While waiting for a repair, I happened to see the most beautiful necklace, a delicate diamond cross with a small diamond cluster beside it. I instantly felt drawn to it. It reminded me of the Trinity: the cross representing the Son, the cluster as the Holy Spirit, and the "love" necklace I was already wearing symbolizing the Father's love. It felt like the perfect way to carry a reminder of God's presence, three in one, close to my heart. The necklace was just a little more than the birthday money I had, and I wasn't sure it would work out. But when I shared how meaningful it was to me, Jay was so loving and kind. I could tell he genuinely wanted to make me happy. He offered it to me for exactly the amount I had received for my birthday, and I was so touched by his warmth and generosity. I also asked if they would combine my "love" necklace with the cross and cluster into one piece, and Audrey did so with such grace, without charging anything extra. That simple act of care meant the world to me. It's rare to find a business with not only excellence in their craft, but also a true sense of community and compassion. The final piece is more than jewelry; it's a reflection of my faith and a daily reminder of God's love. I'm so thankful the Lord led me to Hearnes. Today, we went into a local Zales to submit two diamond rings for inspections as per the agreement on our Diamond Bonds. When we walked into the store, the clerk was behind the glass talking with another employee, so we waited patiently. While we were waiting, another customer entered the store, and the employee immediately left her conversation to help him. After she was done helping him, she turned to us and asked what she could do for us. We presented two rings for inspection, and she began the cleaning and inspection process without saying a word to us. Before the inspection was over, she turned to her coworker and told her to finish our paperwork. She stated that we didn't have a physical copy of our diamond bonds, so she would need to look it up. I did, however, have the physical copy. She had just never asked me. She finished the inspection, and without a word held the rings out for us to retrieve. My wife reached out for the rings, but instead of handing them to her she wordlessly dropped them into my wife's hands. The other clerk finished the paperwork and gave us a receipt, but neither of them told us the result of the inspection. This experience is the first time in New Bern we have felt unwelcome. The store was not busy, so I am unsure why we received such brusque service. It is the Christmas season, but neither person offered to show us any jewelry (probably the reason for the bi-yearly checks in the first place). We are a biracial couple, so we have experienced this type of treatment in other areas in the past, but it's the first since arriving here in July. All of this simply means we will likely make our jewelry purchases elsewhere in the future.
