If you're thinking of visiting this place save your money. The tour guide was very disrespectful. He told my wife to shut up & to stop complaining. He did this in front of my 3 kids . He then threatened my wife & myself. The group of tourist couldn't believe the way he was acting. Some of the group left the tour. When we asked for our money back they refused to refund us our money. The 17 year old at the front desk was very unperfetinial & very disrespectful to my entire family. I rather watch paint dry or stick a hot sowing needle in my eye. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MY WORST ENEMY'S. read more

The inside of the caverns are absolutely stunning! I love a good cavern tour and the inside of these caverns did not disappoint! Why the two star rating then? Our tour guide was young and extremely immature. I only have an issue with the latter. He had several buddies on the tour and could barely get a word out for half of the tour because he was laughing, smirking, and carrying on with his friends. While we appreciate humor, it was unprofessional and ruined the tour. We don't mind paying money for things like this, but it was maddening that we paid $60 for this! Hoping management sees this! Tips: Wear sneakers. It's a cave and flip flops are a bad idea! Lots of steps and could be tough for someone out of shape. read more

I had a great experience inside the caverns. I was a little worried about it going in, because based on the reviews, your experience can be pretty hit or miss depending on who your tour guide is. Luckily we had Bill had the experience was fantastic! He was funny and engaging with our entire group, and really seemed to genuinely want everyone there to have the best experience possible. The caverns themselves were really cool. A little bit pricey, but it is what it is. All of the features inside of the cave were really impressive to see, and I really liked the "stories" that Bill told us about certain features inside the caverns and how they came to be. As another reviewer mentioned, definitely bring sneakers or hiking boots. It can get slippery and wet inside the caverns and there were definitely some places where you had to "duck" and dodge some low hanging formations jutting out of the ceiling. Not too bad overall, but just something to be aware of. There are also 72 steps leading down (and, consequently, up) to the cave that have handrails, and yet about a dozen or so stairs inside the cave as well that have a handrailing that you can use. Would definitely recommend this cave for any friends or family travelling in the area and looking for something to do!! read more

We decided to take our little ones to the caverns during our stay in the Lancaster/Hershey area. The caverns are closer to Hershey and about a 45 minute drive from the Dutch Wonderland area. You purchase your tickets inside the gift shop and note that children 2 and under are free. You can also get a coupon by visiting their web site. You will be assigned a group and you basically wait for your group to be called. We had about a 10 minute wait. There is a play ground and some animals (bunnies, goats, chickens) that your little ones can check out while waiting for your tour group to be called. Once your group is called (we had about 25 in our group), you make your way down 71 steps to the entrance of the caverns. You must be able to navigate the steps! Once you step inside, the rest of the tour is pretty much on "flat" ground, other than toward the end where you will have to navigate a few more steps. The tour is about 45 minutes and the stories the guide tells is really meant to entertain the kids a bit more than the adults. That being said, you did also get some interesting facts about the caverns as well and our guide was more than willing to answer any questions we had. Some areas get a little tight on space and adults will have to duck, but it's not that bad. Inside you will see some beautiful rock formations along with a small body of water. They will also turn off the lights at one point in the tour so you can see just how dark it was for the Indians living in here. As they say, it is a cool 52 degrees inside, so bring a light jacket if you are easily cold. It was 90+ degrees outside on the day of our visit, so the cool caverns felt good to us. There is some water dropping from the rocks throughout the caverns so you may get a little wet. No food/drinks/bags allowed inside, but camera are OK. Once the tour is over, you'll have to go back up those 71 steps you initially climbed down! In addition to the gift shop, play ground, and small animals, you can also go mining for gems, play arcade games, and very nearby is miniature golf and an ice cream place. There are also plenty of places to sit and eat if you want to bring your own food. All in all, you could easily spend a few hours here. Parking is free with lots of trees to park under helping to keep your car a bit cooler during the hot summer months. Bathrooms are located outside the gift shop, but note for folks with little ones that there are no changing tables. My two boys (2 and 7) enjoyed their visit, but I will say that my 2-year old (almost 3) was a bit scared in the caverns, especially when they killed the lights. We ended up holding him the entire time, which wasn't entirely fun! The tour guides do appreciate tipping and there is a tip basket at the end of the tour, so you might want to bring some cash with you in preparation. read more

3 for having nice formations. 1 for not taking care of them. I used to belong to the National Speleological Society (look it up, kiddo), and I feel very strongly about cave preservation. What Indian Echo has done to their cave is a shame. They are using the wrong kind of lights, and as a result the walls, which DO have some gorgeous formations, are slowly but surely getting covered with destructive green moss and algae. You CAN have a nicely lit cave, look at the national parks, but Indian isn't doing it. The tour guide was fine. A little too much on the "cutesy" side with "this formation is a DRAGON!!". But, hey, they are only a couple of miles from Hershey so I cut 'em some slack on that. I don't cut them ANY slack on what they've done to the cave itself. read more

The caverns were nice and cool.. the only drawback was that the restroom is in the gift shop which is pretty far from the caverns when you are a 4 year old that has to potty NOW! Luckily the tour was almost over and he is a boy so he just went in the woods. We got them some rock candy and I got some as well in the form of chocolate that went great with my morning coffee.. yum. The caverns were beautiful and there was ample parking. They also have a small petting zoo which my kids went crazy for even though I had to explain to the two youngest ones that the food is for the animals, not to share. They also have a pretty cool play ground where the kiddos can play while you are waiting for the tour. read more

We recently moved to Hummelstown, and so when the family came to visit us for the holidays, we decided to check out Indian Echo Caverns. For me, it was a mixed bag. It's really commercialized-- the entrance to the cave (which probably naturally was a hole in the ground) has been cemented over to be a big half dome doorway. The walkway once inside is lined with pebble rocks, and there are lights drilled up all over the place. And of course since there are lights (not natural for a cave) there is moss growing (also not natural). Kinda depressing to me, but that may just be me. Bottom line: if you've never been in a cave, this one may be worth checking out. Just know that being in an unlit, cement-free, tip-box free cave is an utterly different and far superior experience. read more

The caverns were nice, and the guides (mostly older teens or young adults) seemed knowledgeable, but a bit too scripted. Before your 'tour', you are encouraged to shop the 'gift shop'. Some pretty neat things there (mostly aimed at kids) but a bit pricey. The tour itself seemed pricey to me, but not TOO bad considering there is probably some upkeep. We were the last tour of the day and ended up being the only ones on it, so we got a very personalized tour of the caverns and were able to ask lots of questions. The story of the hermit who lived in the cave for 20 years was particularly fascinating to us, and there's a cheap little chapbook in the giftshop that we purchased that makes for a great quick read. Came here with a group of 2. For some strange reason, we were the ONLY ones there. Just the tour guide and us. I got extremely lucky because he let me bring in my tripod and I got to take my time and snap away at whatever I wanted. He didn't try to rush us at all. We absolutely loved this place because of all the well developed formations (eg flowstone, column, drapery, stalagmites, stalactites, and straws). This cavern in my opinion is better than Luray and definitely better than Howes. I like the lighting that they used in here, basically a warm/yellow light. The other caverns like to use other type of lighting. What I thought was the best part of the trip was the reflection pool. With the right photographic eye you can get a very interesting/engaging photo. The cavern can get a bit chilly so wear a light jacket. Overall, I highly recommend this place. read more

We had a blast at the caverns. We were in the area for other activities, but this was close by so we decided to check it out. So glad we did. The tour was kind of pricey, but our tour guide (Bill) was fantastic. I believe it lasted about an hour, and Bill filled the time by giving knowledgeable descriptions of the rock formations, folklore, and historical facts about the caves. My 8 year old son loved it probably as much as my husband and I, and that's not always an easy thing to achieve. There were much younger kids in our group as well, and they didn't seem to have any trouble that you might expect younger kids to have on an hour long journey through a cave. This was my second visit to this Cavern it is a National Live Nature Treasure. this is not only a nice county view but you can see even the Rock as reflection of God creation. My husband and I just got back from our trip to PA to see this cavern. It was beautiful, albeit a little small in size. (I have been to Luray Cavern in VA - Luray is much bigger). Our tour guide was a senior in high school, but very poised and made it a fun time for most of us. The only complaint I have is NOT due to this facility but rather some patrons in our group. A husband and wife had 3 children that appeared to be1.5, 2.5, and 3.5 years old. They were NOT interested in this field trip. The baby kept screaming the whole time, the older two boys kept putting their hands all over the rocks (which we were asked to refrain from in the beginning). It is almost as if these parents wanted to see this for themselves and dragged their kids there. The floor can be slippery at times, and it is definitely wet down there............this is NO place for a baby or toddler. The fours stars is only because of these hassle of these 5 people. Otherwise, I would give it a a 5. read more

We had a great tour of Indian Echo Caverns that combined history and geology with a bit of imagination and storytelling. Our tour guide, Brennen, was friendly and engaging, and the caverns are quite spectacular. A few notes: wear running shoes or hiking boots, be aware that the ground is a bit uneven and ceilings can be low so folks who may be prone to falling should probably skip the tour. And, a big recommendation - during the school year, apparently the schools tour in the morning and early afternoon; as a result, we called beforehand and decided to tour at 2 pm when the groups had gone through. It was a cave. Not the largest cavern I've been in but it was pretty cool. Tour was an hour long, but it was kinda dragged since the cavern isn't that big. The formations were pretty standard, nothing staggering or mind blowing like at the Luray Caverns in VA. Very cool place to visit if you're in the general area - Hershey or Lancaster... I had never seen caverns before so the rock formations and underground caverns were pretty awesome to see ... The man made steps in the center took away from the natural feel but overall the 45 minute tour and guide were wonderful - she provided humor in her story telling about the early Indian and other settlers, as well as a hermit who lived there for 20 years, pointing out traces of their visits and etchings and fires ... There is also a gift shop with stones and various souvenirs to buy and a little playground and mini petting zoo where you can feed the goats outside. read more

Website hours said till 5.. but it's till 4. Got there on the dot.. had to buy the tour ticket because it was too late to walk around alone. Would've preferred that . The tour was rushed due to time obviously. Couldn't touch anything. Understandable but disappointing. Tour guide was cool, Andres. Lots of info. Wish we would've had a chance to explore more considering we drove almost 4 hours just to walk around with people and manage to snag a couple pix here and there , but not nearly what I wanted or had in mind. Awesome place tho. Nice gift shop with decent prices. Come early. Bring a jacket. The cave inside is beautiful .. absolutely gorgeous . Clean and near pristine. These people are dishonest, rude crooks! Their website does not provide you with the proper information for the tour. We get to the tour guide who proceeds to tell us about 71 stairs. One of our group members has had 3 knee replacements and would be unable to make the journey. We also later found out that there are 4 ft ceilings and small crawl spaces. This information is NOT on their website or any sign in the place. We requested the senior ticket be refunded. They have a no refund policy, so we were upset. They offered a store credit. When I returned to the tour, my husband wanted to know what happened. The tour guide then turned around and berated me that we should have seen the screen. What screen we asked?? There is an information screen in the store, which was conveniently not working that day. The guide ended up threatening me and telling me I better shut up. We left and demanded ALL our money back. They refused. Then they wanted to give us a store credit. We were vacationing. We don't live anywhere near this place. It got so bad, we requested the police come. A good samaritan took the store credit and gave us the cash back. We didn't even get to see the caverns. This place left a bad taste in my mouth. As a business, you were in the wrong. You should have owned up to your mistake and refunded all of our money. You never provided the service, therefore you don't get to keep the money. I will never recommend your business for the simple fact that you are dishonest crooks. read more

Beware! I almost never write a one star - "terrible" - review, but Indian Echo Caverns merits one for a deceptive practice. Anyone thinking of going there should know, and the administration there does not warn you, that getting in and, more importantly out, of the cave requires dealing with 75 very steep stairs. Any body with mobility/heart/lung, etc. problems might find it impossible or inadvisably risky to make the necessary climb. There is no warning before you buy your non-refundable ticket about the stairs. I did not hear about them until the guide cautioned about them at the beginning of the tour. When I went back to the ticket desk to protest, the ticket seller claimed he must of forgotten to say something but usually did. I had waited in line to buy a ticket and could here him talk to two or three people in front of me, and when I waited again in line to protest, I heard him talk to several other ticket buyers. Not once did he mention the stairs. Moreover, I lingered a bit and he refused to give me a refund and listened, as he also said nothing about the stairs to the next two people behind me when they bought tickets. So the ticket seller's excuse was, in my view, untrue. And while there was a prominent "no refunds" sign, there was nothing posted about the stair. That is also true in the caverns' Website, where you can purchase tickets (also non refundable). Also worth mentioning is that when I did ask for a refund, there was a manager next to the ticket seller behind the counter. She heard what I said to the seller and confirmed that they were not willing to refund the price of ticket. Clearly, the management is more worried about taking in money than their guests' health. Shame on them. read more

I really enjoyed my visit to the indian echo caverns. there is a little petting zoo! the coin operated food dispensers are out of order all the time! but if u shake the little handle back and forth it gives u a litttle food. try letting the goats eat out of you hands. the caverns were beautiful1 if u touch those little pointy rocks they stop growing and if u r caught it costs u 1000 dollars!if u r afraid of dark they have good lighting! read more
