We have found some really great furnishings at Big South Auction. The owner and the auctioneer are…read moreboth really nice people. The staff members helping are always the same people. This tells me that they take care of their employees. Highly recommend checking them out.

The only reason why this place even gets one star is for the kind women that work there but the…read moreowner's nasty attitude trumps that by far. I went there for the first time 2 weeks ago. I have been to many auctions in the Bay Area and figured why not try it in the South. My first experience was pleasant enough. I won many items, paid for them and then picked up the larger items the next day. This time around was a completely different experience. I went to preview the auction on Sat. and decided to place 2 absentee bids on two cement statues and then give my information for a phone bid on a bookcase. On Sun. I received a phone call for the bookcase and won it. I went down to the auction house several hours later to pay for it and inquire about the statues. The clerk at the counter found in her computer system that I had won the bookcase, 1 statue and some picture frames. I explained that I did not place a bid on picture frames. There was a line so she politely asked if I could step out of line to wait for another attendants to help me. I agreed and while waiting went to see the statues I had bid on. While waiting I saw the lovely older woman who had helped me with these bids on Sat. She had said that it looked like I had won both statues since my number was on both of them. After a while I went back to the clerk and all she saw was the bookcase and one statue so I paid for them with cash. I went to go retrieve my one statue and let the older woman know that I was only taking the one. She thought there may be a mistake so she took me back to the counter. While we were all discussing this, I was inquiring on how the absentee bids worked. There were 2 more clerks at the counter by now. I was under the impression that if there was someone who bid the same or more than I had and were present, they would be the winner. As all this was going on, the man I presume to be the owner or manager came by and completely TORE INTO ME. He was rude and nasty and said that if I didn't understand then I must be dense. I seriously could not believe that a business owner was talking to his customer this way. I looked him in the eye, which were crazy, and asked why he was speaking to me so rudely. His response was that I was giving his girls a hard time. I tried to explained that I was not but he was ready for a fight. I just said I didn't want the other item and started to go get me one statue. The older woman saw me and said, "He's just upset that it was a bad auction today." I said, "Well that isn't my fault." I then realized I didn't want to do business with this jerk at all. I went back to the counter and asked for all my money back. The clerk went to go ask his permission and he agreed and then walked by me and said, "And don't come back." As the clerk handed me my cash she mouthed, "I'm sorry." There's NO WAY I'd ever come back here and I'd urge everyone to stay away. I feel sorry for those women as they must be working for a going broke, unstable jerk. I know these days are hard and the economy is tough but you'd think a business owner would try to be a little more professional. I feel badly for the men moving all the furniture as well. I bet they don't get paid very well. I'm bet they are all about to lose their jobs because their boss is going broke. That's probably because he's an ASSHOLE.
