CONS - For much of the year, there is a swim team that practices in the competition pool at prime after-work hours (often 4p-7p) and in the fall, there is the GUILFORD girls HS team, so it can be hard to swim after work. There is a nice walking path circling the lake with benches for relaxing and taking in the natural beauty. There is also a good mix of both sunny and shaded areas. Just watch out for the geese that seem to live in the lake lol The pool was recently completely rebuilt and is very large, very clean and has areas for small children to enjoy. The splash pad is great, and the pool itself is beautiful, but the environment doesn't feel welcoming to children. There are so many restrictions--no running, no splashing, no touching, no diving, no jumping--that it feels like kids aren't allowed to simply enjoy being in the water. Expecting children not to splash while swimming is unrealistic and takes away from the experience. What made our visit even more disappointing was the attitude of some of the staff. The female lifeguards were unpleasant and came across as rude throughout our visit, while the male lifeguards were polite and respectful. My 14-year-old daughter even felt uncomfortable because one of the female lifeguards repeatedly gave her dirty looks, despite her not causing any problems. Families should be able to enjoy a public pool without feeling like they're constantly being watched or made uncomfortable. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and works on creating a more welcoming atmosphere for children and families.
