Originally left a 2-star review on choicehotels.com: "Room wasn't cleaned well and the walls/door let every bit of noise through. We slept quite poorly." Turns out you can't edit reviews after submission. Two days after our July 27 stay (and my initial review), we were charged the full hold of $250 on our credit card without notice or receipt. After trying to speak to the front desk for two days (the phone line self-disconnected), I finally got through to the property manager. He was very aggressive telling me that we "smoked in the room" and they "have video evidence". Wouldn't give me his name. Corporate customer service was useless -- apparently all Choice Hotels are franchises and only the location itself can authorize refunds. Well let's start off, the rooms are a decent size, not too small. Me and my family stayed for a month due to housing issues, when we got to the room it seemed clean. Someone spilled a drink on the floor so I cleaned it with a baby wipe and the wipe was black. The floor was gross. The bathroom ls are small with only a toilet and a shower/bath tub and the sink is in the room. The mini fridge barely works and the microwave gets overheated easily. There is dogs barking all night on the right end of the building so I recommend the first floor in the back. The cleaning woman smashed a tablet she admitted to and never wanted to come in and clean down the floors, we had to ask. The ice machine is convenient and accessible. I wouldn't stay outside very long due to people drinking and other illegal things that go on at a motel. But for the most part the staff is friendly and it is workable, it's near a lot of fast food and other shops. read more

I typically know what to expect with an Econolodge. That said, this place was awful. I was unaware of the "no cat" policy. That's on me. The front desk called the general manager while on speaker phone to ask if this was acceptable for a $20 fee. The general manager also stated that the cat could not get out of "it's cage"while in the room. Not sure how he would go to the bathroom, but anyway I was in a bind, so I accepted. The general manager also said on the same call to give me room a certain room. I think it was room 231. I was exhausted so I laid on the bed and put my cats carrier on the bed next to me. Within 30 mins we were both scratching. There were fleas all over the bed and dog hair. I didn't even unpack, I just jumped off the bed and walked the key back to the front desk worker. I said please check me out "I'm good" and he didn't even ask why, he just smiled and said "ok". Stay aware from this place. read more

Ok so the only plus is the room was clean! We arrived for a pre booked 10 night stay & yes we were early but I went in the office anyway to be greeted with "Check in is 4.00" & she walked away We went & ate lunch and did some shopping we needed to do & got back just after 3.00, rather than just sit in the truck & went in to see if there was any chance of checking in, same lady walks out from the back & says "I told you 4.00" I said I know but surely they had a room ready, she then said "You have 2 dogs & a cat" I said "no we have 1 dog" Her "No 2 dogs & a cat" Me "No 1 dog" She then said she had told us not to come back last time, we had stayed there in Sept 21 & we hadn't even seen her!! I said she had me confused with someone else & she said No Then she tried to say we hadn't paid for the room until I showed her the receipt She then told me I could cancel but I didn't as it was prepaid & non refundable so I didn't want to get into that. Also it was Brimfield week so everywhere is pretty much booked up Then she said it's $400 for the dog I said again no it's 1 dog at $20 per night I also let her know that last time we stayed a man had called the owner and let me pay $100 with a $100 refundable on cc Her reply "No he didn't" & asked me how I was paying for the dog, I handed her my credit card, she then said if you pay cash I'll make it $150 So I paid her then she handed me the key & said "Don't come back" The room was clean but old & the furniture was scratched and old We were then woken up early every morning & kept awake some evenings by people upstairs walking about! Sounded like there was zero insulation between floors!!! We are frequent visitors to Sturbridge and will never (ever) stay here again. Absolutely horrible motel. Dirty, flies in the room on arrival, outlets coming off the wall, shower rod coming off the tub wall, weird outlet behind the toilet (really??), smelly towels. Shall I continue? Kid booked the place because it had the lowest price by a few dollars in the area. Good location close to amenities.Went in the winter and has an excellent heating system.The not so good ;clean but tread bare and stained sheets ;minature disposable like pillows nasty old bed spread; wicked small TV. Bathroom had worn out seat cover ;towels are minamal and thread bare . Had some newer paint and a newer vinyl plank floor which was clean ;but otherall furnature was old and chipped. The bad ; free breakfast was a joke ; nasty juice ,cheap coffee and cheap packaged donuts that made me dizzy and throwup because they were so old and tainted, All in all a place to crash but if the owner wasn't so cheap and put out some money would have much better reviews. Do yourself a favor skip the breakfast and go up the street to McDonalds for breakfast what ever you do read more

Don't bother. Check your credit statement when you leave. Don't ask the front desk for anything. This was probably the worst experience I ever had when staying at a motel. I reserved the room a month in advance. When I arrived, the room was not what I had asked for and the charge was higher. There was also a second charge (for the original room) on my credit card statement. I called the front desk at 10:30 PM because there was a party going on outside my room and it took them an hour to do anything about it. I had to use my cell phone because the telephone in the room did not work. So I will repeat: don't bother. There are many other options in the Sturbridge area. read more

This is the nastiest place I have ever had the displeasure of staying in. The management is straight up rude, disrespectful, and could use some lessons in how to treat guests. It took everything I had not to slap this rude woman in the face. I recommend anyone considering a stay at this abysmal "craphotel" to seriously reconsider their options. It is run down and outdated, and unclean. There were spiderwebs in the room, on the light fixtures, and on the ceiling. The bedding was another level of disgusting, the bed sheets had dark hair embedded in it. I wound up staying in my brothers room with him and his girlfriend, I was so damn disgusted. For the better part of 2 months now my son and his daughter have been staying here on weekends. My son is disabled and through no fault of his own is currently homeless. He has his daughter on weekends and there are NO SHELTERS THAT ACCOMMODATE A FATHER & CHILD (Shelters only help Women & Child). Apparently Econo Lodge discriminates too as I was told not to book him here again because they don't like repeat customers! They consider him an "Extended Stay". Indian Woman was RUDE and HEARTLESS about it too. If Social Security Disability didn't take 2 years to get approved, he wouldn't be in this difficult situation. I thought hotels/motels were in the business of renting rooms ... apparently I was mistaken. They don't want repeat customers or anyone in need. I asked to speak with the Owner and was told "He is out of country, you can not talk to him. I am telling you not to book him here again." How can you be so heartless? My son liked the rooms here as they were spacious and accommodated his daughter's portable crib and still had play space for his daughter. He tried staying at other motels in the area but found them to be not as spacious, inadequate (no fridge or even ice), or too expensive. Affording a weekly motel has been a financial burden while waiting for housing assistance. I am dumbfounded by how cruel the Indian Woman Manager was. My son has been through a lot over the last few years, he didn't need this hotel's heartless actions. May Karma spare this Indian Woman no mercy. She was rude to me one other time too when I had a runny nose and couldn't find a tissue - she yelled at me to "get tissue" but I couldn't find a tissue, only a napkin in the direction she pointed. Property itself appears run-down and many rooms are blocked off. During the week the hotel is pretty empty - as a business you would think they would appreciate a steady customer. Maybe they will be out of business soon, especially if this is how they treat a repeat customer. There was no need for her hostility though. She really shouldn't be a hotel manager/reception if this is how she treats people. May she walk a mile in my son's shoes. read more

My husband stayed here and checked in January 19, 2023 and I had sent him an edible arrangement to be delivered to him and dropped off at the front desk. I proceeded to call the front desk and spoke to a woman with a heavy accent and she told me that she could not put the edible arrangement platter in a fridge nor would she leave it at the front counter for my husband to pick up because it was not her job, so she proceeded to hang up on me and block my number. I cannot believe that I got this type of customer service from this brand of hotel. I am completely flabbergasted and beside myself that this woman would not even hold an edible arrangement on the counter for him to pick up because he was being delayed arrival by 2 hours for that evening. I cancelled within the correct 24hr free cancellation policy and my card was still charged. The hotel won't refund the money and gave me Bs saying I was a no show. I canceled with 24hrs timeframe bc I knew I couldn't make it. So if you book make sure you are sure you are going bc they will charge your card no matter what. I go to the town once a year for a race and I will never ever book with them ever. Be careful with this hotel they will just take your money when it's not theirs!!!! read more

I called to look into a simple question, got a really curt answer and then got hung up on. Safe and Quiet Hotel This is a great place to stay Brimfield week. The owners are always on the ground. They are watching who is coming and going from the hotel. That gives you a safe feeling during Brimfield week. The room was clean and the clerk at the desk was very friendly. read more

NEVER book a room at this establishment!!!! I called to cancel my reservation well before the required 24 hour notice. The person who answered was EXTREMELY rude. Told me he was going to "ruin my night" and he refused to cancel my room. He told me my card was already charged and that they are going to keep my money. He then hung up on me. I called back, and he did the same exact thing, hanging up on me for the second time. I called back AGAIN and he had a woman answer, and he told her exactly what to say to me. I got no where with her of course. Mind you, I had an email confirmation which spelled out the exact cancellation policy so I knew they were full of it. I travel to Sturbridge 2x a year for business and normally stay at another hotel. I mistakenly booked this hotel for a 2 night stay hoping to save a little money. HUGE MISTAKE! I checked in and confirmed my 2 night stay with the gentlemen at the front desk. Entered my room and pulled down the bedding and immediately noticed stains all over the sheets. I called down to the front desk and asked that new sheets be brought up and they were brought up immediately (and I helped remake the beds as it was late and we just wanted to get to sleep). The bathroom had an awful smell (we still can't definitively determine what the smell was) and the edges of the bathroom floor were still dirty. We would have checked into another hotel but there are no options during the antique show so we couldn't leave. Fast forward to the next day when I received a phone call from the front desk telling me that housekeeping went to clean my room and my stuff was still in it. I told him that my stuff was still in there because I had a 2 night stay. He told me that I had only booked 1 night. I immediately went onto my reservation on ChoiceHotels.com and saw a big red cancelled. I told him that I had not cancelled my reservation and booked for 2 night and was told by him that there were no rooms available that night and that I had only booked one night. I told him I was calling Choice Hotels and handling it through them as clearly he had done something to my reservation (I guess he wasn't happy about having to provide clean sheets). I called the 800 number and was told that I had, in fact, booked 2 nights and that the hotel had cancelled my reservation and that they were filing a formal complaint regarding the hotel. I called the hotel back and told them their corporate office confirmed that they had cancelled my reservation and he then told me "Choice Hotels cancelled it and they're lying to you". I explained that I was not leaving my business trip to come and empty my room and that they were not permitted to enter my room (I had my computers and other valuables in the room). Choice Hotels was unable to find us another room in Sturbridge. At 9 pm I received a call from the person in the Econolodge telling me that he had some cancellations (they probably saw how disgusting the rooms are and left) and that I could stay another night. I was born and raised in Southbridge and this hotel has been there for my entire life. Obviously I have never had a reason to stay there until I moved away and was travelling back home for a visit. I booked with them since they advertise they are a pet friendly hotel and their rates are reasonable. When I travel I don't look for pampering, just a safe, clean and secure place to lay my head at night. The hotel is built in a motor lodge style. the rooms face out and are accessible from the parking lot either at ground level or from a balcony. Inside the room it is obvious that the building is an older design, as the commode and shower/tub are in their own room and the sink is outside, part of the main room. I booked a single king size bed and there was a small couch. The room has a USB charging station built into one of the nightstands, which was a nice touch. A small one cup coffee maker, microwave, large dorm fridge, and a hair dryer are part of the equipment with the room. The television is a newer LCD flat screen with basic cable access. Of course there was a full complement of lights, phone, and an alarm clock. Wifi is free with the room. The speed was acceptable given that my room was at the back of the complex, but I wouldn't expect to stream Netflix or HBO to Go without some stutter and buffering. The room was acceptably clean, there were plenty of clean towels and linens. The king sized bed was clean, comfortable and had 4 really soft pillows. The in room coffee was acceptable, tasty even given that you had to use powdered creamer. But it supplied the needed jolt of caffeine first thing in the morning. The complimentary continental breakfast had locally sourced fresh bagels and prepackaged muffins, OJ, apple juice, and both leaded and unleaded coffee in vacuum decanters. The upcharge for pets was $20 per pet. I travel with 2 dogs, so not a problem, although they do ask to not leave your pets unattended in the room and that they not be a nuisance to the other guests. Check in at 4pm and out by 11am. The hotel is on route 20 and there is easy access to route 84 and the Mass pike. I will definitely use them again if I need accommodations in the southern Worcester county area. read more

I stayed at the Econo-lodge in Sturbridge for a one night stay. My daughter was getting married in the area and I needed to make arrangements for myself and a few others who were attending the wedding from out of town. I contacted the manager prior to our stay to ask about early check in. The manager, Andy, informed me that it would probably be fine but I should call on that morning. Arriving at the lodge, I was welcomed by Andy and my room was ready as were all of the other rooms which I had requested. (We arrived about 3 hours prior to the regular check in time.) Shortly after checking in, Andy called my room to insure that I was happy with the room(s) and asked whether I needed any others. He was warm and welcoming. When checking out, he wished me a good rest of the weekend and hoped that I would return for a stay in the future. I would whole heartedly recommend this lodge. I think that Andy went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. read more
