So move on to the Arch. It boasts an award winning chef so I'm always going to get a tad excited about weighing up their credentials. Maybe it's because I'm British and we like to knock down those who fly high but I must admit I couldn't really find any grumbles on this one. The starters are fine dining at its best without being overly pretentious. For the main I had a very nice risotto but you've got all the main players such as steak and fish. My only gripe is and this isn't exclusive to here, why call gravy jus? Come on people don't complicate the matter, it's gravy. Right rant over. As for deserts, the cheese board is excellent. You'll also get some local cheeses on the plate as well as French offerings. Three courses for just under £17 seems a fair price to me as well although you will pay supplements on that for some of the dishes. Good food and a hoorah from me.

Three courses will set you back £16.95 with two courses costing £14.50 with a two pound supplement on Saturday and because I am feeling pleasant today I am not going to go on a tirade about that. Book in advance for a special occasion.

For a start it's a nice building and is done out well. The reason I like it though is because it's got quite a bit to offer. They are really doing their bit for the local and underground music scene and still have live gigs on most weekends. That has to be commended so I am. You'll get everything from blues to folk. Worth a punt even if the genre isn't essentially your thing. Next up the beer is good. Oh yes, we're talking good casks and local too. Fancy a sip from a Leeds, Skipton, Sheffield, York, Ossett or Saltaire brewer? Then no problemo, my amigo. You'll also find Tetley's and John Smiths too. Aint half bad lad. As for the grub, it's proper pub food here. We're talking roasts, burgers and lighter bites at lunch too. Never going to win prizes for originality but you've gotta love some pub food as it should be at times. Don't be fooled, this is a pub. It's not a bar but we like it for it.

At some point or other you can do all of these here and you'll always have the option of some great ales. Black Sheep is one of the regular ales which I rarely see past but there are normally 3 guest ales too. It can be very busy in the Vault when there's a game on but the bar is usually well staffed. The food is good, very traditional but good and there's plenty of room to sit down if you're eating.

The building is out of this world. It's a grand affair and dates back to the mid to late nineteenth century. You'll be impressed as soon as you see it from the outside. That's always a good start. Once you're in, it doesn't disappoint. I'm in love with the huge roaring real fire and could quite happily stay there for hours on end. The service is fantastic too and it's a great atmosphere in a beautiful building. As for the food, well it's good old decent stuff and the price is more than reasonable. I wouldn't say it's out of this world, unlike the location, but that's mainly because it belongs to a chain. You've got real ales to sink into as well and a fab wine list. You know I love my wine and this doesn't disappoint. All in all this is one pub that you really must get to. Is that clear enough for you. Brilliant.

That was a good few years ago though. However, THIS time... the log fire was perfect to warm Ma W's bones and the whole atmosphere was lovely. I've knocked a star off because their food is quite pricey for pub dinners and when i asked whether their apple was homemade, a resounding "no" was heard... is any of it not shop bought? "ummm.... the crumble". ok. i'll have that. It was ok. mine is better. It's worth looking on their website as they do have offers 241s etc and I joined their mailing list and got a free glass of wine ahem 10minutemail.com ahem

Wetherby Whaler Fish Restaurant - GF Fish, Chips and Sausage

Wetherby Whaler Fish Restaurant

Wetherby Whaler is a fish-and-chip restaurant and takeaway with six locations around Yorkshire…read more After hearing they offered gluten-free fish and chips, I decided to try out their Pudsey location and was reasonably impressed. The concept is a little different to the traditional British chippy, as they have two areas, a restaurant area and a takeout area, this is where things get a little confusing as despite coming from the same kitchen, the menu is slightly different in both areas. The main difference is to dine in, they serve fish, chips and a hot drink or cordial as a meal, rather than separately, I guess this is just to get the cost up to pay for the dining area and the wages of the waiters etc. I originally entered the restaurant area but was put off by the pricing, it would have cost almost £15 for my fish and chips, and then an extra £13 for the sausage, as it seemed it was impossible to order a sausage on its' own etc by the menu, meanwhile the takeout area would serve fish, chips and a sausage, for not much over £10. A much better deal! PRO TIP: There is a customer parking lot around the back of their building, order take out to customise your order to your liking (and save money) and eat it in the car. Gluten-free is available on a fresh, the staff were well trained to explain how their allergen processes work, and they explained that despite using a separate frier, they can not 100% guarantee due to gluten being handled in the environment, they also explained the sides I could and could not have such as the curry sauce being made without gluten, but as it is made off-site, they would not advise me to have it, as again it would be possible to have been contaminated. The staff also seemed friendly, in letting me borrow a knife and fork, so I could eat the food in my car. Extra touches to minimise cross-contamination included the kitchen applying salt (gluten-free vinegar also an option) for me, to avoid using the communal one which the regular customers would use. My food was pretty good, while not the best fish and chips I've certainly had, it was a great value and tasty meal, the batter was crispy, and the sausage was particularly good, I would have preferred cod to haddock but again the quality was good, and it was hot and fresh, without being too greasy. Friendly staff, good prices in the takeout area, some improvements to be made sure, but I would return. 4*

As you may anticipate from the name this restaurant is distinctly fishy with haddock, plaice, scampi (my Nanna's favourite) and prawn a plenty you'd scarcely believe that there's over fishing in the seas. There's a vegetarian option/dish of the day and a 3 coursed senior citizens special coming in at £6.65 for 3 whole courses. A traditional chippy with booze available.
