Thank you eclipse team(specifically Gary& Deizy) I called in the same day for an emergency fix. I got my hair done by another salon, and the person who did my hair messed it all up! Gary did the planning and Deizy did all the work on how to fix my hair. My hair was damaged from an undertrained hair stylist so Deizy did an all over color, a little bit of a trim and a blowout. Deizy was so sweet I felt like I was talking to a friend she has such a chill personality and really good at her cutting skills(picture) I also walked in this salon very nervous with my hood on because I was pissed about my hair and I wasn't sure if they could help. But they did(: Once my hair is completely, back to normal I will be coming back for a new look! The only downside is this place is quite on the $$$, $185 for an all over color and trim.. read more

Okay, so I went to Gary. Oye, he fucked up my hair royally.....really good suggestion and I appreciate the totes, but holy shit did he mess up. AND he tried to pass it off as beautiful, a great cut for me! But anyone and everyone vaguely interested in hair knows you cannot do certain things with rally straight hair. Which is mine. Like, for one, you cannot cut a whole head of long layers into long straight hair. The layers just stick out straight! It only works with wavy or slightly curved hair, so the layers can integrate....instead I look like a fringed idiot. But that was a mistake, which I suppose I could forgive. The kicker is that he didn't LISTEN to me. I told him not too short, I run and have to pull it into a pony tail....and what does he do? Chops it! The "long layers" don't pull into my ponytail, it is about 4 inches shorter AND those assenine short layers stick straight off my head. Bad job, Gary. You need to take a few moments to listen to your clients. One more thing. It is $50 for a cut there. Really not worth it, I'd say. Unless you pin him down and tell him what you want. Then make him repeat it all to you. Be sure, be very sure he is paying attention for the entire 12 minuites he devotes to cutting your hair. read more

Gary is amazing - always cuts my hair exactly as I want it and works with me to make sure I leave feeling great! He is awesome!

I don't normally write reviews but I'm sooo happy with how my hair turned out. I had gotten a choppy haircut and chunky highlights on Friday from a different salon, so I called up Eclipse to see if they could fit me in to fix my hair. Gary set up an appointment for Saturday the week after but also asked me to text him pictures of my hair. I sent over pictures and had a consultation over text and they were able to fit me in sooner, on New Years Eve. I came in on Sunday and Sohea worked on my hair. She is so sweet and worked so hard on fixing my hair. She made sure I was comfortable and explained everything she was doing as she was doing it. The haircut from the previous salon was really bad but Sohea did a great job on fixing it. Overall the color turned out amazing and I am so happy with the results!! Thank you Sohea for working wonders on my hair and Gary for taking me in on such short notice! I couldn't have asked for a better start to the new year. read more

Update: Gary called me today to discuss my review. I appreciated that he tried to work through what he saw as a miscommunication, and that he cares enough about his clientele and his reputation that he reads and follows up on Yelp reviews! After speaking with Gary, it's apparent that his specialty is highlights, cuts and color....NOT updos. He and I discussed that it would be helpful if he told clients that in the future, instead of just trying to do something that neither he nor the client thinks is up to his standard of quality. Since I've never had a cut or color or highlights from Gary, my review is only based on the botched updo experience. I am increasing my rating from 1 to 2 though, based on the fact that he reached out to me (and even offered me a refund or a free hair treatment to make up for my experience). read more

My hair got totally messed up at a school. It didn't look awful, but it definitely wasn't what I wanted. Gary took care and time to make sure that I left his salon with EXACTLY what I wanted. My hair looks like fire now and I couldn't be happier. Thank you, Eclipse Salon! read more

While I thought their prices were too high for me, I jumped in and scheduled an appointment with whoever was available last minute. I arrived on time and waited for a little over a half an hour past my scheduled hair cut. After checking in a half an hour before, I alerted them that I had been waiting for some time. They apologized and told me I had made a mistake and that I was scheduled for a half an hour later. While I believed them at that point, I figured otherwise because two minutes later after my complaint, the woman behind the reception desk came over and told me she'd cut my hair. Needless to say, she was pretty cold, and condescending. When I asked her for her opinion, she refused to give any input. While I understand that she could have feared I'd blame her for recommending something, she was unnecessarily curt and rude. I felt like I was getting surgery rather than a haircut. Finally, after waiting a half an hour after my scheduled time, getting a 15 minute haircut from a grumpy lady, I left with a very mediocre haircut. I walked away relieved to be out of Eclipse, and convinced that I should continue to cut my own hair and avoid salons for the time being. read more

Everyone knows how important it is to find a hairstylist, and honestly it can take a long time to find one - if ever. My hairstylist is amazing. Gary and I clicked immediately. He's one of those guys who as soon as I walked in, he was like "I know EXACTLY what I wanna do to your hair" and I just trusted him. I came in with long, thick, heavy, indian hair. It was so weighed down that it had no volume. He just made me sit back, did some of his magic and now I have layers that really work for me. I've had layers before from Bumble and Bumble, Vidal Sasoon and all the you-name-it salons from NY. Gary took his time to correct their imperfections. I definitely recommend him. He's extremely busy so you better make an appointment! read more

Gary transformed an ugly ombré mistake (part of the hair was orange!) into a beautiful, natural looking blond/brown ombré. He knows color in and out. I will be coming back. This review is long overdue. I came to Gary after I'm getting a horrible horrible ombré that left my hair bleached untoned bright yellow. Gary who was very sympathetic managed to get me in on a last minute appointment on a Sunday night (he stayed late btw). there was no time to get it fully corrected that night but he did dye my hair in a nice dark ash blonde shade to take out all the copper tones. I came back a week later and he gave me the ombré of my life. I love Gary and he is truly talented. His staff are welcoming and friendly. I'm coming back this Friday to get the dark ash blonde. I appreciate the amazing service that Gary and his staff provides. read more

I've been coming to Gary and Sohea for over half a year now and I've always walked away feeling fantastic and taken care of. I've had varying colors done gray/silver/platinum blonde. One time I didn't explain quite clearly what I wanted and Gary took it upon himself to correct that for me. He goes above and beyond for his clients. Cuts are great as well! I trust him to get the job done and he keeps delivering. read more

Michelle did an incredible job with my hair. I had really dark roots and brassy blonde hair. She did a color melt, which brought the brown color lower while keeping the ends blonde. Other salons told me it would take 3-4 sessions to achieve what she did in one. She was also so great with the blowout, taking her time to make sure it was done right. My hair looks exactly like the photos I had for inspiration and I couldn't be happier. I'd never go to any salon other than Eclipse, Gary and his team are perfect! read more

The second I walked into Eclipse I noticed Gary was just finishing up with a gal that had a great, A-line cut and it was a nice relief. Gary definitely knows how to manage Asian hair types and I don't think I've ever been happy with my longer length hair cuts. I typically get frustrated and chop off my hair short. Thanks to a friend recommending Gary, I can now attempt to grow my hair out long and have it look great throughout the process! Next challenge...getting the boyfriend to go to him too! read more

The best salon experience and best cut and color I've ever had! Gary is so effortlessly talented, and Franny and Nicole are sweethearts. ******caution: I force rank my experiences and assume a normal distribution so my average will always be 3 stars***************** I am a dude and generally hate haircuts so my criteria for a spectacular experience are a bit different. On all fronts, Gary surpassed my threshold for good haircut. a) Don't make me talk too much about my haircut. I don't know what I want, I just don't want to look like a doofus. Translating this vague urge into a haircut prescription is beyond my feeble male expressive ability. Gary blew this issue out of the water. He said, "Do you want it longer?" I grunted, "Kind of shorter" He replied, "Ok" Then he went to work and made it look like a girl would want my hair to look. Check plus. b) Understand that I want it fast. Gary read my mind and whipped through his work with the expert flourish of a rodeo calf-roper tying a calf. c) Be normal when speaking with me. Gary is actually a pleasant conversationalist. Extremely rare. That is all I want and yet I am so frequently disappointed. Thanks Gary, keep working your magic. read more

I've been going to Gary at Eclipse Hair Design for over 10 years. It's such a given that I go to Gary, I really can't remember when this long, happy relationship began. As time passes so quickly, it's likely even much longer than 10 years. Gary is without doubt the best hair professional I've ever had (and I've had many over a long life).A friend recommended Gary after yet another trusted hair stylist moved on, giving me that "oh no!" moment women hate. Gary is a committed professional. His hair cuts are always perfection. However the wind blows, your hair falls back into style. His attention to detail and high standard of excellence is refreshing. He takes great care to give you exactly what you want. He listens carefully and follows your lead, always giving you a really great experience. You will know you have a truly expert cut. I've also had my hair dyed numerous times and my hair always felt healthy and strong, never dry, brittle or damaged in any way. His perms are gentle, long-lasting and beautifully natural. You leave feeling like a star. Gary's salon is warm and friendly. He makes every client feel special. He takes time to be truly present and cares about everyone who walks in the door. They know this is more than a job for him. He loves his clients and his staff and treats everyone like family. You will be listened to, pampered. You will leave relaxed and feeling wonderful. Gary will do his best to fit you in at a moments notice and I have never had to wait. I usually walk right in and start immediately, however busy they are. the most I ever waited was 5 to 10 minutes, and that was coming in with little advance notice. Gary is the best and I'm so glad I found him. At the time he was recommended to me there were several people from the company I worked for all seeing him at the same time. Word of mouth traveled and he was the go-to guy where I worked. Go see Gary!!! You won't be disappointed. Lynn S. read more

One star, strictly for poor customer service. Emailed them to ask about something I wanted done. They asked me to send in a photo of current hair and of wanted hair. Never heard from them after. Good customer service would have been to at least reply to say, "I'm sorry. I don't think we can help you achieve that but appreciate you considering us." Instead, I got ghosted. read more

This is where I've settled into. Gary, the owner and operator,, is a very good stylist. He takes pride in his service and his products. He makes an effort to service his clients. However, sometimes time does get the better of him. He has booked too many clients into a time slot, either leaving me waiting for awhile or feeling a tad rushed...but only a tad. He only rushes you b/c he's trying to spread his attn too thinly. But one time I needed a cut/highlights done the next day. He had run out of a specific bleaching agent that he uses on my black hair, so he made a special trip the next morning to the warehouse wholesaler. Gary's effort and care make up for the off-chance that he'll book too many clients. Btw, Gary only takes cash. IF YOU GO SEE GARY, TELL HIM ROBBY SENT YOU... read more

This is a few weeks overdue now but I have to write all about Gary! He is amazing. I came in with damaged, burgundy hair that has been dyed on badly and underneath are layers of dye from the millions of times I've dyed my hair for the last few years. I gave Gary a picture of the blonde I wanted to achieve and he gave me better. I left the chair with healthier (looking) hair that is a beautiful ash blonde shade with a grayish tone. He single handledly selected this color for my head after seeing my hair and skin and picked just the right color. I've gotten dozens of compliments since I got my hair done with Gary. He really pays attention to detail, gives you what you want without destroying your hair, and you will leave happy with the hair you want. He gave me better than what I wanted and expected. 99% of salon stylists have told me it was not possible to go blonde from any shade that is darker than a light brown but Gary did it! He also did not charge me a ridiculous price like what most stylists would do which l love. He's really all about making you happy and making a good rapport which is why I will definitely be back to see him like all of his other regulars. You are a miracle worker, I'll see you soon for my touch up!! read more

This review has been long overdue! Not knowing where to go for my haircut and color, I found Eclipse Salon on yelp and decided to give it a try. Gary is awesome! I showed him the hairstyle that I wanted, he knew exactly where to go from there. I knew I wanted to add some color to my hair as well, but couldn't decide how I want it. There are no hair color samples, unlike every other salon. Gary showed me the color from a magazine, which he thinks would compliment my skin tone. I put my trust in him and let him took on. I love the cut, but the color came out to be way more subtle than I thought or how he had described to me. My hair is very thick and dark, which was why it didn't pick up the color so well. I was a bit disappointed. But Gary was nice enough to take me back for a recolor. I was very satisfied with the end result! read more

Came here last month (late, I know). I have to admit, Gary is GODSEND. I got my hair colored (purple and blue), showed a pic prior to arriving to let them know what I would like. Okay let me tell you that Gary and his team work magic. You just have to trust and let him do his thing to get you what you want. I showed him a picture and based on my current hair situation he gave me a realistic response and estimate on how long it would take and how much. If you don't care about your hair being damaged vs. cost, this place isn't for you, but they will work with you to get what you want within your budget. I sat there for 4.5 hours working on my laptop and reading so I got work done while getting my hair done. Gary is super attentive, he knows what he's doing. Great experience. Gary definitely know hair and coloring. I expressed my fear of turning my asian black hair into something brassy and unclassy. He told me what the best approach was given how pigmented my hair was. I let him do his thing and I am so beyond happy with the outcome. The highlights that I wanted are just how I wanted it be and the price was right. The stylists there are also super nice! I'm coming back for sure. read more

Awful customer service. I called to book an appointment and the receptionist was ridiculously stupid. She was so mousy and kept stuttering, and couldn't even do that for me. it's a 3 1/2 stars only because I had a specific style for my hair to look like and I didn't get it. The guy who cut my hair made my hair really smooth and shiny, and gave a much better look on the back, but the style I get in the end was very different from what I wanted. Been wanting to dye my hair for awhile now but I didn't want to travel all the way to SJ to do it. I did some research on my own and noticed that they use olaplex on all their formulas which is a plus and its pretty close to my house. Checked out eclipse salon Instagram and I loved all the hair colors that they did!! So I contacted Gary through their website. Showed him a picture of what I wanted and a current picture of my hair. I told him I wanted something natural but definitely not blonde/silver because it's too high maintenance. He totally understood what I wanted so I made an appointment with him through text and it was within the same week! I went in on a Monday at 11am and we got to work right away! Gary is very knowledgeable and explained every step to me. All the staffs here were friendly and helpful. This salon is super busy so I recommend that you book an appointment before you walk in. Also parking is difficult in this area so I would suggest taking the bus here. At the end of the day I was very happy with the result. I will most likely return and recommend this place to all my friends!! Eclipse salon just earned themselves another client!! THANK YOU GARY!! ;) read more

Frannie is absolutely wonderful - found Eclipse on Yelp having newly moved to the city, and couldn't have stumbled on a better stylist. I first went in for a trim to tidy up my long-ignored and terribly damaged ends, and came out with an amazing cut. She took off enough to make my hair look great, but kept everything I'd said I'd loved about my previous style. People commented on it straight away, and she even cut it so that I can hop out of the shower, towel dry it, and head to work without styling and people think I have. Amazing. Went in for some color the week after with her - I wanted some vibrant color (purple) and to make my grown-out ombré look fresh again. She made my hair look fuller, and put the color in so that it looks classy, and falls in beautifully. Added bonus, she's great to chat with, and the whole salon is friendly. Also very reasonably priced! Love my hair, and love my new hairdressers! read more

They took my color from red to ombre blonde in 2 appts when no one else would. It looks good and was done with love. And you can schedule by text with Gary which is so preferred to having to call I don't know why all businesses don't do this. Only reasons I'm taking a star off are because 1. for the 2nd appointment to change color I made it with Gary who said one of the other hairstylists was going to help out and that hairstylist did my hair entirely. Don't think they should do that, that's not who I made the appointment with and 2. The roots after 2nd appointment came out dark brown when I said light brown/dark blonde and they kept saying no its the color you wanted - I'm not blind, it is not. They fixed it in a 3rd touch-up but I didn't like someone trying to argue me out of something I can obviously see, just fix it if it didn't come out right. 3. The shampoo station water is hot then cold then hot then cold. I still strongly recommend the place, they know color and work hard, but don't try to go on a Saturday bc they can't put as much time into being detail oriented and clarify who your stylist is if you care read more

Eclipse Salon gets my vote for amazing talent, personality and teamwork. Having moved to SF from across the country, I didn't know where to begin when searching for a stylist and colorist. The Yelp reviews for Eclipse lured me in and my experience was nothing less than amazing. I was in need of the whole gamete in preparation for an upcoming interview. On short notice, Gary fit me in. Gary is amazing. He made me go from brown to platinum hair in a day. I have long fine hair and they stayed perfectly healthy after the process. He has so much knowledge that he just makes it happen. But don't be foolish- my friend had her hair fried at Daly City salon trying to get blonde hair. She had to chop 4 inches! After she came to Gary she walked out with the color she wanted and no added damage. Please don't try to save money when trying to go blonde. For the men that are reading this, I am balding...it sucks, but somehow, Gary makes it look like I still have a pretty good head of hair. Eclipse salon is amazing! After a horrible hair color by another salon (Solid Gold) I was looking for another salon to fix my hair. Gary was able to go out of his way to fit me in the very next day. Before my appointment, he had me text him pictures of my hair so that he could evaluate what needed to be done. He immediately could see why I didn't like my hair and knew what he had to do to fix it. When I came in the next day, Gary and John John looked at my hair and took the time to listen to what I wanted. I showed them pictures and together they discussed what they would do to help me achieve the look. John was the one who ended up coloring my hair and he was great! If I could go for zero stars I would. I went in with a picture of my hair colour I've had previously which was a chocolatey brown colour. As we talked it through I made sure to say I'd rather golden chocolate than a dark colour. After they put the colour on it came out practically black!! I was so upset, only to be told 'oh it will wash out in a week or so!' I haven't got a week or so! If I knew that I wouldn't have got it done. I returned the next day on their request, after washing it at home x5 times, for them to say they think it's the same as the photo its worrying how inaccurate they are - and the lack of apology when a new client is distressed is shocking! After arguing over the fact I hated what they'd done to my hair and it was nothing like we discussed, they gave me half my money back. Obviously this doesn't fix the problem and I will never go back again! read more
