For a small town in Indiana, I was pleasantly surprised to have decent Chinese food. Service was also very friendly and attentive. The waitstaff is fluent in English but we also got to practice our Mandarin Chinese with them. Unassuming exterior but surprisingly nice interior atmosphere. We ordered Pad Thai level 3 & garlic chicken level 2...both had NO SPICE whatsoever. The Pad Thai was dry, and tasteless...just very disappointing! The Garlic chicken was sweet & that made it super weird! We also ordered sweet & sour chicken...that was the only dish we ordered that was as expected & it was fresh & delicious. The order was large, and as I do not want the sauce with it, because to me it's all about the chicken pieces, this place hit it outta the park! Perfectly cooked, delicately flavored, and beautiful! The chicken fried rice was good... Could have been a little more flavorful, maybe some sauce during the stir-fry...could add color and flavor, but it was good. You may first look at the place and be a bit skeptical, but I assure you this place is great. I love they have the large tables with large lazy Susan for large parties. And the have a good deal if have a party of ten checkout out. As for the food, my wife had the mango chicken and I had the braised pork intestine and blood casserole. Both were extremely flavorful, great presentation. Service was excellent and both servers this evening were very attentive. We throughly enjoyed the experience. We will be back. read more

We are traveling home to NY after five days in Missouri and stopped here for a late dinner. We have so many Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Asian restaurants where we live, I think we are spoiled by the quality of our choices. I looked for best Thai restaurants near me and found this wonderful restaurant. Although it's rundown from the outside and appears slightly seedy, the food is quite delicious. We ordered pad woon sen with shrimp and Pad see ew with chicken and a pot of tea. They were both very tasty and delicious but a little dry. The portions are huge and we had no idea as we weren't told so we were so full and didn't have room for dessert. I would go back if we lived here. Thank you! read more

I love this place. Have been getting take out from them for the last couple of months, and it is my go-to Chinese restaurant in Terre Haute. I've tried so many dishes, but the one that sold me on them was their Singapore Noodle. That's what I use to judge a place. Some places make the dish so dry it's like you're sucking on curry dust, but not here. The noodles were soft, the vegetables crisp, the meat tender. So good. I've also had their lo mein, their peppered pork, several different appetizers and even some bubble tea - mango - super yummy. Service is friendly. The price is a little higher than most of the other local places, but I would argue that the quality is a lot better. Definitely a place I will go to over and over. read more

Best Asian cuisine in Terre Haute. [If you're looking for sushi, hit up Umi's, but] all their Chinese and Thai dishes are very good. My main gripe is the food can vary a bit depending on who they have in the kitchen. I've come on a day and had the food be good, and other days it's super good. I've come on a day and had "5 spicy" be not hot at all, and other days it's burning your tongue off hot. Another small gripe is that the drinks are not great. The food was great! I ordered steam juicy pork bun which is like a baozi and a Singapore chow Mei fun. When I ordered. the waitress double checked with me because I told her that I wanted the bun filled with roasted pork, which wasn't a baozi but a sandwich. The waitress told us to order a lunch portion for the "better deal" so my husband and I both ordered $7.99 lunch specials. We received lunch-sized portions that came with a cup of soup. When the bill came, we were charged for dinner portions. When we asked about it, the waitress ran our card and then said "oops." The manager said she didn't know we ordered lunch portion, so they rang it in wrong. We shouldn't have to pay for the more expensive meal just because it was entered into the computer incorrectly. We didn't receive bigger portion sizes but paid $8 more on the total bill than we would have if they were rang in correctly. To "fix" the mistake we were offered a $3 gift card. THREE DOLLARS. We declined the gift card and will not return. It sucks because the food here is actually pretty good and we have been ordering here monthly every time we travel to Terre Haute for work. Star rating is all about expectations. I think if this place looked like a real classy place from the outside I'd have given it 4 stars. When I pulled into the parking lot I was like "really?" It looks like an old diner that is only frequented by the locals that aged with the establishment. Inside it does look better, but I didn't really feel relief. We adore Eastern House, the food is amazing and the owners are so wonderful! If you haven't done their Sunday special, you MUST! You call at least a week ahead to make reservations. You have to have a group of at least 10 and for $20/person they serve you a crazy huge family style meal, something like 7-10 courses!!! They select the menu for you (you can request specific items if you like, or let them know if you have any dietary restrictions) and you can try a bunch of new dishes. Be warned: there is no possible way that you will be able to eat everything they give you, so keep your portions small if you want to be able to sample everything. We have discovered that we love so many dishes we would have never considered ordering! read more

Had an average experience at Eastern House. The place is nicely decorated and very clean. Upon entering, we were immediately seated by the friendly staff. We ordered several dishes - chicken pad thai, chicken pad see ew, panang curry, sichuan fish filet, and chicken lo mein. I hate to say this because everyone in the restaurant was so friendly but overall, I thought that the dishes were extremely underseasoned and tasted very bland. Throughout my meal, found myself hoping that the next spoonful would contain the bold tastes that authentic Thai food should have - but unfortunately, I was repeatedly disappointed. This is my go-to spot when I'm in Terre Haute! I used to frequent here when it was Exotic Thai, back when I lived in Terre Haute. I was so disappointed when I found out it closed but hopeful when I learned the Eastern House was opening. Eastern House is just as good as Exotic Thai and has even more of a variety of options since it is a pan-Asian restaurant. I haven't tried anything here that I didn't enjoy and I especially love their tofu curry with coconut rice, and of course, their Padd Thai. Do not be deceived by the building's exterior. This place is a gem! The food is excellent and perfect for sharing. I highly recommend the Fish filet in Szechuan broth, the Pad See Ew, crispy fried duck (watch for bones) The Kratien Prik Thai, and the delightful Cheng Du steamed dumpling! 5 of us shared family style and had plenty to enjoy and take home. Terre Haute Is home to a variety of oriental establishments, but Eastern House boasted 4 Stars compared to the 3.5 Stars worn by everywhere else. Eastern House is classy, slightly expensive, and the service is fair. We stopped in for dinner tonight and ordered 3 dishes. While ordering our waitress had her earphones in and as a result gave us the wrong soup. The soup we got was their wonton, which included raw ingredients and a hidden fish flavored surprise...yuck. The garlic chicken, my mothers dish, was very sweet and not so garlicky. We all (the 3 of us there) tried to eat it but gave up. The chicken lo mein tasted like standing water and salt. My 11 year old brother, who will eat anything, couldn't finish half of it. Take note that he had finished his 3 hour football extravaganza just 30 minutes earlier. He was, and still afterwards, famished. Finally, I ordered their general stos chicken to be safe, the chicken was crispy but very syrupy/sugary and I didn't even put a dent in it. We ate so little of our meal that they could have heated it up and served it to their next customers. Safe to say we did not enjoy our $52 meal. Unless you've got a sweet tooth and a desire for fish flavored wonton soup look elsewhere for your oriental cravings. read more

Terre Haute has zero foreign food options so it's nice this place exists! Their lunch prices are really affordable ($6.99 for almost the entire menu) and the portions are HUGE! One thing is that i love spicy food and their food rated 1-5, 5 being spiciest and i can handle the 4-5 with no problems. So i wish there was a little spicier option. This place is great. This is a secret gem in Terre Haute. Their food is dynamite! They have PHO! If you don't know what Pho is you need to google it right after you read this review. Then try some as soon as possible. The food is fantastic and the price is beyond reasonable. There was a negative remark in one of the other reviews about the staff being rude. I asked the owner what happened. She had asked her 15 year old daughter to fill in at the register. Her 15 year old wasn't feeling "it" that day as 15 year olds are prone to behave at times.
