, but they decided to give the teachers-who are also part of their new dance company attached to the school which is a place for the older girls who used to attend J'adore can't get a real professional dancing job to teach and still dance- special parts in the performances instead of showcasing the students. I was so frustrated that the teachers had run good staff off (Ms. Alyssa and Mr. Ryan) and stretched themselves too thin choreographing for their favorite students that decided to scrap the student numbers and give solos to the teachers. I don't want to pay money to see a terrible performance of the Waltz of the Flowers not on pointe except for the teacher on pointe and has turned in feet and sloppy technique which she's teaching to others. I am glad we have moved because my daughter is getting REAL high quality dance instruction at more than half the price.

As a social dancer, my favourite part about the teaching method is the focus on building blocks instead of very specific patterns. I love that the studio is committed to all three of the main dance styles one would encounter at a Latin dance event (i.e. Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba) and their monthly free vibes events are a great way for people to get a taste of the studio's curriculum and meet some new people in the mini-social held after the class. As of this year, the studio expanded into performance teams in all three dance styles, so there is something here for everyone.

Reviewing this place is difficult because it does a lot of things right, and a lot of those things…read morearen't necessarily obvious to someone who is just starting, but the TLDR is that imho, Rythms is probably the best, and fastest resource to learn Salsa and Bachata in Edmonton. Strengths: - The environ replicates battlefield conditions, so to speak, moves are introduced with variations that encourage both leads and follows to try different things and not simply repeat choreographies through rote memorization. - The classes are longer than any other studio I've tried, and there are 30 mins of music played after class for one to practice. - Excellent community, everyone is rather friendly, and there are usually quite a few people who will be up to practice after every class. - Focus is on being able to lead, and follow the moves studied, and not on merely replicating how they look. This is the biggest one for me, as understanding the principles behind the how and why of moves makes one able to do them with anyone, and not merely the other people in some particular class who remember some particular choreography. - Classes are much more frequent than in other studios, allowing for faster progress if one desires, there are 2 Salsa and 3 Bachata classes a week, as well as 4 free socials every month, which have rather decent attendance. -Very, very punctual and professional: In the time I've attended (about 3 months now), I have not experienced a single class being cancelled, or starting late, for any reason. I have been very pleasantly surprised by this. - 50 dollars for every class offered in a 30 day period is quite a steal. That's up to seven two hour classes a week. Weaknesses: - The area the studio is in is not the best, and the place can be hard to find, there is a sticker on the outside door, but that's it. It does show in Google Maps, though. - I swear the washrooms were in the Silent Hill games.
