I visited the Gloucester Branch on Saturday 4th March. I was immediately pounced on by a very pushy…read morewoman who followed us round the store despite us saying we did not need any assistance. Constant comments from this woman as we walked and tried out various things was very annoying and quite rude. My mother chose the bed she wanted and asked the lady where to pay. Out of the blue, she was then asked by the assistant if she slept alone. This question to a recently widowed woman was most inappropriate and quite upsetting. We then waited at the are marked "Reception" to place an order to be completely ignored alongside two other parties by an overweight, obnoxious and as it turned out pompous prat. When we asked if someone could help he told us that he did not deal with "public" customers and to find another member of staff. I asked him why it was marked Reception and he said "It needs changing and he only had one pair of hands" We walked out and went to Bensons for Beds who were not only cheaper, much more professional and helpful but they had modern levels of customer service and seemed like they wanted our business. Gloucester AHF is frankly a disgrace and we will not be going here ever again.

When I went half of the store was empty. I assume that they are getting ready to put out the guest as stock even though it was only August. Needless to say I didn't buy anything. Quite pricey and you can get most of what you want for half the cost elsewhere. They do however have a great kitchen shop.

Jeffries is a huge hardware business that stocks all the standard nuts and bolts plus a huge selection of outdoor planting, perfect for this time of year, and has a large gardening section at the rear of the store. Recently I was after some fence protector and after a visit to a huge DIY shop felt frazzled by the choice in products, colours and price. One trip to Jeffries and I got exactly what I needed, no fuss, a great price and I parked my car at the rear of the store to load up. I also recently discovered they do key cutting. They stock a wide selection of pet products. The beauty of this place is that they've always got what you need and know exactly what you are asking for. On the very slim chance they don't stock what you are after they know where you should go to get it. Amazing staff and service.

In summary it's a big hardware store that sells all (or at least most) of the nuts and bolts you need for your home and they have a big garden centre. If they don't have what you want then the staff can tell you where to get it. The shop is mainly for people who want to buy anything to do with DIY for their home. I came in here in search of a few things for home and, I don't mean to offend anybody by stereotyping, as a woman in a hardware store I didn't know where to look first. The staff were friendly and polite enough however to put me in the right direction. If you need any hardware for your home and garden then it's worth giving this store a visit.
