I previously left a positive review earlier in my training; after completing over 2 years in the…read morecompetitive ballroom dance program, my perspective has evolved after the full experience, and here are as follows below: I trained at Elite Dance Studio as an adult in the Pro-Am competitive ballroom dance program for approximately 2.5 years. During that time, I invested significant time and financial resources into private lessons, competitive practices, and competitions (local and out-of-province). I practiced consistently, reviewed videos, took detailed notes, and actively asked for feedback on progression. The instructors are technically skilled, and the studio emphasizes discipline and competitive standards. For adult competitive students, here are important considerations: * There was no written or objective progression framework outlining typical timelines between levels * Advancement criteria were not formally documented and relied on instructor assessment * Progress discussions were primarily verbal rather than structured in measurable benchmarks * Costs can escalate beyond private lessons (competitive practices, mock events, visiting coaches, Pro-Am competitions, etc.) * Dance competition expenses can range approximately $1,000-$3,500+ per event, excluding travel and accommodations This model may work well for students who are comfortable with open-ended timelines and long-term financial commitment. For adults seeking clearly defined benchmarks, written evaluation criteria, and predictable budgeting, I recommend clarifying expectations in detail before committing to an intensive competitive track. Ultimately, I chose to step away because the financial structure and progression model no longer aligned with my personal goals. This review is shared to provide transparency for future competitive students so they can make informed decisions.

The studio is on the second floor so we were a little lost at first, but found our way once we stepped inside the building. Our workshop was an hour long, but it flew by so fast. We had such an amazing time. Both Alex and Ana were so sweet, friendly, and very helpful. Alex was cracking jokes throughout the class, helping us feel comfortable too. I look forward to coming back in the future, for more beginner-friendly workshops or even dance lessons. Thank you for having us! :)

The studio has a staircase to enter as it's on the second floor. I believe there was an elevator there as well for accessibility. The dance floor is bright and inviting. We hung up our coats and got started right away. I love that the private lesson was catered specifically for us and we could really work on dancing together at our own pace vs in a group may be different. This is also a very romantic date idea! I highly recommend Simba who was our instructor as he was very friendly and made us feel very comfortable at the dance lesson. I hope to do more dancing with E-Town Salsa again in the future!

As a social dancer, my favourite part about the teaching method is the focus on building blocks instead of very specific patterns. I love that the studio is committed to all three of the main dance styles one would encounter at a Latin dance event (i.e. Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba) and their monthly free vibes events are a great way for people to get a taste of the studio's curriculum and meet some new people in the mini-social held after the class. As of this year, the studio expanded into performance teams in all three dance styles, so there is something here for everyone.

Reviewing this place is difficult because it does a lot of things right, and a lot of those things…read morearen't necessarily obvious to someone who is just starting, but the TLDR is that imho, Rythms is probably the best, and fastest resource to learn Salsa and Bachata in Edmonton. Strengths: - The environ replicates battlefield conditions, so to speak, moves are introduced with variations that encourage both leads and follows to try different things and not simply repeat choreographies through rote memorization. - The classes are longer than any other studio I've tried, and there are 30 mins of music played after class for one to practice. - Excellent community, everyone is rather friendly, and there are usually quite a few people who will be up to practice after every class. - Focus is on being able to lead, and follow the moves studied, and not on merely replicating how they look. This is the biggest one for me, as understanding the principles behind the how and why of moves makes one able to do them with anyone, and not merely the other people in some particular class who remember some particular choreography. - Classes are much more frequent than in other studios, allowing for faster progress if one desires, there are 2 Salsa and 3 Bachata classes a week, as well as 4 free socials every month, which have rather decent attendance. -Very, very punctual and professional: In the time I've attended (about 3 months now), I have not experienced a single class being cancelled, or starting late, for any reason. I have been very pleasantly surprised by this. - 50 dollars for every class offered in a 30 day period is quite a steal. That's up to seven two hour classes a week. Weaknesses: - The area the studio is in is not the best, and the place can be hard to find, there is a sticker on the outside door, but that's it. It does show in Google Maps, though. - I swear the washrooms were in the Silent Hill games.

While I studied ballet for 14 years growing up, it had been 15 years since my last class, so you could basically say I was a beginner all over again. The dance studio is right at the very front of Sherwood Park, so it is quite easy to get to and not too far from the city. The space itself is nice, a small wait area for the kids in between classes to hang out or for the parents waiting. There are a couple studios - though I only saw two. I was quite nervous when I walked in but the woman who was working at the reception desk was amazing! She was warm and welcoming and totally positive, making me know I was in good hands and in the right place. The fabulous owner, Noelle and her daughter Kristy are always around and are just two of the best people and dance instructors you could find. I observed a youth hip hop class for a few minutes before my class was to start, you could really tell that the kids were learning, super in to it and having a blast. Their instructor was really great. And this themed carried on as I started my class. I have to say, just wow, the man who teaches the ballet classes is just superb: Well trained as a dancer as well as an instructor. Providing the perfect balance or theory, etiquette, history and body consciousness. If you are looking for a dance studio for your children or for yourself, Step By Step is a caring and wonderful environment. You will not be disappointed, so definitely go and give them a proverbial (and literal) swing on the dance floor!
