We've been having nothing but problems with a True under counter ice machine since we bought it new less than a year ago. Its been a string of issues and several "certified" technicians from various companies have been out to "repair" it. One of my personal complaints is the noise when making ice, the fill valve opening, refrigeration process, etc. Its been a string of excuses but I'm thinking an expensive commercial grade ice machine should be quiet. A few weeks ago Mrs. Coot turned it off when we went out of town for a couple weeks. When we returned she turned it on and nothing. The inside light came on, it drained the melted ice, and the "Full" indicator came on meaning the machine thought it was full, then its really empty. Mrs. Coot called the usual companies and they couldn't get to us for a couple weeks. She then called East Bay Refrigeration who said they could respond in a couple days. The technician, Cole Lynch, quickly diagnosed the issues and replaced the problem parts. One of the parts he replaced happened to fix the noise problem which other technicians said "its the way the machine is made". The machine is now working and QUIET. Cole was very professional, efficient, and extremely knowledgeable as I peppered him with questions . Easy Bay came to our place within 24 hours of my initial inquiry. I bought a True 19" freezer during COVID that I placed in the garage for extra freezer capacity. Within a few months it started developing a sheet of ice on the left side. The first warranty service provider changed a bunch of parts over a period of 4 weeks but within a few months the problem came back. Cole came out today and was extremely professional, he quickly diagnosed that the unit was slightly out of level which causes the condensation to leak into the unit. This company is horrible. I've had three different repair people come out to fix a True ice maker. Each one has been incompetent and rude. The manager and dispatcher are not on the same page and one or the other is comfortable lying about ETA and what a repair window means. I called True to let them know they need to ditch this company for subcontract repairs. If you live in the Bay Area, do not let True dispatch this company to you for repairs. read more

Have had 3 separate experiences so far: 1) warranty on a bev-air worktop fridge 2) charging an avantco reach-in cooler that is low on Freon 3) diagnosing and charging a true GDM that is low on Freon The first experience was with Carlos and because he was so awesome, we didn't hesitate to call east bay for #2 on a non-warranty repair. We got lucky again that Carlos came to take care of us For #3, Carlos was booked up, so Mike (the owner) sent Rodney. I'm sure most of you understand when you like a certain person, you're always worried about whether a different one will be as good, honest, and friendly. I work at a Startup in the heart of FiDi and we have a giant refrigerator that is beautiful to look at but a pain in my ass. Carlos and Rodney have been lifesavers, and I couldn't be happier with the service I get from EBR. They're quick, friendly, knowledgeable and funny. I should also mention that there are a handful of repair places in SF that I've used in the past, I thought they'd be quicker being based in SF and all. Not true, EBR is based in Hayward and they're quicker then the handful of repair places in SF. I would not let them do the maintenance on your equipment. It is not well done, it looks like it is rushed and they overcharge $180+ for them to just blow and brush off dust off a condeser and charging you up to 4x the cost of a full can of co2 for them just to use it on my equipment for less than 10 seconds. Just another excuse for them to get more money out of you. And don't even bother reporting it to the person in charge of running that company. Horrible and rude customer service from the owner Mike himself. By the way, with regards to the owners yelp response, I don't use yelp, but I am so upset with the service that I felt I needed to create an account and write a review on what happened to help those considering their business. Worst refrigeration repair company I've ever dealt with in 15 years. I don't write bad reviews ever, but this owner deserves it for how he runs his business. We had a cold table down at our restaurant. It's under warranty so I called the manufacturer and they referred us to this company. Took 3 phone calls for them to show up and was ridiculous from then on. First time, the guy couldn't find parking! Yeah it's downtown SF guy, you have to hit the garages. There's no giant parking lots like in Hayward and rarely a meter open. Called owner Mike and he says the guy will be back the next day by 10am. Next day, guy shows up at 11:45 to a restaurant downtown during lunch rush and is upset when I tell him he can't work on it now cause we're in our lunch rush with a line of 75 people out the door. Can't just show up whenever you want pal. Comes out the next morning on time and parked in the garage (he's learned a lot in two days good job!), replaces a sensor and leaves. Doesn't wait to see if it's fixed. After monitoring it for a couple hours, nothing has changed. Called owner Mike who was upset I called him and he's always upset when you call him btw he's an angry guy it seems, he sends the guy back and he says he "fixed it" then leaves again without seeing if it's fine or not. Never got any better. Called this morning and says he doesn't want to come to San Francisco again for this. Owner threw in the towel and gave up cause his guy couldn't fix a brand new cold table and doesn't know how to run a business. If you need service in San Francisco, stay away from this company. We used Claddagh Refrigeration and they actually fixed it and it's running normal on the first visit! read more

Let's face it, when a critical piece of equipment breaks, we want it fixed...now! The reality is, no contractor is just sitting and waiting for your call. They have many other customers just like you, wanting their equipment fixed...now. Reasonable minds prevail people. East Bay Refrigeration is my go-to for refrigeration repair. These guys are running a scam! My medical freezer, where I store expensive vaccines, went out of range and my staff called the manufacturer American BioTech Supply, who recommended that we call these guys. The owner came out and claimed it was the control panel and estimated it would cost $500.00 to repair it. Then the technician Daniel came to do the repair work. He charged us $1,150 for the repair! The cost to buy the freezer$1200! The invoice he gave us was vague and not itemized. 3 weeks later the Medical Freezer failed again! When I asked them why they had not fixed it properly, the owner was very rude and said that they had to check it out again. The same technician came out again and was unprofessional and said he wasn't sure what the problem was but he changed some gaskets and wanted to charge us another $310! I told him I was not going to pay. That night the freezer failed again, so I ended throwing it away and buying a new one. Which is what I should have done in the first place! I can t believe what a con artists these guys are including mike the owner! I was recommended by Traulsen to use these guys to fix my commercial freezer. After paying $864.20 the freezer is still broken and wants to charge me more to come out try fixing it the third time...what a joke Mike is. The first guy changed relay board and a DIFFERENT fan blade. Fan blade was not put on the work order and was given to me, and when it was not running few days later the owner Mike came and said the blade was broken and says I'm making it up about a fan blade being switched by his employee. To make things worse he puts in another fan blade that is not the right size and tells me he doesn't know when he'll be able to get the right size fan blade. I called Traulsen and told them what had happened and they have decided to take them off their recommended list. Trust me as a business owner save yourself the trouble and find who has integrity in what the do! I'm glad you wrote back John further proving what kind business your running...you think everyone wants gets your service for free:(( that's where you're wrong!! I want to pay for a service that is done right, people don't want to get ripped off and you'll not last long, you think everyone is out get a free handout, when in reality your customers just want a fare service for the money they pay! I have a beautiful older-model Traulsen glass French-door refrigerator in my home - not your typical residential fridge. A few weeks ago, the compressor went out, & I wanted a pro repairperson. Round 1 - The local SF Bay Area Traulsen dealer gave me the name of an 'experienced repairman' - Horrible waste of time! 7 weeks in, still waiting for parts, no end in sight. I cut bait. Round 2 - Traulsen National referred me to a real pro - MIKE with EAST BAY REFRIGERATION. Mike was prompt, professional, fair and honest. He came out to look to see if it could be fixed. He carefully examined the frig and made his recommendation - replace the frig. I already did much appliance searching. I knew that an elegant replacement was out of my budget, and the affordable models would not fit so nicely. As a last-ditch, I asked Mike if the unit could be rebuilt. Mike said yes, and offered a rough estimate with time frame. If money was no object, that would have been my choice, but money is a concern. I have a commercial walk-in freezer that was not getting to the temperature I was setting it at. So I contacted East Bay Refrigeration for servicing. I spoke with the owner, Mike, and had servicing scheduled for the next day at 8AM. Mechanic, Jakob, was there before I arrived promptly at 8AM. Jakob was very nice and friendly. I told him what my problem was and he went to troubleshoot the freezer. He ran several different tests and cleaned out the coil (via blowing it out with compressed CO2 and running hose water through it). He also ensured that the coil and compressor were compatible with one another. All the tests he conducted revealed no issues and were in fine working condition. In the end, he said it was probably just a dirty coil (which he cleaned out). However, my temperatures were still at the same as before the servicing - and way above what I had it set at (side note: my freezer has been running for 2 hours now and has not dropped below the temperature from when he left). I mentioned that the temperatures were not falling - explicitly stating that I'm still in the exact same position I was before servicing (except now out $246). I asked him what other issues it could be - and he said he didn't know what else it could be since all the other tests were fine. Given that he said there wasn't anything else he could do, I paid him and sent him on his way given I was paying per hour. All in all, you can see why I'm a little disappointed. I feel like I paid a good amount of money and still have the exact same problem. Not to mention, I still do not know what the problem is. I also have a some issues with what they charged: - they charged a $25 truck charge AND billed me for travel time (in this case, $50 for half hour) - they charged $21 for 6lbs of CO2 (you can get 50lb CO2 tanks delivered to your door for $30-$40) - I was quoted $95/hour, but it looks like from the bill, I was charged $100/hour Total charge: $246.00 Immediately after the service, I called Mike to let him know that I was a bit disappointed that I had paid for service, but was no better off for it. Yes, my coil is now much cleaner - but that still has made little effect to the temperature of the walk-in freezer. Mike was combative over the phone and raised his voice - he said that I had the wrong expectations and that they don't have a magic wand that can immediately fix issues. I understand that - but, at the very least, I expected alternative possible solutions - not a dead end. And if you can't offer a possible solution, at least provide a discount on the service as a good will gesture. Nonetheless, as a business owner, I would have expected a little bit more professionalism. On the other hand, Jakob, the mechanic, handled my complaints in a very level headed manner. If this review were just based on his professionalism, I would rate him 5 stars. He is a nice guy. Everything else was not a good experience. read more

I have used Mike and his Company for 2 years at our sorority house. Our appliances are old but his guys always do things that keep my equipment going. He tries to get his guys out as soon as he can most days a couple of hours. The technicians are always helpful and friendly as is Mike. This past Friday my upright freezer went down and he sent someone even tho after hours that knows my house and equipment. Fixed in an hour and saved all of my food that had just been delivered.
