My dentist referred me to Dr. McNamara for a root canal consultation. After a thorough examination, it was deciced that I needed it and to my surprise, Dr. McNamara was able to get it done right away! It was over quickly and was completely painless, except for the small pinch of the numbing medicine. The front office woman was delightful and efficient, I was taken back on schedule, and the dental assistant was very professional. I came in here after experiencing a painful tooth infection on a tooth that had previously had a root canal done. Dr. McNamara was able to get me in for a consultation very quickly. He was very calm and collected, and made me feel at ease as we went through the consultation steps. He was thorough with treatment option plans, and I felt very aware of my options for the next step. Ultimately, instead of a second root canal on an infected tooth, I am opting to have the little sucker pulled, and they cannot do that procedure here. If I had ended up doing the root canal retreatment, I would have felt very confident and comfortable with Dr. McNamara. If I end up needing on in the future [crossing my fingers I don't] I will most likely return here for his work. read more

I have had several root canals done in my life and never have I had as much pain during and after my procedure with Dr McNamara. For starters, his bedside manners could use some improvement. He is not very friendly and seems rushed. Does not really explain what he is doing and is very rough. He kept having to give me anesthetic because I kept feeling pain. I felt line I was being tortured. After the procedures was done I asked if I owed anything they said no. I left and for the next two months felt pain in that tooth everyday. When I called my wonderful dentist who I trust and recommended me to McNamara, they told me I needed to go back to him since he did the work. I said I refused because of my bad experience. I wanted my dentist to do an X-ray and make sure the work was fine. I was that skeptical! My dentist said yes, I had a root canal and showed me the X-ray. They said sometimes done teeth take a while to "settle" after a root canal. The icing on the cake was when I received a bill for $2000 and threatening collection letter. I have insurance and was shocked. When I called McNamara office they said it was a mistake and my bill was paid in full. Such incompetence. Worst dental experience ever. To start: I've had several root canals with a variety of dentists and this is a first for me on the dental front. I don't have a fear of dentists or getting work done and think I am a pleasant patient. Including today, I have been to this office twice. I was referred to Dr. McNamara by my dentist because he does root canals. My first experience in January was in having the root canal done. I was taken into my appointment on time. Everything went well EXCEPT for how damn fast he was. Sure, great...dental work in under a half hour sounds cool but I felt like he was tense and rushing the job. Later when I was leaving the office, thinking I was done with the office altogether, I asked the receptionist how he was so fast. She indicated he does root canals all day long and that's all he does. Suffice it to say, I thought that was it and my dentist could finish her job. I went back into my dentist and after an xray she immediately started she couldn't do the work needed on that same root canal tooth! She said Dr. McNamara hadn't put in a post...something about he needed to create a "post space". I was astonished. Thinking I could go to another root canal specialist, I said I would like to be referred to another office to have the "post space" work done. My dentist said I had ro yo back to Dr. McNamara because he would have noted on how deep the space was! My appointment today for the "post space" work was scheduled for 2:30. I want taken back to a chair until 2:50. I sat there waiting until 3:13 before he started the 18 minute job. I was not impressed but far be it for me to give him static as he's running drills in my mouth. He didn't apologize for being so late and behind schedule. I asked him if this lack of a post was standard...I have never had this happen before. He indicated it depends on the structural integrity of the tooth. Whatever. Ultimately, (and I'm guessing here), I think he forgot to insert the post in the first appointment. Suffice it to say I was not charged for today's work. My suggestion: slow down. Be courteous of your patient's time. And for crying out loud...don't forget the post. read more

Great root canal experience! I highly recommend!! I needed a root canal and my dentist recommended/referred me to Dr. Ryan McNamara. I'll admit, I was a bit nervous of the procedure when scheduling -- I mean who wouldn't be? The staff reassured me it was similar to getting a filling and I actually do pretty well with a filling. And oh boy, were they right!! During the procedure I had no pain and I left with no pain! After the procedure, I was forewarned that I may feel pain the day after and given ibuprofen to take to help ease the pain. But guess what? Seemed like nice people not very busy . They worked on an old root canal and , miss aligned my teeth . The pain was much worse then what I had gone in for and unfortunately they couldn't have me in to fix it for four days . It was awful . I ended up calling my dentist who had referred me there originally . He came in on his day off to align my teeth . I wrote a letter simply explaining how disappointed I was . I had to get 2 root canals and had been putting it off for about 2 years. I broke a back molar and one of my other teeth had finally died from an accident I was in 15 years ago and it was starting to discolor. I had been doing temporary fillings in my broken tooth just to get by because I loathe dentists but on 12/3 when part of my temporary filling came out I knew it was time to just get it done. I emailed Dr. McNamara about my issue and his response was quick and he got me in right away for a consultation and my root canals a few days later. What a painless and easy process. His staff is simply amazing as well. Especially the girl working the front desk. I wish he was a general dentist because I would love to just see him for all my dental needs but I can't. I needed re-treatment on an older root canal tooth. It was important for me to be able to save my natural tooth. The assessment , treatment cautions ,recommendations and prognosis details were right on and easy to understand and the procedure was very gently done. Dr. McNamara and his assistant Stephanie were professional, compassionate and high tech. Dr. McNamara and his staff are great. As soon as you walk through the door you feel relaxed and comfortable. They take the time to speak to you and understand how you are feeling. I expected to be in a lot of pain post surgery, however, I followed the detailed instructions and feel almost normal.
