To be fair, we were a pretty easy audience and they had a few well-qualified individuals helping us, but they certainly went above and beyond to explain function, form, fit, and cost for our helmets and climbing harnesses, as well as carabiners and tethers. Renting Mountaineering Boots, crampons and ice axe - this was also deceptively easy the first two times, so I was a bit surprised the third time, when they had boots and cramps, but didn't have a rental ice axe on a Thursday. As a nube, I didn't know we were right in the middle of climbing season. I spent about 15 minutes at the climbing desk with Sven(?) and purchased the correct axe for the climb. Sven was super knowledgeable and listened well, which bodes well when safety and efficiency are such a big deal on the mountain. Shopping for a belay parka - I want to sneak up on this, because it may well be a $500 purchase, if and when I pull the trigger. The associate was willing to spend concerted time with me, even when I admitted I was just looking for information. He explained the different fabrics and fills and construction, and talked through the options. Layers, a puffy, and a rain coat have been sufficient so far for me, and he affirmed the belay parka was for specific usage. Still, I will likely purchase it here as opposed to on-line if/when the time comes. I have needed extra carabiners, waterproofing spray, and a sit pad, and the staff has always been knowledgeable and attentive. Good job, Mountain Shop!

We came in before winter and took advantage of their season long ski rentals for my two 7 y/o daughters. Service was prompt, and they had everything we needed, boots, skis, poles for a very affordable early bird value. I'm going to say it was no more than $175 per girl. 2nd. Had the privilege of working with Rob in the ski boots department and he was amazing. He was very kind, knowledgeable, and took his time explaining the process along with any potential costs along the way to avoid any potential surprises. I'd hands down recommend checking out mountain shop in both of these areas. You won't be disappointed.

Her combination of practical skills coupled with interesting ways to remember the various steps of a repair was amazing. Before the class, I had inexpertly fiddled with my bike, unwilling to waste money at bike shops - with her help I renovated my bike to the point where it rides better than it has for years. In addition, she helped me source appropriate parts and provided guidance as to what needed to be done and what could be left well alone. Her teaching style was incredibly open and relaxed, making this a very non threatening experience. I cannot recommend this highly enough and wish I had discovered Gracie's Wrench earlier.

I love Cobra irons! I wanted to get a new set of clubs because I thought technology would help me keep up with my son. I told Ben to just hand me clubs and not to worry about brand. I want whatever fits my swing, giving me more distance and accuracy. He did just that and my irons through driver all came out to be Callaway Mavriks. Ben set the clubs up to my specs and just yesterday, from the tees right under the back tees, I shot a 77. I have been targeting my clubs in at the range and wow....they hit accurate, with ease and give me distance. The shafts are the key!! I kiss my clubs all the time now because from 230 out, I have a chance to hit the green with ease! Thanks Ben! You have a convert in me. You made the whole fitting process easy and with all your expertise, you didn't make me feel like a dummy. Appreciate all you did. If I were you, I would run to his trailer and get fitted! I gave Ben and Jason a call to talk through what I was looking for. They were both super helpful and answered every question I had. Their attention to detail was just exemplary and confirmed every detail with me, including the type of ferrule I wanted on the clubs. I've had clubs custom fitted and made before, but these guys are in a class of their own. I know I will be making equipment changes in the future, and I can't wait to work with Ben and Jason again! While I don't live near where they operate, I'm very tempted to make a trip for a full fitting! Thanks Ben and Jason! The clubs look and feel great, and thanks for accommodating all of my requests.

I enjoyed taking sewing classes here and the rest of my classes were awesome. I learned so much from several fantastic teachers and I am so grateful for that. The school founder is also an amazing and inspiring human being. I ultimately dropped out because the registration office continuously made my life very difficult. I understand this is a small school but the errors made at my expense were unacceptable. One of my terms, I was over charged on my tuition by several hundred dollars. When I came to the office to ask questions about the newly raised cost, Candice made it overwhelmingly difficult to get answers. My inquiry was not even taken seriously and I was falsely assured multiple times that the amount due was correct when it was not. I finally stitched together all the evidence and showed her how it didn't add up and finally I was taken seriously and it turned out that I was in fact correct. Another term, I was emailed the wrong start time/date for one of my classes. When I logged on to start my class, I quickly learned that I missed the actual class time and was marked absent. On the school website it showed multiple times/dates for that same class so when I reached out to Candice to clear that up, she insisted it was my fault because I should have looked at the website's calendar and not gone off of the email that she sent me... Many times when I would reach out for answers, I had to be very aggressive to get a fraction of an answer. It became a major hassle which led to my distrust and my decision to drop out. Multiple students during my time at PFI and alumni I have met afterward have mentioned the same issues or similar happening with them. I felt it was necessary to share this information for prospective students.

I brought in the hub and rim, and Stoic Wheels took care of cutting and measuring the spokes -- they had it done within an hour. The communication throughout the process was excellent. This was only the second wheel I've ever built, so I had a lot of questions. Brian was incredibly patient and thoughtful, taking the time to walk me through everything. When I started lacing the wheel, I kept breaking nipples. I came back in, and Brian took a look, quickly identified that I was lacing it incorrectly, and spent 15 minutes clearly explaining how to fix the issue. Thanks to his help, I was able to finish the wheel -- and it turned out great. Portland is lucky to have a shop like Stoic Wheels.

Well, that happened to us last week. We were heading down Burnside and my wife's manual wheelchair caster hit a crack just wrong and it got knocked sideways. He took time to carefully assess the damage, suggested a course of action, and then fixed it right up. Brian could not have been nicer or more helpful and he really saved our day (and a lot of stress, inconvenience, the cost of an Uber home, arranging repair, and more).
