Haven't shopped at Ecco in years but needed a last minute formal dress for an event. I have had previous positive experiences so popped in coming back from school. There were a large number of employees working... but no one seemed interested in my presence in the store. The employees were more interested in talking to each other than helping me. Over 15 minutes of browsing before even a hello (I know this because I didn't have my parking meter long). Someone finally asked if I needed help but at that point I felt so uncomfortable I shopped around myself. When I finally found a dress that would fit my event it was covered in wrinkles. When I asked the employee about how to get them out she tried to say it was just the fabric. I explained there were multiple dresses hung, same fabric, no wrinkles. She admitted it looked like it hadn't even been steamed. She offered to steam it, but I was shocked it was on the rack like that. No one was nice and it seemed like I was an inconvenience to their socializing. The sole purpose of shopping in store is for the experience and customer service- neither of which existed. Nice selection, spacious store, and obviously an ideal location...but for boutique prices, the staff should be a little more knowledgeable/helpful. I bought a dress here that seemed flattering even though the straps were way too long. Of course, the girls working that day all assured me it looked gorgeous and would be an easy fix. They recommended a few tailors in the area and suggested I could even try making the adjustments myself, even though I'm not much of a seamstress. Later I went online just to comparison shop (turns out the dress is available elsewhere for cheaper, but not in my size) and in the process realized that I was wearing it entirely wrong...it does a kind of funky wrap thing, which explains the 10" of leftover fabric. If a store is going to charge hundreds of dollars for a dress, shouldn't someone working there know how to display it and help others try it on, or at least pause before recommending hacking the thing to pieces? It seems like they're just on auto-pilot to say "yea, yea, looks great" but don't really know anything about clothes. Which is to be expected at, like, H&M...but not someplace charging these prices! read more

I bought a pair of jeans at Ecco on Church Street. Within 10 days the hem was coming unstitched. I brought them back for a refund, which they claim is within the exchange period. However, because the told me the jeans were defective I needed to wait to get a replacement pair if they got reimbursed by the manufacturer. This is the worst "customer service". Don't shop here unless you like throwing your money away and not being taken care of as a customer. They should have exchanged these jeans out for a new pair right away, apologized for my inconvenience and given me a 20% off coupon to return another day. read more

I went Ecco to check out the jean selection; I had great service and was having such a blast trying things on, I bought 2 pair for myself and a pair for my husband! The new location is HUGE and has all of the great jeans and tops the old store had, but in a much better layout. The salespeople are very helpful - I told them what kind of jeans I was looking for and they went around and pulled about ten pairs for me to try on. The shirt brands they carry are obviously very expensive, but if you are looking for james perse, michael stars, velvet, or ella moss you will have a great selection here. Good selection of designer jeans, designer casual clothes, and evening wear. I've shopped here since I was in high school (so about a decade now) when they were in their previous smaller location, and the service used to be so much better 10 years ago; of course, they've replaced the sales girls with cheaper, younger versions. Most of the time, the sales associates won't bother to help you and if they do, it's all really catty. If they bother to pay you a compliment, it is super fake. I'm giving 3 stars because it's a decent selection, but not really worth it. I don't even bother coming here to try on the jeans anymore; I'd rather spend more time waiting for my Nordstrom order and give my money to a big corporation than give it to Ecco. I always try to shop local, but not if it's to a store that makes me feel like that scene in Pretty Woman. Edit/update as of Jan 2015: Still bad customer service. read more

The staff is a bit snooty, but there's a good selection of clothing here, nice sweaters, a lot of dresses, some jewelry. Saw a very cute BCBG dress but unfortunately they only had a size S. I found the limited sizing trend to continue as I browsed around the store. (Does no one have boobs nowadays?) The sale section left a lot to be desired (think prom leftovers). The prices are high ($150+ sweaters, $100+ button-downs, easily $200+ for dresses), but the store definitely has a better brand selection (J Brand, Michael Stars, the aforementioned BCBG) than a lot of the other boutiques on Church Street. But I would definitely price-check these items elsewhere, as things are pretty clearly marked-up here. There's a fine line between wanting to support a local business and feeling ripped off. read more

The clothes are cute but, as other reviews have said, the return policy and customer service is not so cute. Today I tried to return a pair of shorts that were literally bought the day before with the receipt, tag still on and never worn. I was looked at like I was crazy and told rudely that I could return the shorts for store credit. Ok. I calmly asked when they told customers about this policy and where it was posted as I haven't heard of such an archaic policy for years. This one snobby girl working there with blonde hair said that it's been their policy for 20 years like everyone should know. I'm not from here so... how would I know? Honestly, the girls who work here give off a vibe of washed up girls who were cool in high school and are now past their prime and enjoy being rude to others. Um I did nothing to you other than spend 500+ dollars on your overpriced and overrated clothes. Lesson learned. I will take my business elsewhere and I would recommend you do the same. read more

This store has an absurd return policy of only ten days (and that's for an exchange, not a refund, which they don't give at all!). The manager told me my husband shouldn't have bought me a gift from her store if he wasn't positive I'd like it. Seriously? We'll do you one better and just not ever shop here again. read more

A HUGE shout out to the amazing team at Ecco! Each time I walk into the store I am immediately greeted and treated to amazing service! The last few times I have shopped I have worked with Bonnie who has a fantastic eye for fashion while remaining respectful of my own personal style and comfort zone. She has helped me to select everything from flattering denim (the selection of brands and styles is impressive) to the perfect basic t-shirt and blazer! I have tried the online programs that advertise a personal stylist but found the process frustrating and overpriced. The team at Ecco offer this personal stylist experience at no cost AND you get to shop in a beautiful store with a variety of brands, styles and prices to fit every occasion and every budget. So I saw a really cute vest here by Ya Los Angelos for 98 dollars, I wanted it but it was a bit to0 pricey. I walked across the street to check out Bella and Stella Boutiques. At Bella I found THE EXACT SAME vest, same company, same size, same color for 38.95. I was absolutely shocked. I have been to Ecco multiple times since then and have seen the exact same products for a fifth of the price at different stores on Church st. In my opinion, that is just stealing and Ecco should be ashamed of themselves. Also their dressy dresses look like bridesmaid dresses. Or Prom dresses from 1998. Except 100X the price. read more

The store is in a great location on Church Street however that is the only positive I can find. The customer service is absolutely horrific. I'm not sure why the staff feels that they are better than everyone else. There is such a feeling of superiority that it made me sick and was so disheartening. Like other reviewers that have experienced the rude and snotty customer service of Ecco, I took my money elsewhere. They have great selection of jeans and dresses but they are overpriced for sure. Shop around, use your money to support businesses that understand the customer is actually to be treated with kindness and respect. I would imagine that the Ecco followers, if there is actually such a thing are also insecure, mean, snotty human beings. I'd like to think that places with such horrible customer service will fade away and be replaced with goodness. read more

Came back into the area for a visit and am entirely impressed with the new store. Great selection of jeans-tops-dresses and a sweet, but not over-the-top staff make Ecco a great store. Of special note is Ecco carrying these SUPER-CUTE hair ties- I believe they're from a company called Alex and Isabelle Hairties- they support a local charity and are so unique and fun! ECCO has nice clothes but is quite overpriced. Especially for Burlington area. I wouldn't really buy things here. A regular cotton shirt can be like 80 bucks and they never really have good sales. They do have cute jewelry though and the girls that work there are very helpful and sweet. read more

I would rate Ecco at minus 1 star if I could, they sell you items from previous years or they buy at auction. I am not a size 0 but I do have plenty of money to shop with. I live in the town and just felt like being a tourist for the day- stopping into stores that I have never explored. I should have listened to my soul when I was ignored by the young immature girls standing around trying to pretend they were busy for about 15 minutes. But I wanted some help so I tolerated it. When I left I spent a lot of money. When I looked at my receipt I was over charged for items I purchased. I went online to name brands I bought and not one item is currently being sold. The items they sell you are over priced either bought at auction or clearance and sold to us as new items. They are a ripoff and are thieves. read more

I hate to do this, because I know how a negative review can damage a stores reputation, but I have to let others know about my experience. Hands down this was the absolute worst customer service experience I have ever had. I went in to the store the other week, not looking for anything particular. I was enamored by the gorgeous dress in the window and asked if I could try it on, and the sales associate basically insinuated that the dress would be too small for me, which immediately made me feel badly about my appearance. I went back to browsing and asked another sales associate about a necklace and she stated that it was "really expensive" as if to say I couldn't afford it. Needless to say I left without buying anything and went right to Monelle and proceeded to spend about $500 that Ecco could have gotten if the women were not absolutely intolerable. I have been in the retail industry for years and have learned to never assume what a customer will spend. If I ever acted to my customers the way these ladies acted I would be fired, and rightfully so. Since I am clearly not the only person who thinks the employees are snotty and rude, maybe management needs to take a look into this situation. If you stop into Ecco, plan to be judged. They treat people based on what they look like. I recently bought something for over 250.00, yes they are pricey and when I went to exchange because it was defective within the 10 day limit I was asked to step outside by Lara the owner. Oddly I stepped outside where I was accused of stealing it. I couldn't understand, I asked why she would say that when I had the receipt and she slapped her hands in my face and threatened to get a no trespass on me. I am a local and was humiliated. After sending a friend in with the receipt they still wouldn't exchange it and even tried to keep the item and receipt until they could contact the company. Tourists beware; they sell defective merchandise knowing that you will not have the ability to exchange your items! read more

To start with,I love the new location. The place is vast and things are well placed. What I particularly loved about this place is their denim range. You will find that perfect pair of jeans. You'll find Citizens of humanity, Paige, AG and Rich n Skinny for your denims. Their collection of shirts is also exceptionally nice but comes with an expensive tag. You will find james perse, michael stars, velvet, or ella moss, all under one roof. Though I found their dress collection ultra prom-ish. Not exceedingly appealing. The staff is good and helpful. If you are a shoes person, you can choose from casual slip-on sneakers by Toms and flip-flops by Havianas to formal dress shoes from Chinese Laundry and boots from Steven Madden. I have never had a worse experience in any store in any city. The staff was incredibly rude, snickering about customers who looked like they were from out of town or who were asking questions about the clothes. I was insulted myself and for every other person in the store. At one point the store clerk got into a fight with one of the customers prompting all other people in the store to leave. Who needs it. Thanks to everyone at Ecco especially the shop owner! They went above and beyond for me. I was in Vermont for holidays and I got a dress for my wedding there but it wasn't the right size.
