Eastmont Town Center is the "new name" (a decade ago) for the Eastmont Mall which went bankrupt in 2000. the death of the Mall was a tell for the mall biz, not just "ghetto" ones. malls in every economic statra in America has been in decline for years, if not decades. is Amazon the suspect in the disintegration of the malls? -being neither a mall shopper nor an amazon one, can't tell u. vacate space here has been rented for city, county, police, and semipublic services with a few retail adventurous retailers remaining. original investors probably lost $$. i neither cry nor cheer for the results this is how pure capitalism works. not factoring in crony capitalism, the preferred brand for elites, connected "businessman", evangelists, and politicians. read more

I scheduled an appointment with JC Penney Home Decorating. Scheduled an in-home appointment for custom window coverings. Waited weeks for the appointment. The decorator "Clara" who was assigned called an hour before the appointment and canceled. She said she was in her call and couldn't talk, but said she would call me to reschedule. I assumed she would call the same day. Instead, she called me 4 days later. I called and complained to Penneys. A "manager" called me back and left a voice mail message saying "Clara" is the only employee in the East Bay. We bought our house 29 years ago and Penneys sold us window coverings for the whole house. Years later we hired them again to replace most of the first original ones. Now I will never hire Penneys again. There employees are totally unreliable and the company just doesn't care about being in this business. read more

This mall has a Planned Parenthood in it. Enuff said OK... bet here's is where I geek out a bit. Considering the conditions and the neighborhood, I'm not sure if it's such a good thing. Places like this perpetuate a disenfranchised community... but carry out resources as well. Sociologist William Julius Wilson saw structures like this as remnants of a more prosperous past. He theorizes that communities only cycle into states of disrepair such as this due to the expatriation of more affluent community members to ........... But I digress. Eastmont Mall - Shopping Centers Near Me - Oakland, California

It's a nice mall and I like the few stores there. It's sad that the area is considered not the safest so have to be careful l. A lot of people coming and going so I think as long as there is crowd around it should be ok. Gazelle is a nice and clean grocery store with great prices and nice people working there. I think it's great place for shooing and I hope safety in Oakland improves soon in Oakland. read more

It is sad to witness the steady decline of a once prosperous mall. It now consists of government, county, and police offices instead of the big-name stores they had in the 80's. The "mall" is usually not very crowded. There are some nearby stores like DD's Discounts and Rainbow clothes which offer a great assortment of affordable wares. The food court, using the term loosely, has a couple of very basic food options. The one small oasis in this mall is the public library, which has a great assortment of books and videos. At times, some patrons are a little loud e.g. on their cell phone, etc... and the staff may intervene OR they may ignore the behavior to the disadvantage of those who want a quiet library-like environment. read more

This place only gets two stars because of my fond memories growing up and going there when it use to be "eastmont mall", but now its not even a mall. There's nothing spectacular about this place and I wouldn't go out of my way to check it out. Its good for the neighboring community because I think it provides health services now. read more

I remember this place. I used to come here back in the 80's (I can actually say this) with my sisters and mom to watch movies and check out the stores...Woolworth was here back then. Sadly, this mall had trouble maintaining itself as one and died sometime in the 90's all the stores that filled it's halls are now replaced with nothing spectacular. I haven't been back in ages, but its good to know that this place is doing something good for the community by providing health services. read more

i have so many childhood memories of this place this used to be a great mall it had mervyns jc pennys woolworth the four star theater we used to watch movies here all the time they also had a food court i remember the chinese food place the mexican burrito stand the popcorn stand h johns and orange julius also many other stores like t wuazis the record store they had a toy store up stairs foot locker there was once a store called consumers and they also had a safeway and thriftys at one time ... now it,s sad what happened to this place i was there recently and every thing is gone inside it,s empty except for the welfare offices planned parenthood the nutrition store for wic and the opd station the only stores left is ganzzalis grocery store and dd,s discount and rainbow and a small shoe store eastmont started going down hill in the mid 90s and hasn,t been able to recover ..... read more

Eastmont Town Center is a great resource for parents of young children. They can enroll their children in the Eastmont Head Start, read books to them at the Eastmont Branch of the Oakland Public Library, sing to them as the dentist cleans their teeth at the Eastmont Wellness Center, buy them fruit at the Prime Time Store that accepts WIC vouchers, take them to the pediatrician for check-ups at the Eastmont Wellness Center, pick up their medication prescriptions at Apothecary Pharmacy, take them grocery shopping at Gazzali's and buy them a toy at DD's Department Store before boarding the bus at the AC Transit Hub to return home. Let's show community pride by patronizing the social services, health services and retail outlets and not littering. read more

I am not from Oakland, or the Bay area for that matter. I only know of Eastmont because a friend and classmate of mine is the Dental Clinic Director at the Dental Clinic in Eastmont. She has persuaded me to drive over 150 miles 2-3 times a month to Volunteer at the clinic. I am a Dentist with a successful private practice in Northern California. Volunteering at this community clinic is a real eye opener. There is a tremendous need, especially in the current economy. The patients I treat are very appreciative and quite frankly pretty neat people. I feel like I am making a difference in their lives and I leave feeling very positive about my experiences there. It is always sad to see an icon like the Eastmont Mall fail and fall into disrepair. But what the community leaders in Oakland have done with this place is fantastic. This place has been resurrected and serves a very useful purpose providing access to health care that otherwise might not be available. Coodos to those that had the vision to make this what it is today, those that maintain it, and especially to those that provide the care that this community desperately needs. Stephen A. Its NOT a mall anymore. I remember when Eastmont opend back in 65. One of the owners was Al Davis, GM of the Raiders. It was too divine. Safeway grocery and Pay n Save Drug (later on Thrifty)on the outside and insideman... Penneys, Woolworths, grodins, Smiths mens clothiers, Roos Atkins(yeah Im going there!) Kristines, New york fabric, hallmark Cards, India Imports, gallenkamp, kinney and burts shoe stores, other little boutiques, the wig shop (which I understand is STILL there!) the Eastmont 4 theatre then later on mervyns. So now you have a shell of a mall... inhabited by the dialysis clinic, the welfare office, the police dpartment, the library and a whole host of non mall establishments.It should just be called the center. damn shame. but hey the community could have, should have demanded but they didnt.They just went along with the okee doe. it is what it is but what it once was ... well, was something grand! read more

malls all over have been closing their doors for good or sitting in disrepair with a couple sad storefronts inside, and the eastmont mall has figured out how to not be a waste of space. i started coming here to go to the eastmont wellness center. i go to the dr, and then he gives me referrals to many other drs (dental, women's clinic, blood work, optometry) that are all in the same building! too bad i usually don't have time to go everywhere and set up my appointments. next time i'll make sure to have the whole day free and i'll stop into the public library to take out a book to read during my waits. i think what they did with the space is really nice. i would give it 5 stars but being close to the OPD makes it uncomfortable. read more

You Cant be from Oakland and not know about Eastmont mall..from the people driving up to the bank instead of parking and getting out their cars from a descent parking space like normal people to the thousand and one different grocery stores they put there. To the Food court with the Chinese people who fried that good ass chicken to the parking lot pimping that slowly died over time, to the loud people who just got they Ebt cards refilled and hitting up Rainbo and DD's for that quick fit for the weekend. People walking in front of cars daring you to hit them if they are walking to slow or how about the flashy cars with the latest e-40 beat playing for the whole parking lot to hear. I have so many memories like soul beat being there and beeper city to the dollar movies to hang at on a lazy Saturday. But most of all i remember as l little girl walking in the mall with my mom and smelling that carmel popcorn, wow i kinda want some now lol..I love Eastmont mall to this day and it will always remain town bizz for life! read more

after discovering that eastmont is on yelp (good lookin' out n-meezy), how could i not write something? growing up only a mile away, i made several trips down 73rd to hit up the mall during my formative years. some highlights: 1. going to jc penney's to get an easter suit and coming out fitted. 2. family outing to the movies to see look who's talking. 3. lining up outside footlocker around 5-6am to get the space jam jordans, and then wondering if the two dudes following me after i bought 'em were gonna get me for my kicks. sad to see what it's become, but five stars for the fond memories... read more

Personally, I like it. They have a lot of social services here. I don't really think of it as dangerous as people are saying. Sometimes there are characters that may be edgy. Generally I am left alone and respected, though I was perved on a couple of times by the elevator. It's urban life, what more can you say? read more
