While driving from Huntsville, Alabama to Oxford, Mississippi, my dash suddenly signaled that all of the car's sensors were not operating. I pulled into Tupelo, Mississippi hoping to find a Mercedes dealer only to find out that the nearest one was in Memphis, 116 miles away. I found Auto Medic online and saw that they specialized in Mercedes and other high end vehicles. The shop was hidden from the street behind another building. I began to have doubts until I noticed all of the high end cars parked in their lot. I arrived at 4 pm on a Wednesday. From that point, they made every effort to get me back on the road safely. The problem was determined to be a 4' x 6' piece of plastic wrapping material that had somehow wrapped around the left front drive axle so tightly that the sensor wires had snapped and the inner seal had been crushed. The damage required the half-axle to be replaced. Auto Medic's owner, Bobby, drove us to a car rental agency to get a car while his team started to search for a new half-axle. This was during the second year of Covid, and foreign car parts were very difficult to find. A new half-axle was found in Florida, and they had it shipped to another distribution center in Mississippi. Rather than wait for the part to be re-shipped, they drove 120 miles round trip to pick up the part when it arrived at the distribution center. They had us on our way Friday morning, with the damaged parts in tow in case there was some difficulty with our insurance claim. (There was none.) During the entire time I was at Auto Medic, they made sure I had everything I needed. I was invited to watch them work on the car, and they took photos to show the claim adjuster (who was in Connecticut! ) what the situation was. I was most impressed to see the lead mechanic using the opportunity to explain the working of the 4-matic (AWD) system to other mechanics as it is rarely seen in cars sold in the South. Although they went through a lot of extra effort, they stayed with their original estimate. When I returned home, the car was due for its B maintenance check and was found to be in perfect condition.

I used my Firestone account with my saved vehicle, to select tires and received a full "out-the-door" quote, including installation, taxes, and ALL fees, installed at my local shop. I reserved the tires, price and appointment, as directly offered. After booking, the store called and advised the price would be approximately $200 higher (roughly 20%) than the quoted out-the-door total; otherwise I would receive no warranty, etc.; despite the tires advertised with a 70K manufacturer limited warranty, and a 90-day limited satisfaction guarantee. I mentioned that I had reserved the tires at the locked price online, and was told that the prices online did not reflect the actual price at the location. I canceled the appointment, and the order. I contacted customer service, first via the online chat, which they push you to, to clarify if I had perhaps missed something; but the chat was not helpful, or intuitive. I then called the corporate 1-800 number to ask about the quoted out-the-door pricing online, versus a location not honoring the price. Long story short, while they were very polite (at every step) I was informed that I could not count on any location to honor the advertised Firestone pricing, and I'd be advised to contact local stores only from this point forward. It would be easy to try and point the finger at a single party, but I don't think that's fair. I think this demonstrated a serious systemic problem from the local level all the way to the corporate office(s).

I've used Tom's several times in the last few years, and three (3) times in the last three (3)…read moremonths or so, for routine service, and vehicle upgrades, like struts, headlight assemblies, etc. Their labor prices are fair market, and they're one (1) of the few places that will install parts you supply, although they will not warranty parts you bring in (which is pretty standard). Also, in my experience they largely operate solely on a show-up, first come, first serve system. Outside of one (1) or two (2) particular services, they don't do appointments or booking ahead of time.
