Eastern Shore Hyundai & Toyota - Dishonest Sales Tactics & No Accountability I recently purchased a 2016 Mini Cooper Convertible from Eastern Shore Hyundai and Toyota, and this has been the worst car-buying experience I've ever had. I was repeatedly assured by my salesperson, Anthony Fagan, that the vehicle was in excellent condition and well cared for. That turned out to be far from the truth. Day 2 of ownership: The battery died, and I had to pay $280 for AAA to replace it. A dead battery that soon after purchase raises serious concerns about the so-called "great condition" of this car. Serious Transmission Warning Ignored: Before buying, I noticed a message on the dash stating, "Transmission: Secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult service center." I asked Anthony about it, and he brushed it off as a "standard message for Minis" because "they like the e-brake on when parked." That was a blatantly ignorant response. Once I took the car home and actually read the full warning, it was clear this was a serious issue. When I reached out, Anthony initially told me the dealership would take care of it and provide a rental. That quickly changed when I spoke to the service department. The service manager refused to fix it, claiming I bought the vehicle as is. The sales manager told me to figure out the problem myself first. After investigating, I discovered the warning was due to dangerously low brake fluid. How did this car pass inspection? * The battery was completely dead after one day. * The brake fluid was almost empty, which is a major safety issue. * A transmission warning was displayed even before I bought it. This was the third vehicle I've purchased from this dealership, and I've referred multiple people to them in the past. But that ends today. This dealership clearly prioritizes quick sales over customer safety and trust. No Accountability & Deceptive Paperwork: * Anthony stopped responding to me completely. * Sales manager Mani is friendly but just tells you what you want to hear with no follow-through. * The service manager couldn't care less. * They claim I purchased the car as is, yet there is no signed documentation confirming this in my paperwork. A blank form in my glove box suggests they were supposed to disclose this, but it was never completed or presented to me. Had I been told this was an as is sale, I would have asked to see all of the service documents on the vehicle and asked about an extended warranty. I even emailed Darrick Heath before buying, outlining concerns about purchasing a used vehicle. Instead of transparency, they saw my questions as an opportunity to make an easy sale, yet they never even attempted to sell me an extended warranty. I've attached screenshots of that email as well. Darrick was the only honest person I interacted with, but everyone else at this dealership is a snake in the grass. I would never buy another car here again, nor will I recommend them to anyone. I took my 2013 Santa Fe in for service a couple of weeks ago. Excellent customer service and service on my car. I do recommend!

My wife has been a Hyundai person since they came to the US, the one we have now is her 6th Hyundai and it's a great vehicle with all the whistles and bells. No it's not stupid electric or crazy self driving because that's not whistles or bells, to me, that red flags and sirens :-) Not happening in this grumpy old dude's lifetime, but I digress :-) We didn't buy our Sante Fe Sport here but there was a security software upate needed so we brought it here for that service. We had a great service experience from phone call to drive out. The communications were outstanding, the staff was friendly and accommodating and very professional. The waiting area was comfortable with complimentary coffee and refreshments. There's also charging stations for phones and computer station as well. The whole facility was very clean and organized with friendly faces everywhere. Of course we are Hyundai customers and potential buyers so there's that ;-) Bottom line: Overall the service experience was efficient and pleasant, I would return. read more

After buying a new car, 2 months ago, I used my old car for trade. I still owed on old car, balance was added to new car. I am driving the new car, my old car still hasn't been paid off. The old car hasn't been paid off and is delinquent for 2 months. I have sat waiting to talk to loan officer several different times, to no avail. They won't take my calls and I have not made a payment on the new car because I have no place to make the payment to and no amount to send. So I guess I need a lawyer! read more

Hands down the worst experience buying a truck. I signed a paper saying out the door price was 17,965, with a $2000 down payment, when signing papers he went through them very fast not allowing me to see much, only showing me where to sign. when I got home and looked through it all again, turns out I paid $20,000+, to say the least I wasn't too happy but I got the truck I wanted. After the initial time signing papers and getting my truck, I had to return 3 more separate times over a month and a half, to sign the same papers each time. swearing it would only take 5 minutes, i had to wait 1 1/2 hours each time. The best of it all, fast forward a couple months later, turn out they sold me a truck with a bad transmission. $6960.25 is what I was quoted to get it fixed, thankfully I got a warranty on the drive train. all in all, don't go to Eastern Shore Hyundai. they are shady and slimey. read more

Great experience with the staff as they were very helpful and attentive. The building doesn't have vending machines which I feel would be extremely beneficial because if you are buying a car you are there in that building for a very long time. The management was top notch and explained everything as we went along. We were there to sell my car back to them because we are moving. Had a check engine light come on my 2021 Hyundai Kona and I am under lease so I had to take it in to the service department. They first told me that there was a motor issue and that it would be 3-4 weeks until it is fixed. A week later I come back and ask about the status of my car. They said they lost the ticket and the part needed wasn't even ordered yet. Then they turn around and state it is an engine issue and that the engine would need to be replaced. It has been 3 weeks now and every time we call we are put on hold for 20 minutes and the call disconnects. We've emailed staff members and have left voicemails with multiple representatives. Nobody has gotten back to us. During the whole process, we've been fighting to get a loaner vehicle. Looks like it takes an arm and leg to get a loaner. We get a loaner for less than a week and return it. They state they have no other loaners to give us, then give us the exact loaner we were just using. They state they will no longer let us have a loaner car and we will have to pay for a rental. They refuse to cover the cost of the rental although THIS CAR IS A LEASE AND WE DO NOT OWN IT! Under the contract, they are responsible for all repairs and maintenance needed. If our car is not in condition to drive, they are responsible for providing us a car. Again, this is a lease and we do not even own this car! Why should we be paying a monthly lease payment of a car WE DON'T EVEN HAVE? Situation: my daughter's 2017 Hyundai veloster needs a new engine. I was told by service that most likely Hyundai would pay for most or worst case part of the engine when I agreed to pay $600 to diagnose the issue. Hyundai corporate refused and the reason was not our fault, but the fault of the one previous owner. Tameron in Daphne told us it was a certified used vehicle and in this process I learned it was not. We had an extended warranty that refused to accept receipts for 3 oil changes we did on our own and we were short 1 so they denied helping. I'm a teacher, my daughters dad is active duty military and I promise if I had the funds to get a new vehicle I would. In this financial climate I can not, I still owe 17,000 on the car and pay $399 a month for her to have an unreliable vehicle. My issue is that Sam in service has been the absolute worst. Cindy has tried her very best to be helpful. The manager today was defensive when I was simply trying to explain the situation. My daughter was standing there as he was speaking to me, and he was rolling his eyes and completely was agitated by his body language. When corporate called and tried to negotiate a lower fee they read exactly word for word what the service dept told them which was "miss Haywood knew the amount of the cost of the diagnostic and she agreed to it therefore that's on her and she needs to pay the full amount". This was of course while service was assuring me that with only 64,000 miles needing a new engine that Hyundai would most likely cover most if not all of the cost. That was not true. So we went to pick up the vehicle today and intended to pay the full amount for the diagnostic. However, the service department was unable to give me a breakdown of each item within the engine when they took it apart and what exactly was wrong with it. Instead, they said that they could not provide me with that information however, if I'm paying the full amount because they refused to negotiate anything lower than I expect to get exactly what I'm paying for. I don't have the funds to take it then to another mechanic to diagnose exactly the components that need to be replaced. This is what I was trying to explain to the manager that happened to be in the service department when my daughter came in and who I spoke to. I think his name was something like Joe Billings or something like that. At the end of the day, this has been the worst customer service experience of my entire life. My daughter has had to borrow a car since August so that she could get to her college classes. I am developing an ulcer legitimately from this situation because I just need somebody who cares about people to hear what I'm saying and help me. At this point I'm asking for a complete diagnostic of exactly what is wrong with each component within the top engine if that's what they have diagnosed so I know exactly what the issue is. I would also like somebody to contact me that knows how to speak to a customer and, convey this information as well as provide this information to me in writing so that I can then take it to my stepdad who will do his best to replace one part at a time until we're able to get her car running again. Financially, I don't have any other option. The service department just said "needs new top engine" which is 7500-10500. Completely the worst service department and company! My parents, who are in they're early to mid 70's, we're moving from Spanish fort back home to Tuscaloosa and a couple days before their departure their Hyundai Genesis had a sensor and actuator fail. They dropped it off at this dealership for repair and were quoted $650 for everything. As they already had movers lined up I offered to drive the car 4 hours north to save them a trip. Upon picking the car up for them, the bill was almost exactly $100 more than quoted. I realize this isn't an absorbent amount of money but it is when you're on a fixed income. When I questioned it, they replied it was taxes and "shop supplies" (which was almost $36 alone). I questioned what these items were as I sell Shop consumables and I know why the cost is. I fully understand the need to capture your consumable items but what rubbed me wrong is that first, you didn't include it on your front end quote, and secondly the explanation of it by your clerk and the service writer were frightfully awful. She said in a haughty attitude, and I quote, "everyone pays it and that's the max we can charge" all while tapping on another customers invoice. I felt like an absolute child, when in all actuality I've done mechanic work as a profession most of my life and am a large grown man. She then informed it was for "topping off filters". It was just terrible, to which I called bull. After calming down later in the day, I called the service manager Johnathan to discuss how I truly felt my elderly parents were taken advantage of and I left him a voicemail to which he never responded, even though it's been several days. Avoid this dealership if possible. In business, conflicts are bound to arise. At least have the decency to have a conversation about iand return a phone call Amended 7/7/20- Johnathan called me and was very apologetic and understanding. He was good to deal with. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership and it was fixed within a week. He took care of all the paperwork for the Hyundai warranty I purchased when I got the car and the repair was covered. His staff is so afraid of him and seeks his approval they go along with the lies and manipulation. Women, especially, should avoid this male dominated dealership that makes you feel it isn't your place to question their decisions. You will be repeatedly lied to over and over and made promises they won't keep. And don't ever expect an apology; that won't happen. McGraw uses unrelated analogies to belittle and bully you! He flaunts his own personal success in your face. He will laugh about negative customer reviews and say they mean nothing to him. Clearly this man shouldn't be in an industry that is lead by customer service and satisfaction. McGraw humiliated me with his degrading comment that the loaner car I was driving (due to the dealership's lies and false promises) was nicer than what I purchased. He actually expected a thank you for his baiting of free car washes and "little surprises!" I left the dealership in tears and unfit to drive home by myself because of this individual and his actions! You are nothing more than a number at this place, seeing how many cars they can push out in a day at whoever's expense. Eastern Shore Hyundai did NOT come anywhere close to making me feel like a valued customer. They are lead by personal greed and nothing more! I went in today with money in hand to purchase a new car. No trade, no financing, so it was a pretty straight forward deal. Found the perfect car. It was a 2018 model, which I wanted so that I could get a better deal. The salesman was nice and seemed to know the product. However, the sales manager must have thought I was an idiot. I went in knowing that the 2018's had a huge rebate, and that the dealer should be somewhat motivated to sell a 2018. I told the salesman the amount I wanted to spend, which with the rebate, would have been a good deal for both of us. So the salesman comes back with a price that was over MSRP, plus allowed them to keep the factory rebate. Now I know in negotiations, you start high as the seller and go down, but it was simply ridiculous to jack the price way up when I was honest and fair with the salesman up front. I chose a car from their offerings online. When I contacted them, I told them I had financing through my bank. The rep offered to drive the car to my office, where I saw a sticker price that was higher than advertised. In the very tiny print on their site, there is a disclaimer that the price was only valid if using Hyundai financing, "BUT, if you sign today, we will honor that price". I agreed, and sent them the countersigned offer letter and payment details. The next day, before we could arrange delivery, the dealership said they would not honor the deal we signed at the price to which we agreed (which by the way, included an $800 (!!!) document fee). Bottom line is that if they wished to reserve that price for their financing only, that is their prerogative...but don't renege on a signed deal. read more

I had misread something on the website and that car was not for me. My fault. They scoured the inventory and found the car I wanted and within minutes we agreed on a fair price. Eastern Shore Sells Used Hyundai Lemons I purchased a used 2009 Hyundai Sonata from Eastern Shore Hyundai in January of 2014. While I owned the car, everything was maintained as it should have been: oil checks every three months, belts and hoses inspected at every oil change, tires replaced and rotated, compression checks, battery changes and checks. In June of 2016 I noticed a small rattling while accelerating. Within one week of the rattling starting, the car completely shut down and lost power steering coming off of the interstate. The car was towed to two different mechanics. The first mechanic replaced the starter for a hefty fee, though we ultimately found the starter wasn't the problem. It turned out to be a main bearing in the engine, a problem that would cost vastly more than the car was worth to fix. We were told that from the moment we drove it off the lot, this engine failure was inevitable - even with routine vehicle maintenance. So, two and a half years in and only halfway paid for the Sonata is nothing more than a paperweight. I'm at a huge disadvantage at this point, as I am unable to take on another car note while paying for a car that's now toast. I just wanted to express how upset I am with the car that I purchased from your dealership. A car that was routinely maintained, as mine was, should have certainly lasted me five or six years from the purchase date. read more

My wife and I walked into Eastern Shore Hyundai to test drive a Hyundai Tuscon SEL. We had previously been to a dealership in Pensacola but due to time constraints we did not take a test drive on a Tuscon which was on their lot. At Eastern Shore Hyundai their first offer was $4,000 more than we had been quoted in Pensacola for an identical Hyundai Tuscon SEL. When the written quote was presented to the sales rep, he immediately matched the price. We agreed to purchase the vehicle and arranged a time to finalize the deal. When we returned to the dealership I had a certified check in hand for the car we had chosen. While signing papers to consummate the deal I was presented with a mandatory arbitration agreement to sign. I politely explained that I would not sign the agreement and after some nebulous explanation from the sales manager I was told that they would not sell the car to me unless I signed the document. He indicated he would let me talk with his supervisor who just happened to be an attorney. When he walked in he identified himself and said that he had training as an attorney. (I should have asked to see his bar card at this point) He tied to convince me that this arbitration agreement was for my benefit and not the dealership (yea right) He wouldn't budge and would not sell us the car. I am a resident of Michigan and have purchased several new cars there. I have been asked to sign the same agreement but when I refused in Michigan the dealer continued with the sale. I would strongly urge anyone purchasing a new car to ask up front if an arbitration agreement was required to complete the purchase. I would also urge anyone purchasing a new vehicle to research who the arbitration agreement actually benefits. It certainly is not the customer. "Caveat Emptor" read more

I just recently sold my 2003 expedition with over 280k miles. I loved that ride but it had a lot of miles and I was getting nervous something else may go wrong. So I sold it then walked in Eastern Shore Hyundai with a good size down payment of over $2k. The people were really nice. I test drove some cars and finally decided to go with a 2016 Camry with 30k miles. The MSRP was $16,900. Before signing they brought me the paperwork to agree to the new price of $18,900. Exactly $2,000 over the MSRP. They were taking my $2,000 down payment and adding it to the MSRP price but then trying to make it look like my $2,000 down payment was being applied at the very end of financing. They basically washed out my $2,000 down payment when really my down payment should've came off the MSRP bringing the car down from $16,900 to $14,900... nope the finance company showed where they financed me at $18,900. I questioned the dealership on this multiple times before I bought and had them check Kelly blue book. They even verified the cars MSRP was $16,900 in front of the salesman. Yet still jacked up the price to $18.900 for no reason.... I'm the real idiot here for letting them get away with this. And yes they will do it to you too, so do yourself a favor and walk right back out the door and go buy somewhere else. I like my car but was robbed by this dealership. read more

Took our Hyundai in Jan 9th 2020. There was a undefined wobble in front end. Technician test drove vehicle to pin point issue. I was asked by service adviser that there was something I needed to see. Walked back to were car was on a rack and the technician picked the left front wheel up & down. Seems there was a bolt hanging down from the linkage and he advised me that he had never saw this type of issue before and that he would try to fix it. A hour or so later someone advised my wife who was with me that the vehicle was ready. We had some shopping to do that day so we left. I did notice there was no paperwork in the car but we live 40 miles away About 4 days later I received a call from service adviser saying there was a misunderstanding and I owed them $94.18 which I sent a check for. I expressed to him that I would like a copy of the repairs done so I could document it. Received a copy a few days later which states a Diagnostic was performed and a shop charge. No explanation as to what else was done or how this occurred other that Mr Cutler stating in a E-mail that he does not know what happened. Since this vehicle has never had any outside service over the last 5 years I was at a loss as to why this occurred and has definitively shaken my belief in the brand. Most front end parts are married together and I considered this a safety issue and scary. I do not consider it unreasonable to want to know how a situation could have occurred & what was done to correct it. I did contact Hyundai Motor Corporation as to recall in this particular situation. I was advised by them there no recall, however they would document this occurrence. He also stated that there responsibilities are Warranty & Recalls. He stated that the service work at the dealer is a issue that has to be pursued with them . I then left a message on 1/22/2020 For Mr Cutler to call me as I still seek further information. Still waiting on that call. In closing I would say that other than the issue it has been one of the best vehicles we have owned. We have 5 Hyundai's scattered throughout our family. 3 of which were purchased at this dealership. . read more
