Because of the cost, I needed some time before bringing my second cat in. During that time my second cat had a medical emergency -- a urinary blockage. I rushed him to the emergency vet, where the bill escalated quickly since everything was out of pocket. The emergency vet suggested that to save money, they could give me my cat's urine sample so my regular vet could run the lab tests instead of running them at the emergency hospital. I immediately called Holistika Vet because they were the only veterinarian I had an established relationship with. I was extremely distressed and crying because the emergency vet had told me there was a 50% chance my cat might not survive and that follow-up with my regular vet would be important. The receptionist told me it was their policy that they could not see my second cat because he had never been examined there before. I explained that I understood the policy but asked if they could at least run the urine tests (which I would pay for) to help us understand what caused the blockage. Unfortunately, I was told they could not do that either and that the tests would have to be done at the emergency hospital. The conversation felt very cold and unsympathetic during a moment that was extremely frightening for me as a pet owner. Fast forward to February 2026 -- I scheduled an appointment for both of my cats. A few days before the appointment I received an email canceling it, stating they would no longer see my pets because I had given attitude to the receptionist during the emergency call months earlier. I went in person to speak with management to explain the situation and my perspective. I was told they had no record of the conversation but were still refusing future care. For me, the most disappointing part of this experience was the lack of compassion during a very serious emergency and the refusal to even run a test that could have helped guide my cat's care. Upon arrival, we encountered a sign at the front desk that was extremely condescending and immediately gave the impression of a business more interested in enforcing rules than treating patients with respect. There is a 10-minute grace period that is not clearly communicated beforehand, and if you are even slightly late, the clinic threatens to cancel your appointment and charge a late fee. We were only about five minutes late due to a long line and parking delays, yet we were told our appointment was canceled and a late fee would be applied. The staff at the front desk were dismissive and RUDE AF!!!! , particularly one woman who seemed to enjoy asserting power over patients. She even hung up abruptly on a caller saying, "I'll call you back, I'm busy." When we requested to speak to the manager, the response was only slightly better, still condescending, and we were reprimanded for explaining the situation. It felt very much like being treated as children rather than valued clients. For a clinic that presumably cares for animals, this lack of empathy, patience, and basic courtesy was courtesy was shocking. If you're treating your HIGH PAYING CLIENTS THIS BAD!? I brought my dog in for a routine anesthetic dental cleaning. During the procedure, I received a call saying they needed to extract four teeth and that the total would be $2,400. I've had anesthetic dental cleanings done for my dogs at multiple veterinary hospitals over the years, including procedures with extractions, and I have never paid anywhere near that amount. After my husband questioned the estimate, the cost suddenly dropped to around $1,000 for two extractions. That alone left us wondering how the original quote was determined. The pickup experience was even more disappointing. I was handed three pieces of paper with very little explanation and no medication. Every other veterinarian I've been to has sent my dog home with pain medication directly from the clinic. Instead, I was told I needed to call around to CVS and other pharmacies to find one that could fill the prescriptions. Meanwhile, my poor dog had just undergone oral surgery and was crying in pain. I had to take her home first, then immediately drive to CVS. Once there, the pharmacist spent over 30 minutes on the phone with the vet trying to clarify the prescriptions. Then came the most alarming part of the entire experience. One of the prescribed medications was rejected by the pharmacist because it contained xylitol, a sugar alcohol that is highly toxic to dogs and can be fatal if ingested. I was shocked that this prescription was written in the first place. Had the pharmacist not caught it, I could have unknowingly given my dog a medication containing an ingredient that poses a serious danger to dogs. That was the final straw. I have three dogs and recently moved to Long Beach, so I was hoping to find a veterinary clinic I could trust for years to come. Unfortunately, Pine Animal Hospital has lost what would have been a loyal customer. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this clinic and would encourage others to look elsewhere.

To the point of claiming my frenchie 'bit him' (He does NOT bite) I was there, my daughter was there, and Javier was there if he needed help to get him settled we were all there. At the same time, if you CAN'T do it, just say so and keep it professional. I mentioned to Javier that I regularly take him to the vet for a nail trim and the groomer's words were "there's also plenty of vet techs to assist in holding him down!" That was unnecessary banter and again if you CAN'T do it, just say so and keep it professional.
