Fantastique staff. Spotless rooms. Garden oasis. All descriptors of a wonderful experience at this adorable motel. Entering through the parking lot of this cute motel, the visitor is in awe of the freshly potted flowers hanging upon the fence, sitting on the balcony, and staged at the lobby entrance paired with a wooden welcome sign. Stepping into the quaint lobby, the guest is immediately greeted with a warm hello. After checking into the last room available, the registrar insisted upon meeting us at our room due to previous key card issues with the door. We parked our vehicle and walked toward the room. A large, vintage window reminds one of a cottage. The registrar opened the room, turned on the light, and introduced herself, stating her end of shift time and who would replace her. Walking across the threshold, one notices the spotless interior and well laid out space. A live bamboo plant sits upon the flat screen television and a welcome snack of potato chips and a bottle of water is placed on the countertop. The weary traveler can take solace in the fact they will receive a well rested evening atop a cozy bed and an offering of a variety of breakfast staples. A high recommendation is well deserved. We will definitely return in the future. read more

I spent one night here because I-95 was turning me into a driving zombie and I feared for my life and the lives of others. Trust me when I say that I wanted to spend as little time in Walterboro, SC as possible, and just needed a cheap place to sleep for eight hours. This hotel is right on the side of I-95. Check-in was easy, it had free, reliable Wi-Fi, it was quiet and I wasn't murdered. I wouldn't make this a destination (it looked as though the town highlight was a Waffle House), but it beats sleeping in your car. read more

Upon arrival the employee was asleep, it took several minutes and doorbell rings to get her to assist us with service. She was then rude and proceeded to be short with us. After giving us keys to a room that we didn't reserve, she woke us that same morning at 8:00am to ask a question about my card. Before asking questions she started with "YOU NEED TO GET OUT NOW". She was very disrespectful even after I tried to talk to her and would not tell me anything. I then spoke to the manager and she was polite and was able to help in a more Respectful manner. The hotel room was clean, however the air conditioning systems are poor, and they cut the air off multiple times throughout the night. The rooms are hot, and just thrown together. The decorations are all the same and poorly placed. The owner (I'm assuming) proceeded to give me the wrong room keys, the room was already occupied, we then had to switch rooms again for the third time, to finally get what we were paying for. Any Questions I had she answered them with an eye roll and an attitude. This place sucks! It might of been affordable but the night staff is poor and the owners aren't nice at all. will not ever be staying again. read more

We stopped in at 10pm and left at 5:30am so all we needed was a place to put our heads for a bit and this econolodge didn't let us down. This is not a 4 star hotel but it is a clean, safe, cheap place to sleep for the night when road tripping. Staff was friendly. Everything in the room was clean including the bathroom tile. The bed was comfortable. Cons: the pillows are plastic lined which is good for germs, bugs and allergies but not soft and quiet. Also, the walls are thin. read more

Very good value for a comfortable overnight stop off I-95. The staff could not be friendlier. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Non smoking room was just that, not a hint of old smoking (huge peeve of mine). Free WiFi was adequate but slow. The full parking lot might have had something to do with that, lots of guests using it. A night's stay comes with either continental breakfast or vouchers for the Waffle House a few businesses down the road. Voucher was for waffle and sausage or egg, sausage and grits, but when we got to the restaurant we were told we could also order anything on the menu and each voucher was worth $2 off. At Waffle House prices that made a big dent. The hotel's parking lot was well lit. Other guests, all fellow travelers it seemed, were quiet. Which was a good thing because you could hear quiet conversation through the door and the ceiling was also very squeaky. Our upstairs neighbors arrived late and we could follow their progress as they (quickly) got ready to turn in. The well lit parking lot was great for feeling secure but some light did leak into time room. For everything the staff had control over they were definitely five star, but the noise factor did lose them the fifth star. read more

I'm easy to please but will never stay in this hotel again! Where do I even begin?! Chronologically, our family booked a couple nights here over a month ahead of time and walked into our outdated hotel room around 4pm on our day of arrival. We were greeted by a spider next to the door (no big deal, we're from FL and used to worse; I killed it). Next, we notice that the AC is intermittently making noises, loud vibrations/humming. To be fair, there was a puddle under the AC outside our room, but others didn't appear to have puddles under theirs. Then, we see a "no smoking" placard...only we paid extra for a smoking room. So, we went to the lobby to see about a different room. No such luck; the whole hotel is non-smoking (huh??). Fair enough. We let it go. The TV helped drown out the weird AC noices, at least. Unfortunately, the beds weren't comfy. Admittedly, I'm used to sleeping on a springless mattress, but this bed was awful. The entire bed moved and caved as the other person got in/out of bed. Just rolling from my side to my back allowed me to feel all the springs inside the mattress. I usually don't want to go home from vacation; in this instance, I wanted to go home just to get a good night's sleep. Here's where things get ridiculous: About 2am, I can't sleep. I get up to use the bathroom, only to be greeted by a massive palmetto roach (like, 3 inches long!!) on the floor in front of me. After that rude awakening, I was ready for a cigarette, only the hotel is still non-smoking and it's August. I put on shoes and head to my car for a cigarette in the AC. As I'm letting the car cool off, a hotel employee (who was on her own smoke break) comes up to my window and knocks, then literally says to me, rudely, "Is there a reason why you're sitting out here in your car instead of in your hotel room?" I was floored. (Well, "Mom," I don't think you really want to know what drove me out of my hotel room, as if it's any of your business!) Here's the kicker: 9am arrives and everyone's in bed when there's a "knock, knock, click" as the hotel maid pops the door open. Not, "knock, knock.....then click," it was immediate, no time to respond. I shout "Whoa, whoa, whoa!" as the extra lock stops the door from fully opening, stopping the door as it's cracked open 3 inches. Never before, in my entire life, has a hotel maid tried to barge into my hotel room, let alone at 9am. Normally, the maids don't start knocking to see if you need anything until 11 or noon. FWIW, the place looks cute from the outside and the flower baskets are a nice touch. There's also a little breakfast included, if you're into continental breakfast style food. It doesn't make up for the rest of it though. read more

Muffins, bagels, bananas, apples, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, coffee, and juice included. A Waffle House breakfast voucher was also an option. Grabbed some fruit and yogurt for the road. However just as we were leaving my little brother saw a roach and that's not okay with me. Very nice place to stay. Front desk was extremely courteous. Had been on the road for 14 hours and after all night, we were looking for a place to rest. Just happened to call them and was glad we did. It was right after check out time and I didn't think we would be able to get a room but we did. Super awesome front desk got us in quickly which was nice. The room itself was very clean. Super comfortable bed and was non-smoking. Didn't smell smoke at all in there. Classic room with good bed and hot shower. It's all I needed. All in all, I was very pleased with this stay. Right off I-95. Stay there, you won't regret it. read more

I had a reservations for 05/05/22 05/06/22 at the Econo lodge. The first thing I noticed when I arrived the husband was auguring with a man in the parking lot. I explain to the manager that I have a reservation once inside. He stated that I didn't have reservation. Give him my ID as well as a copy of my reservation. So I said what Im supposed to do now. He said that it was not his problem and he began to get loud with me. Once outside his wife explained to me they a have situation with the lights. I informed her that her husband was being rude to me. Me and his wife return to the office and stated the he was going to double charge me. I told him, he will not charge me double, because i haven't check in yet. So he told me to leave the hotel and i wasn't going to get my money back. While sitting in the parking the lights came back on. His wife motion for me to get out and I told her no. I had to find me another hotel. My experience with this hotel was very unpleasant. Booked the night before Christmas Eve for my mother coming down from Virginia. She said they were pleasant and the rooms clean and charmingly decorated. Love the policy that 'locals'/individuals with driver's licenses within 50miles of the hotel are not welcome. Around 5pm, my 14-year old car broke down on I-95 right outside of Walterboro. The service station wouldn't get around to looking at it till the next day, so I had to stay overnight. The station recommended the Econo Lodge by I-95 and said that the owner was very nice. It turned out to be a great recommendation. The motel is attractive and the people are really nice. There are plants everywhere, even in the rooms! The bed is wonderful and the pillows are perfectly soft. The room was super-clean and well maintained. I have stayed at lots of motels along I-95 and this one was by far the best. Its just what a motel should be. read more

Probably should have applied the word "Econo" to the interpretation of the reviews, as this place was a mixed bag of pro' s and cons! Pro's: reasonable rates, vouchers for Waffle House basic breakfast, very comfortable king size bed and pillows, friendly desk person, mini fridge and microwave, and water in sink and shower that was silky soft! Con's: tired decor, despite sign on counter ballyhoo'ing renovations, very sad bathroom sink and wobbly toilet, and shower/tub combo that had been spray painted, tissue paper thin TP, tiny bars of soap, and the temptation of gastric distress at Waffle House! All that being said, this EconoLodge offers a good value if you want basic accommodations without the frills. read more

I had read that this place was a great little "gem" on TripAdvisor. ...keep going, it really isn't for $70 plus a night. Enroute to FL for vacation and I booked on a third party site, at check in, the front desk attendant insisted I give her my three digit secure code on the back of my "Visa" from my "expedia' reservation. I neither used a Visa nor used Expedia....I use Discover always......I asked for a "wake up call" for 5:15 which never came and the hotel is directly across from a run down trailer park so lock your door when you go in for the night. Very impressed! Came down to visit my dad who happens to be hunting in the area and decided to stay the night so the hubby could hunt. This little hotel is great! Check-in was a breeze and very nice. Front desk ladies were very nice and always had a smile. FREE WiFi! FREE Continental breakfast OR you can head next door to the Waffle House and eat breakfast for FREE!!! Rooms have been remodeled and are great. Bed is large, clean, and super comfy! TV is flat screen with basic cable! Bathroom is new, big, and a lot of towels. Mini fridge with microwave a plus! When you get in your room there's a little brown bag with COMPLIMENTARY (FREE) bottle of water, piece of candy, and bag of chips! Carpet looks new and clean. Room smells clean! Phone charging either direct wall plug or just the USB. They allow small dogs (30lb max)! I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 because you can hear EVERYTHING your neighbors are saying or listening to. The breakfast options were nice: cereal in the lobby or a voucher for the Waffle House. No interior corridors, you park outside your door. Terrible hotel. The pictures do not accurately depict the run down and broken condition of this property. The entire place is sadly in need of a huge update. My room had a broken toilet seat and tank cover. Cheap plastic mattress pad that wrinkled under the worn, rough, thin sheets. Bleach stains on the bed spread. Seedy looking guy kept knocking on my door to let me know I left my car lights on, they are auto off. Same guy used noisey electric hedge clippers right outside my door even though it was nearly 7 pm. The lobby has dirty windows, a couple of cheap tables and the worst continental breakfast and customer service I have ever experienced. When I checked in a lady came running in to say they put her in a room that was already occupied! After seeing my room I went back to the lobby and asked to leave. The owner's wife and preteen daughter were both rude and disrespectful to me. The owner then said he couldn't refund that night but he would for the remaining 2 nights of my stay. Against my better judgement I spent the night. Most uncomfortable night ever. The toliet and sink both backed up during the night. I had to chase a housekeeper down the next morning for a plunger and fix it myself! There was little to no cable service with just a few snowy channels on an outdated TV. Rock hard bed and old pillows. The entire hotel is covered with weird signs and dead and dying plants in cheap plastic pots. The trash cans were overflowing and the parking lot flithy. The next morning I tried to check out but there was no staff in theu lobby. I rang the bell, called the number and left messages, nothing! I went back an hour later, same thing. I finally saw the owner and his daughter fighting in the parking lot! I checked out and ran to the Holiday Inn Express. At the Holiday Inn I had an amazing stay in a clean comfortable room with a wonderful hot breakfast and fresh cookies daily in the lobby. Spend a little bit more for safety, security, comfort, cleanliness, breakfast and peace of mind and stay at the Holiday Inn!! The owner of the Econoldge Walterboro lied to Hotwire, Choice Hotel and me and has never refunded me for the 2 nights I didn't stay in his really crappy hotel!!
