But amazing food can be found everywhere, and in the most unlikely places sometimes. Arya is definitely one of those diamonds in the rough. My nephew suggested we celebrate his birthday dinner here, as he is in love with their butter chicken! I could totally see why - it was brilliantly rich and creamy, and the chicken pieces just melt in your mouth (good for the seniors on our table!). We also ordered samosas, fish curry, lamb roganjosh and lentil dahl which were all spot on. The beef vindaloo was probably the only dish not on par with the rest, as the meat was fairly tough. But what stole the show for me was the chicken tikka! It was served on a sizzling plate which really gave the chicken that wonderful crisp taste, and kept it hot but not dry - in fact it was incredibly juicy, and came with a lemon wedge for that extra citrus kick. As we were one of the first groups to arrive, service was attentive and the dishes came out quickly. Later on as they got busier, it became more challenging to get a waiter's attention to order again, but they were always smiling and did their best, given it was a Saturday night. Told them it was my nephew's birthday, to which they played a super tacky rendition of Happy Birthday in surround sound (much to his utter embarrassment) and the entire restaurant sang along! Great to see other diners get into the spirit of things. Seems they are well prepared for special occasions and after such a lovely dining experience I wouldn't hesitate to come back!

Having spent 18 months in India I've eaten plenty of Indian food, this is not the best but its really authentic. If you like unfussy South Indian food this is the place. The style of the restaurant is really basic, you come here to eat! The prices reflect this, I can't remember what I paid, not much more than ten bucks all in. We shared and I tried the thali, the idli, the masala dosa, all of them are exactly to standard, tasty and satisfying. The ladies working here are friendly in a polite warm way. They came over and checked the food wasn't too spicy for the young teenage boys I had in tow, it wasnt which made them really happy! Such a sweet place, no frills and no pocket damage! Pop if your passing and pick up an authentic bargain.

The dining area is tiny, but the food here is full of fresh, flavoursome and fragrant spices. You just know it's real food. So do plenty of others who know what to look for. Don't tell the vegetarians around here, but my favourite thing to eat from here is their yellow yoghurt and zucchini curry: I get take away, warm it up, and stir in some freshly pan-fried chicken thighs for a fast affordable meal that just dances on the tongue.

They do have a big TV above the bar but when we were there it was mercifully only playing music videos at a decent volume. They've got Jalapeno Poppers as a starter, and jars of sliced jalapenos on the tables. I like they way they think... The Cheesus Burger is a big whack of food. I expected the different flavours to drown each other out but the different cheeses were all well represented. I was happy that a burger with that much cheese and bacon didn't taste too salty. If I order it again I'll ask for extra blue cheese but only because it's an entire food group as far as I'm concerned. Some of the extras are a bit pricy. $2 for onion? I'll pass. Otherwise the costs seem pretty reasonable for what you're getting. Their gluten free buns are a bit dry compared to some places, according to my wife, but a light toasting could probably take care of that. They were absolutely flat out and still getting over some minor opening day hiccups when we went so I'm yet to try getting them to make some of their regular burger options with their vegetarian patties. They do however say they're making their own patties so I've got high hopes.

I can't say I really remembered what Dosa was either. And to top it all off, I'm not a vegetarian and this place is. But here I was. Out front and ready to give it a go. The signage and decor give off a down-market Americanised Indian food vibe, but inside, the place is swimming with appreciative people of Indian background and my partner and I were the odd ones out. Sure, the decor and the menu look dated, but given I don't indulge in Indian food that often, I was grateful that every item seemed to be photographed and fairly clearly described. Even with the helpful menu, I was still glad I was with someone who knows their Dosa from their Puri and so that helped me try some food I mightn't have tried otherwise. I liked everything I tried but my one piece of advice to you is that if you've never had Puri, do. You take these little fragile balls of puffy deep-fried dough, crack a hole in them like easter eggs, fill them with tasty savoury vegetables and then pour in some exotic saucy concoction. Swallow whole. Wow! That's flavour, and it's dancing all over your tongue. Who cares if there's no meat inside. It's a ride your mouth will enjoy.

This restaurant boasts with all the goodness restaurants have to offer without any compromises. -The restaurant is serving Afghan traditional foods. Along with deserts. -The food is fresh by which I mean the bread have just come out of the tandoor and you should be cautious not to burn yourself (its not going to burn you), The Tikka Kebab that we had was lean backstrap meat which was juicy, fresh and quite possibly the best I have had. The exterior is rather unassuming, a small door which leads to a flight of stairs. The restaurant is situated on the second floor and if you are not familiar with traditional Afghan décor, you will be surprised by the ornate interiors and rich, dark woodwork. On the walls, you will find plenty of references to Afghanistan like pictures, maps, traditional outfits etc.... Pamir has a very warm and comforting ambience. There is plenty of seating space so bookings are only essential on weekends but you are likely to find a place even without one. But do make a call beforehand as the restaurant is often booked out for events and social gatherings. Within seconds, we were greeted by the hostess and seated at a comfortable table. Pamir does not have a bar but its BYO so remember that when you visit. The food mainly revolves around traditional Afghan and Uzbek cuisine. The menu is pretty self explanatory but if you do need suggestions or help to understand the flavours of a dish, the staff is always there to help you out. If you are eating at Pamir for the first time or want to experience many dishes from the cuisine, then the banquets are the best choice. There are different types depending on the number of courses and also a vegetarian version. Since we were familiar with the dishes and have had the food before, we decided to go a la carte for the day. The first to arrive at the table are the dips (also referred to as chatnis) followed by the salad and flatbreads. Three different types of dips or chatnis are served and these are the minty cucumber yoghurt dip, tomato chilli chatni and the carrot dip. The salad is a simple one with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions and leaves drizzled with vinaigrette. And the flatbreads, one of the best I have had; soft and pillowy and perfect to scoop the chatnis. The next dish we ordered was the Chapli Kebab which is basically grilled lamb mince patties flavoured with coriander seeds, chilli, herbs and onion. Chapli Kebabs are quite famous in northern India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Chapli kebabs at Pamir were just perfect, so full of flavour especially that hit of coriander which warms your tastebuds yet allows you to taste the meat. The kebabs were tender with the mince cooked just perfectly. Highly suggested! There was no way we weren't going to order to a plate of Mantu, one of our absolute favourite things to eat from this cuisine. Basically, these are steamed dumplings with mince and onions; then topped with a chilli chatni and a yoghurt sauce. An absolutely delicious experience! If you are a dumpling fan, then make sure you try the Mantu; you might not want to eat dumplings any other way. Another must try here. There are plenty of vegetarian options on the menu and the next dish we tried was Potato Borani - finely sliced potatoes which are pan fried, flavoured with spices and herbs and finished off with tomato and yoghurt sauce. Nothing more to add except that it was really delicious and makes a great vegetarian dish. And we finished the meal with the traditional Uzbek Pallow, a rice dish with lamb. The menu calls it as lamb biryani but that name is rather misleading as biryani takes on different avatars in different cuisines; this one's more of a pilaf. Long grained rice that has been flavoured with whole spices and has a generous portion of carrots and sliced lamb through it. Just this rice and the yoghurt dip can make me a very happy girl. Absolutely delicious. There isn't much choice when it comes to desserts so we decided to skip it. But I would love to see a few traditional sweets or desserts on the menu apart from the lassi, gulab jamun and icecream. You can finish off the meal with the traditional black tea which is great for digestion too. In a nutshell, a restaurant you do not want to miss if you are looking for delicious, high quality, traditional Uzbek and Afghan cuisine. Make it your weekend priority!
