Dr. Dea did a thorough exam to get me set up with my first pair of glasses ever. She explained things well. I then went over to the glasses section to pick out a pair of frames and had my measurements taken and the technician also let me try on glasses outside to see what they look like in the daylight. I returned 2 weeks later to have my eyes dilated for the rest of the exam as I was not able to have them dilated at my first visit. I had my 2nd exam with Dr. Rebekah Klein. She was great too! It was in this visit that my glasses were ready for pick up. I got progressive glasses because I have some vision loss for distance and it's been really hard to read on my phone. So they are pretty much worn only for driving and when in my phone. I feel I am still getting used to the glasses when driving. I also want to comment that the front desk staff have been nice and have returned my calls quickly when I have had to contact the office.

She is very thorough and explains things well. I'm also very impressed with the staff at Ventura Optometric Vision Care. The workers at the front desk are unfailingly courteous and efficient. Let me give you an example of how efficient this place is. When your glasses are ready, the office sends you a notification. Contrary to what you might expect, you don't need to schedule an appointment to pick them up. You can just drop by anytime and they will have someone available to take care of any adjustments needed to ensure a comfortable fit. So convenient! The location, on Victoria is also very convenient. As is the private parking lot. The waiting room is spacious and reasonably comfortable. There are magazines for people without phones. There is also a children's play area. Oh, and they have a pretty huge selection of frames here too. Frames for days. So many frames. I mean really a lot. Maybe like a thousand. I'm not kidding. Maybe more. When I first went to this place for an eye exam and to order new contacts I was very impressed with the efficiency, especially for a small town facility. However, since then, it has been downhill. I took home a trial pair of contacts and then, when I was sure the contacts were working for me, I called to order a full year supply. I waited for them to come in. I waited. I waited. I called and was told they should be in soon. Finally, I was told that they never got ordered but they would order them that day. I waited. I waited. What should have been an overnight fix took another week. Now, it's time to order glasses. I went in. Picked out frames. Didn't complain about the price, although it was much higher than I am used to paying, Again, I waited. And waited. Finally called and was told that the glasses came I but one of the lenses had a chip. They would remake and call me when they were in. I waited. I waited. (Do you see a theme here?). I called and was told that the glasses would be here tomorrow. I waited. I called. No glasses. Somehow they missed the delivery. I waited. The weekend came and went. Monday is here. I was assured the glasses would be in this morning. I am still waiting. My prescription will probably change before my glasses show up. And, on top of it, when I asked if there was an office manager in charge I was told no. Any surprise there? Moral of the story is -- unless you have lots of money and lots of patience go somewhere else for your eye care needs

I set an appointment and when I arrived the office was nearly empty I had to wait for the optician lady to return from lunch or break. It took about 20 minutes of her typing on her computer with very little interaction. 7 to 10 days for my glasses. After 2 weeks I was called and told my glasses were ready. The lady hands me a bag with my glasses, I look inside the bag and she asks if I want to try them on. Of course. They fit okay. When I get to the car and put on one of the glasses I noticed a black ink mark on each lens,that I had to clean off. Maybe I was spoiled by my old eye doc. He would personally meet with patients picking up glasses, make sure they fit perfectly and then clean them. I'll be looking for a new optometrist.

They even told me to come in as often as I wanted because they were basically free. They never gave me a cost estimate because they said it was covered. 2 years later I get a bill for over $1k because apparently it wasn't covered and in the entire 2 years (over a dozen visits I had in that office) they never once told me that I owed them money. They just kept letting it build up. I would never have gotten this service if I had known it was costing me money each time. They never once told me there was a deductible in the 2 YEARS I came to the office. Only kept continually telling me it was 'completely covered' by insurance. I didn't even know they were billing my medical insurance and not my eye insurance because it was a 'medical' service. They didn't explain any of that. I did complain and they did write off some of the cost, but they are still expecting me to pay several hundred dollars for a treatment I would have turned down at the very beginning if they had told me there were any cost. The fact that it was 2 years of fees building up before they let me know is ridiculous. The whole thing feels like a scam. I shouldn't have to pay any fees, but I'm done arguing. I just hope that this review warns others to at least don't take their word for anything and double check your own insurance even if they tell you things are covered. And make sure you are asking if they are billing eye insurance or medical. I always thought it was weird they kept trying to upsell additional tests, etc, but didn't think it was a big deal because you can turn those down. But I should have gone with my first instincts and found a different Dr. after my first visit.

When they sold the place we went elsewhere to see if we could get our glasses a little cheaper (our insurance had changed and it was more costly). That was a huge mistake. We went to 2 other places in town and had so much trouble getting our prescriptions right at both of them. Seriously, Amy returned her glasses 2 times at one place and 1 time at another. We then decided to go to B&T and when we came back, we were greeted like old friends and had a great experience. I actually had a problem with my prescription, but was told to come back in for another exam and Dr. Azzam was great and Cheryl took great care of my order and the finer details of fitting the glasses on my big head. Very detailed and extensive exam to find the issue. I then got my new glasses with the updated prescription and they're better than I imagined. Seriously, the best glasses I've had so far. Turns out the amount of money spent at B&T was on par with the money at the other 2 places in town, so lesson learned. I'm writing this to spare you the discomfort of having to learn that lesson too. Go to B&T and you'll be happier for it! We won't be going anywhere else again.

Visited twice in one week…read more Finally decided to take care of my eyes and get it checked after not seeing an optometrist in 6 years. My first visit was this past Tuesday for a wellness exam. Showed up early just in case there was a wait. I thought I'd be seen as soon as I got there being that I had an appointment, but I ended up having to wait 45 minutes to be seen. Luckily, the staff as well as the Dr. who saw me was super awesome. I believe it was Flinn. He explained everything to me and ended up entertaining me by telling me the Tagalog words that he knew. I was told to come back for more tests. I should've asked what for, but I didn't. Turns out it was to see the back of my eye to make sure I don't have glaucoma. So yay for no glaucoma. Lidia helped me out today throughout the whole testing. She's super awesome. Bubbly and naturally friendly. Dr. Shaffer saw me for the remainder of the appointment. Lidia again assisted me with picking new glasses. I picked one from their collection and was told I would be called when it's ready to be picked up. I took away one star for having to wait during my first appointment.
