I went to Eclipse for color and haircut. l wanted to change my hairstyle from boring dark to something edgy. Izabela my stylist suggested blonde highlights with layers. l am glad l did. l like the new me. I received many compliments from my friends and coworkers. I've been a client of this salon for more than 10 years. For color, Matt - he is one of the owners - is terrific. No matter how many times he has handled my hair, he always asks what I'd like to do, if I'm happy with the color and outcomes. On the few times that I've had a concern or suggestion, Matt takes care of it, and the result is always beautiful-looking hair! For cuts, I've been to Mark (the other owner), Jessica and Kathleen. No complaints with any of these stylists, they know what they are doing, and aim to please. The salon can get busy, but it is always clean, the staff are helpful, and the Aveda experience (tea, complimentary hand massage, etc) and products are great. I've been to eclipse about 3 to 4 times and every time the girl that I had before has left. I know that is the environment of a competitive salon but this was the second time that the stylist was pretty inexperienced. The 1st time I tossed it up to bad luck but this last time was pretty bad. The blow dry covered it up very well , curves and all, but after I came home, washed it and let it naturally dry it was horrible. The entire cut was crooked, the layers were in big chunks and I look like I have a mullet. I had to travel right after the cut so couldn't go back to get it fixed. I fixed it here in Amsterdam and I needed to cut 5 inches off to straighten it out and fix the uneven/ layers. The women was very nice but thinking back she was more interested in our conversation then focusing on my hair and it shows. Sorry Eclipse but I wont be coming back next time I'm in town. read more

I have been going to Eclipse for about 7 years and always am very pleased with how friendly everyone is. They ask if you want water or tea. When you walk in I am immediately greeted with happy faces and eager to assist me. I normally don't have to wait too long to get my hair washed before my hair cut. They take time to make sure that the water is the correct temperature (I hate hot water) and when I ask them to scratch or massage my head while washing my hair they always do and it feels amazing! My stylist Tattiana has a great sense of style and humor and we always have the best conversations while she is cutting my hair. She listens to me and knows not too cut too much and I appreciate that. I always get a big hug when I leave and of course I always remember to tip both my hair washer and stylist. Oh and I love the hand massages after my hair cut is done. I highly recommend this salon! read more

Eclipse is a very well run professional salon. I have had my haircut at Elizabeth Arden and other salons in Westchester and Manhattan and I have to say how impressed I am with Marissa. I got my hair colored and cut there. Overpriced. The haircut lasted 2 minutes and my hair looked terrible. One side was longer than the other, the layers looked like they were chopped with an axe. They tried to charge me for stuff that was not done. read more

Disappointed. I got a haircut done by a senior stylist.i realized after coming home that it was not done well. Had to go back to set it right and stylist says that it is not the haircut but my hair that has the problem.. She did cut my hair to level it out. I have worked with stylist Theresa and she is a true artist when it comes to her craft. She has taken care of my hair and cut and styled it to perfection. I never write reviews, but I had to make an exception. I am from Long Island up for a wedding. Unfortunately time did not allow me to get it done at home. I called a few places and got nasty responses for same day being Saturday. I called here and was given a very friendly greeting and the time that I requested. Overpriced. While color and cuts can be good, pricing is very deceptive. You can get better and more complete service in downtown Manhattan for less. IF you live in the area, might be worth avoiding travel to Manhattan. But if you live in NYC, it is not worth the trip. read more

I brought my 84 year old MIL for a trial appt for a hair cut, style and make up in advance of my son's wedding in the fall. I was very specific on the phone (I called three times in advance of her appt and spoke to the manager) about her age, long hair and requested a very seasoned stylist who can handle a challenging client with difficult hair. We were taken right away and the stylist listened to my MIL's requests. She washed and trimmed her hair. Then started to style it in a french twist. Clearly, this was not going to work out well. The style was not smooth or was it what either of us wanted. She could not deal with my MIL hair. The stylist redid it and although, not happy, we went on for the next appt with the make up artist. Our stylist told us the Make up artist could redo her hair if we wanted. We were then told by the manager that the make up artist wasn't ready and we were ahead of schedule, even though we ready at exactly at the time of our appt. I told the manager that we came early, at her request, at 10:15a, from the city. Had a hair cut, blow out and tried two hairstyles and were on time. The make up artist would not be ready for another 45 minutes (clearly, she had taken another client and had just started when our appt was supposed to start) When I told the manager how unhappy we were with the stylist, I was told by the manager, that we had a junior stylist and that "it's very hard to determine what kind of a stylist to provide with just a phone conversation" (Did I mention I called 3X and told her what I was looking for?) I told them to cancel the make up artist appt and the appt for the day of the wedding. I also told them they had lost at least 10 appts by NOT listening to my very specific instructions on the phone. I did receive a 20% discount, but will never return to this salon. Epic fail! read more

If you want a real hair cut, suggestions for an updated look that suits you, or something professional but not boring, look for another salon. Not a true Aveda concepts salon. I was disappointed to find out that Wella hair color was used to color my hair instead of Aveda. The stylist failed to inform me that she wouldn't be using Aveda hair color on my hair and only mentioned it after I told her that I had traveled over 45 minutes to come to this salon because they use Aveda hair color. If I wanted to use Wella products, I could have gone to any salon. False advertisement. read more

I've switched around stylists quite a lot here (just because I started out with one and ended with a different one and 2 moved) I'm actually saddened that one of them moved because she was a color genius ! I think all of the ladies here are really beautiful and friendly and genuine. The first time I came here she was honest with me that I was hanging on to my dead hair and needed to cut it off to make it healthy again. NO ONE at any other hair salon has been so honest and wow now I have such healthy hair. She cut like 8 inches off and boom I had a pulp fiction look. A year later and I am still a loyal customer. Horrible customer service. Rude staff that passed racist comments to me. They took absolutely no care of me when I went there. They washed my very long hair and forgot to dry it. It was freezing and I was left standing there in the middle of the floor soaking wet on my back. The coloring of my roots was so HORRIBLY done - like an amateur. The color had run onto my forehead, which would not go. I had to request them to help me get it out. The lady who was helping me with the hair dye was unresponsive, unhelpful and sprung into action when I was deeply irritated by this awful service. When I tell then about the soaking hair, they tell me it is policy to not dry hair??!!! seriously - first Hair Salon - I have been to that has this silly policy in place. Not to mention, the lady behind the desk asks me if I am truly from Tarrytown as I have an accent and therefore don't know about salon customs here in NY - right which is to keep customers standing in the freezing with soaking wet hair! I tell her I live in Tarrytown and she asks but where am I truly from. I had half the mind of telling her from a place where people are more cultured, educated and sophisticated than you in treating human beings. I was so humiliated, felt ashamed at her question. And I tipped the awful hair dresser 20$ and she did not even say thank you to apologize. On top of it, first time clients get a 10% off, never got it! I was so very disappointed in this salon. They need to send that receptionist on a one-on-one course on educating her on how to be racially sensitive to customers of colour and be groomed to speak with respect with people of diverse cultures. Clearly blind in that area in today's day and age - people get fired for this kind of treatment. Horrible. My friends in UN where I work, and others who live in Tarrytown and nearby areas, have boycotted this salon for this reason. We want to support those salons that respect all types of people, are welcoming, show respect and truly embrace what America is about - not this kind of mentality. very sad. read more

Just returned from my first visit to Eclipse. I received a lovely haircut with Theresa. My overall experience was very pleasant. From the receptionist to the hair washer to Theresa herself I was very satisfied. I brought a pic. of the hairstyle I wanted and Theresa nailed it perfectly. I recently visited Eclipse and had Sara as a stylist. At first she seemed to know what she was doing. But this couldn't be farther from the truth. SHE RUINED MY HAIR. She overprocessed my color and now the texture of my hair is like Hay. I am shocked she has a job in a salon. I complained to the owner and they had no idea how to fix my hair. I think there is something mentally wrong with her due to her behavior when I showed extreme concern regarding what would happen to my hair at this point. Classic signs of Bipolar disease in my opinion. I would never go back here again. I will tell everyone I know never to visit this salon based on my experience. read more

Sarah is an incredibly talented hairstylist. She did my hair for my wedding and it was absolutely perfect. I met her after being introduced to the salon by a friend who knew I was having a terrible time trying to find someone in the area to do my hair for my wedding day. Every trial that I had up to that point ended up not looking even remotely like what I was hoping for and was so overdone that I looked as if I could be going to the prom. When I met Sarah she spent a long time listening to what I liked and the vision I had for my wedding day. She also looked at pictures of my dress to get an idea for what would work best. I cannot overstate how happy I was with how my hair turned out. I have a picture from the after party that was taken at 3:45am and my hair still looked as great as it did walking out of the salon. You would think this would involve a ridiculous amount of hairspray but it absolutely did not -- it looked completely natural and put together. I would highly recommend anyone going to Sarah -- you can trust her to do an amazing job! read more

I have been considering a pixie cut. As I have been looking at hairstyles online I got to thinking about this salon. I had scheduled a cut for my wedding day. I had come in for a consultation with the stylist Mary maybe a month or two before. She was very nice and we discussed how I would like my makeup and hair on the big day. On the day I came in with my cousins to get my hair done, I was treated very badly. I got my hair washed and was left lying there for a long time. I was given a very small towel and ushered to the stylists chair. She had an attitude right away. I didn't even say anything yet! She slammed drawers, and handled other things as if she were angry with them. She asked me what I wanted, and didn't seem to remember our consultation. She starts really roughly running her hands through my hair, I guess to get a sense of how it lays. It actually hurt. Then she raised her voice and got angry with me, yelling about how I didn't tell her I had a cowlick! That changes everything! I can't believe you didn't tell me this, b/c it's going to take a lot longer than I had scheduled to fix it! I told her that I didn't know I had a cowlick b/c I am not a hairdresser, and I don't know why she didn't notice it at the consultation. it should not have been a difficult styling. My hair was already very short, and just needed a little shaping. Plus, it shouldn't be my problem that you have problems managing your time! That I attempted to stand up for myself made her even more angry. Her angry movements and grumbling made me feel very intimidated, but I felt I had no choice, unless I didn't want my hair done on my wedding day. It still makes me angry when I think of how selfish and cruel her behavior was. I know there are people with anger management problems but to act like that to a bride on her wedding day I think is unconscionable. I don't know if she realized that I would remember this bad experience every time I recall my wedding day for the rest of my life, but it seems like anyone would. That goes beyond unprofessional. I don't know why there are some people who need to hurt other people, but there are. She maintained this seething anger the whole time, and was rough with my hair and head as she cut. It must've taken 10-15 minutes tops. At the end she just walked off. I had to figure out that it was over and take off my smock. As my cousins and I paid at the register, I felt confused, humiliated and dazed, but determined that I wouldn't let the hurt show. I tried to make light of it as I complained about her inappropriate behavior to my cousins and they couldn't believe how she treated me. They asked me if I did anything to make her like that. I told them she was like this from the moment I got there and that she wasn't like that before. I felt like I lost face. I wanted to cry. I would never have let that happen now. I would have gotten really angry and called a manager. I would not have put up with this. Period. However, months later it was still bothering me, and I thought management might be interested to know about this, so I called and told the manager what had happened. He said he was sorry and would I like to come in for a free cut. I told him that that was very nice, but no, because I wouldn't feel comfortable there. I told him that he should be concerned that she might do this to others and cost him more business, as it did mine. When he realized that I wasn't coming back, he ceased to care. At least I can leave this review, and others can avoid such an emotionally painful situation. read more

Not worth it for me. Admittedly I am a "low maintenance" type but that doesn't mean I like getting whacked in the head with a blow dryer (twice) or that I should have to endure remarks like, "You never blow dry, do you?" and "You mean you don't use organic shampoo?". The second I walked in I was overwhelmed by the busy and noisy atmosphere. I had to repeat my name and appointment time twice before the receptionist heard me and then she thrust a clipboard with a form to fill out covering all sorts of data ranging from my name and phone number, which they already had, to my profession and my address, which my hairstylist doesn't need to know. I was halfway through filling in the questionnaire and suddenly the receptionist announced my arrival over the PA at which point my stylist came over to "give me a tour". I didn't come for a tour - just a haircut, thanks. The haircut, as it turns out, is just fine but so not worth the money or discomfort I paid to get it. read more

I give this place 0 stars. The stylist wasn't terrible, personally she seemed decent. I came for a hair trial for my wedding. With a picture in mind. She said no problem, my hair was a perfect length and that I would have the curls the entire day and night. When she was done with the curling iron and hair spray, it looked lifeless. The top of my head was flat, and she explained bc she didn't tease it and it was too late bc my hair was already curled. she decided I need a haircut afterall with more layering and that what she was did wasn't working. I was unhappy. So she tried sweeping it to the side and pinning it, brushing out the curls, and did a side ponytail. Never once mentioned it would be additional money for not hitting the mark and having to try again. She then suggested I come in for a haircut the day before my wedding and that way the updo would look proper on my wedding day. She took the pins out and straightened out my curls again. And boom I was done. The slutty looking cashier said $108. Stunned I asked for what? No one ever told me a trial was $83 nor that I would have to pay an additional $25 for the stylist to fix her own mistakes. They didn't care. They said someone should have told me when I made the appt (which they didn't) and just waited for my card. Then after the slutty looking cashier couldn't figure out how she ran my card incorrectly, she brought over her manager who had a horrible looking cold sore on her lip who exacerbated the problem ringing up a different card twice refunding both cards and making the entire visit a nightmare. $108 later and I have nothing to show for it except some dead curls at the ends of my hair. I came into Eclipse for the first time a couple of weeks ago after having a baby & not having much time for myself. I was excited to find out they were open on a Sunday & that they were able to schedule my appointment on such short notice. I was running late & my husband informed them we would be there late but we wee coming. And I was so happy that we were made to feel welcome even after showing up almost an hour later. My appointment was with a girl named Teresa & I couldn't have been happier with my my visit. She listened to my husband as he trie to help explain what I wanted patiently & after he left with my son she listened to me also. Teresa have me the best cut I've had in a very long time & didn't take off more than I wanted which is usually what happens. I LOVE MY NEW HAIR & so does my husband. I also wanted to say how nice it was to have everyone be so sweet & talk to & play with my son. The receptionists were so nice too. I will definitely be back to see Teresa & bring my son for his first haircut. I would highly recommend Eclipse to anyone looking for a hairstylist & salon that goes above & beyond. I initially visited Eclipse salon in Tarrytown to do a trial for my Daughter's wedding. Understand, I have used the same stylist for the past 25 years & needed a change. Having said that, the moment I entered the salon, I knew this would be a different experience than ever before. Everyone from the receptionist, to the stylists are friendly, kind, & actually smile. Providing me with an experience I've never had before. I have since come back to Eclipse on multiple occasions & have never been happier. Each visit is a relaxing experience with a complimentary hand massage with every service. I have been using Theresa as a stylist & have never been happier. Since the wedding trial, Theresa has done a Peter Coppola Keratin treatment, a new hair cut & style & color. Theresa may be the expert, but she listens to what the client says & wants & explains everything she is doing thru the experience. As I said before, the experience at Eclipse is as similar as possible as going to a spa for a relaxing afternoon. If you're looking for a change & are unsure like I was, don't be. I get my hair highlighted last week at Eclipse in Tarrytown. I get home and have a stripe in my head. I call them and rather than just saying come in we will fix it , they say, we can fix it, but if u want it dried we will have to charge u. Nothing like throwing something in ur face after ur mistake, besides the fact that I did not want it dried, nor have the time. Today I go back they fix it, wash it, and stripe still there. Did I mention they moved my seat 4 times already!!! They now have to do a low light to try and fix, so more of my time. Manager AND owners have walked by me 3 times and said nothing. I ask for manager after 5th seat change. She comes and argues w me!!! I told her customer service is horrible. After they wash my hair 2nd time manager offers a blow out, needless to say I told her what she could blow out. Never again!!! The girl that colored my hair was very sweet, but because of how unprofessional the rest of the staff are I will not be back. read more

I booked a trial run at Eclipse for hair & makeup here ahead of my wedding ... it was disappointing, to say the least. The stylist was very nice and relaxed, which was great. However, she was unable to replicate pictures I brought of hairstyles. I used words like "elegant" and "timeless" to describe how I wanted my makeup. She gave me dark, raccoon eyes. The salon only uses Aveda, which doesn't make waterproof mascara - she suggested I could bring and apply my own mascara instead. She also said Aveda doesn't have the eye shadow colors (rose, pink) I suggested as an alternative to the dark gray/blue she'd selected. She was willing to try again and set up another trial. The reason I won't be doing that is that she may, through multiple trials, be able to accomplish the look I want. I don't have any confidence that my bridesmaids could walk into the salon the day of and get what they wanted. read more
