    Grampian Hills Apartments

I have lived in the Grampian Hills Apartments for 5 1/2 years. The apartments are large with lots…read moreof storage space. I love the location. The office and maintenance staff are topnotch. But the apartments have lots of problems. They have been around since the 1970s. The appliances, flooring and paint is freshly done for each new resident. Unfortunately, the walls do not seem to have had the kind of regular maintenance that should be done on apartments this old. Mine are buckling and cracking all over the place. It looks nasty! My bathroom is a disgrace. I have had to have the flooring replaced 3 times because of water leaks and I have 2 colors of tile in my tub surround. The complex only rewires the apartments with fiberoptic cable if the tenant specifically requests them to. When I moved in, I was advised by Xfinity that rewiring was necessary to get the proper reception for my HD television and Wi Fi. Grampian did rewire for me, but I had a terrible mess to deal with because I had to off load 2 closets and they to cut holes in my ceiling wallboard. Dust was everywhere. Not a pleasant thing to deal with right after moving into a new place. And to top it all off, I was told by Xfinity that my service will never be as good as it should be, because not all the apartments in my building have been rewired, therefore I will have feedback into my system. So, I am paying for premium cable, which I am not getting. It is also incredibly noisy in my apartment. While the apartments are soundproof in many ways, when anyone in the apartments above me runs water, I hear everything. I can tell when toilets flush, the dishwasher is running, when someone takes a shower and when they run their washer. The washer and dryer in the apartment(s) right above me are located right above my bedroom. When my neighbor(s) run their washer in the early morning, I cannot even hear my television without almost doubling the volume. When the washer spins, the picture above my bed will sometimes move. I live on the bottom floor and all Summer long my apartment smells musty, even though the complex has provided me with a dehumidifier. This summer, in the middle of the Covid 19 pandemic, I had a major incident in my apartment. In the 5 years I lived in this apartment, I have had 4-5 leaks in the dining area ceiling. Each leak was immediately investigated, patched, and repaired. However, the leaks were occurring in a main water pipe that just so happened to be in my apartment. They finally decided that the pipe needed to be replaced. It took 5 men and about 6 hours to make the repair. I had damage to multiple things in my cupboard that got drenched in one of the leaks. I had multiple holes in my ceiling for a couple of weeks and many more while they were making the repair. Then I found out that this pipe had something like 15 patches in it. It should have been replaced before it became the crisis it did. So, if you plan to move in here, make a careful inspection of your actual apartment before you move into it, and ask a lot of good questions. You will be paying premium rent, so do not settle for less. Lastly, beware of the parking lots!!! In the last 18 months, my car has been vandalized once and hit twice. The complex has no cameras or other security measures. In all cases, the individual(s) who damaged my car made no attempt to leave a note so I had to incur the cost of my vehicle repairs.

I guess I have been lucky and not had to many problems. The laundry area could be bigger and the machines break down very often, but I am centraly located so I could go any of the other laundry facilities. When ever see him he always he always says hi.

I had looked at other apartments around the same size and they were all at least $200 more. I have only had to call after-hours maintenance once (water heater broke) and in no time I had a brand new one. Despite being next to the high school, it's actually pretty quiet - aside from when the band is outside practicing. There are only 1 & 2 bedroom apartments and no pool, which makes it a somewhat quiet neighborhood because you don't have a bunch of kids running around. I don't mind kids, but in my past experience at other communities it seems like parents used the pool as a free summer babysitter. As long as you pay your rent and don't treat the place like a flop house, you won't have any problems...except for guests sometimes trying to take your parking spot.

Scheduled Labor Muscles for our house move March 11, 2023. They showed up on time with 4 guys in…read morecrew. The (very polite) guys worked hard and were quite efficient loading the rented U-Haul truck. Took them about 6 hours to move the whole house. I'd give them more than 3 stars if it wasn't for some quirks along the way... 1. A rented U-Haul truck is not the sign of a licensed PA mover (see PUC's website) https://www.puc.pa.gov/ 2. All legit movers must have PA license and insurance, if they don't have it, don't use them (they are called "gypsy movers") 3. Don't use anyone who demands money upfront... Another warning flag. Labor Muscles required me to pay 50% down upfront, then charged me the other 50% PLUS $900 extra I didn't agree to! Rather than endure a legal issue we just paid Steve Pentz, the owner... and walked away.

I had Labor Muscles scheduled to help my son move into a 2nd floor apartment this past weekend. I…read morereached out and scheduled with Steve early in the week. I explained that we were moving my son from a bi-level house to a second floor apartment and I am not physically fit enough to really be of any assistance with the heavy furniture that he has. He advised that he would be available for 8 or 9 AM and gave me a verbal proposal for 3 movers, asked for the old address and the new address and an email address. He said he would said an invoice and I would need to give a 50% deposit and the rest would be payable on moving day. No problem, except by Thursday I had never received the invoice. I reached out and he explained that I hadn't provided my email address, but he would send it as soon as I did. My mistake, and I sent it right away. I also asked him for pricing to include a truck, which he verbally provided. I never did get the invoice, so I texted him and advised that at this late date, and with his agreement, I would just pay cash on moving day, which he agreed too. 6AM on moving day I got a text from Steve asking for confirmation that we were still on. I advised that we were. He explained that he was down a truck and with that he would be down a mover, so they would be able to deal with that, but he was dropping his charge accordingly, which I appreciated. 8:30-8:45 rolls around and still no movers. I reach out to Steve and he advises that he won't be there until 10 AM, as he had to get the truck. I accepted this change, but advised that doing the move later would just be hotter (it was unusually hot and humid this past Saturday). He understood, but since I was intent on sticking to the 3 hour window, he did not feel it was going to be a real issue. Then at 8:54 I got a call from Steve cancelling all together as now his second truck broke down. I'm not sure why he wouldn't chose to rent a Uhaul in order to keep his scheduled work, in lieu of cancelling last minute on a customer. I personally find it hard to believe that a mover had trouble with two (2) separate moving trucks in their fleet, and am inclined to think that he decided he didn't want to be bothered. I chose Labor Muscles because of their numerous 5 star reviews, but I am sorry that I did. They were not dependable for me. This could have been an anomoly for this business, but if you absolutely need to know you have a mover that will show, you should keep looking. Luckily, my son had a friend come in from New Jersey (3 hours away) and they were able to get the heavy furniture moved.
