After seeing a Facebook post about all the vegan places in Melbourne, especially the visually stunning video of their burger, we made a special trip to come here. It's only a 15 minute tram ride from CBD. Like other reviews, it is a bit over priced for what you get. We split a jackfruit burger. It is beautiful with the green bun but the ratio of bun to jackfruit is sad. Considering jackfruit is huge, you'd think we'd get a bit more. Mostly bun though. The included side of fries was minimal....disappointed. It's also very hipster and it was full of young, well tanned and thin girls using the word "like" every other word on their conversation. Unlike some reviews though, our service was friendly and immediate. No wait and he was very nice. What's the deal with ketchup here? So far no one supplies it or else you have to pay for it.

After i order the food I wait for whole one hour to get the food, and the food is disappointing. I know it is a vegan restaurant but it make everything so weird. It took soooo long for food serve. There are ice cube in Açaí Bowl and the ice shake didn't taste good. The chicken burger tastes sour and it look plain. The matcha latte taste like milk with no matcha. Never go here again.

I was looking forward to coming here for a while now. It's very aesthetically pleasing and all the food options on the menu sound very good. I ordered a matcha iced latte and a bowl and I was expecting a lot more flavor from them. They were a tad slow & though the employees we nice they weren't very attentive.

Never have i ever been treated so badly with snobby staff, hoity-toity overpriced food and awful flavours. I arrived at around 9.45 on a Sunday and asked for a table of four. We were told a 15 minutes wait and were told that we would receive a text. No text had been received by 10.30. When I went to inquire I was told that it was a further 20 minutes wait. We then decided to make a move as the waitress refused to give us a table outside despite it having been empty for 15 minutes. When we began to walk away after yelping another place, she ran after us and told us we could sit outside. When seated, we noticed there was a table inside for four but when asked if we could move we were told that it would mean removing us from one list and putting us on another list which would mean another hour long wait. Wtf! How is this reasonable! Insanity I say!!?! The prices are outrageous. Between us we ordered the following: 1. Chicken soy burger on matcha bun with mushroom bacon and sweet potato fries - didn't taste like chicken, didn't have the texture of chicken, mushroom bacon was sweet and smoky, quite bland, needed some sauce, sweet potato fries were cold and slightly soggy - where are the salt and pepper shakers 2. Salmon (red capsicum), vegan eggs and potato rosti - vegan eggs taste like coconut with a weird texture 3. Corn fritters with saffron hollandaise sauce - hollandaise sauce tastes like broccoli 4. Carrot cake latte - small sized, interesting is all I can say. Wouldn't get it again. 5. Matcha matcha - massive cup, very sweet 6. Mork hot chocolate - tasted floury and bitter 7. Jackfruit bbq - meant to be like pulled pork. Tastes nice and spicy like a chutney - best thing we had and it's a side. So that's saying something. Very overpriced for what you get. I mean a latte is 8 bucks with a shot of espresso and the size is small. Small!! The water is meant to provide three times the hydration than other water. What a load of bull. I drank the entire bottle and it didn't quench my thirst and that is around 12 cups of water so yeah! Glasses looked dirty and sticky. The food tastes awful. I have had better vegan/ vegetarian food. And the service is outrageous. They refused to bring the bill to our table. And when we went to pay at the counter, the waitress yelled out "MOVE- EEE". Seriously some irritable attitude. Maybe she needs to eat some bacon.

The longevity bowl from Costa Rica

I am more than willing to admit that I have been swept up in the health-focussed craze that is currently making it's way through Melbourne. Not a day can pass me by without the words Organic! Plant-based! Turmeric! and so on, being thrown in my face. I don't mind it. I like to pretend to be healthy too. And so I trekked out to St Kilda with a pal (we call St Kilda the Gold Coast) and found ourselves at Matcha Mylkbar. I was actually quite surprised by how small the space was. It could probably only seat about 30 people and is a very simple set-up. Now, I mean this with all the love and compassion my body can hold, the service here is weeeeeeird. When we walked in, a few staff members looked at us but no one spoke. We waited a few minutes before someone finally came up and said "So what's going on?" Umm, I'm hungry. That's what's going on. Eventually he offered us a seat (after we had to go for a walk for 15 minutes) before I had to flag down yet another staff member to order. Thankfully, my 'longevity bowl' came out very fast, as did my matcha latte - both were absolutely delicious. I had the Costa Rica 'longevity bowl' - called that as it is based on the diets of the long-lived populations of the world's so-called blue zones. It featured quinoa, blue corn taco, corn, mixed beans, sweet potato and dehydrated blood orange. The quinoa was a little over-powering but overall this was an incredibly delicious and filling meal. So finally, after being fed a delicious meal things were looking up for Matcha Mylkbar... until the staff diddled it up once again. I waited at the counter for five minutes to pay while the three staff members chatted amongst themselves. Finally I overheard one of them say "Should one of us serve this woman?" DO YA THINK? The owners have done well to create an original menu, showcasing plant-based ingredients and creating some truly memorable and delicious meals. They just need to train up their staff.

Matcha pancakes ($20) and matcha burger ($20)

I was a little wary about eating at Matcha having read and heard negative reviews but finally bit the bullet as I have wanted to try it out for some time and am glad I did. I love the whole concept, set up & layout and menu choices here. I think Matcha is a great addition to the diversity of Melbourne restaurants and the cafe scene. I ordered the Matcha pancakes with lychee, raspberry, passionfruit, white chocolate sauce, macadamia crumb, lemongrass and macadamia ice cream. I wasn't sure what impact the lemongrass would have on the dish but all together it just works! My friend had the soy chicken burger with mushroom bacon, avocado, beetroot and sweet potato fries and she really enjoyed her meal. The service was just O-kay ..not great and definitely has room for improvement but aside from that the chefs out the back clearly know what they are doing. This place is definitely a niche in the market and won't be for everyone but is great for something different.

This place is a go to for me and my friends. They always switch up the menu so there's always something new to try and eat and every time & when I try something new I'm never disappointed. The decorations inside are also very interesting and Instagram-able so we love coming here and taking a cute picture for the road. Not to mention their iced Matcha with coconut milk is my favorite drink on the menu. Don't ever change matcha!

Food nerd alert! From a faraway land (Perth) I spotted Matcha Mylkbar in a field (Instagram) and immediately set my sights (stomach) on checking the cafe out and it did not disappoint. The menu is more than words about food, it's an education. Starting off with 'Blue Zone Bowls' that lists the top 5 healthiest cultures in the world and creates wholesome plant based abundance bowls accordingly. The Loma Linda, California bowl caught my eye with coconut rice, lentils, guacamole, pineapple salsa and kasundi style peanut sauce that I want to marry - or alternatively, take home a jar of. It was filling with surprising flavour combos and beautiful presentation. I couldn't go 'Gram crazy on the famous green matcha pancakes due to the gluten factor (although the owner tells me it will soon be GF!) - but I did one better by adding a VEGAN EGG to my California bowl, and boy o boy did my excitement meter crash through the vine wrapped roof! Hear me out (I can see your nose turning up) - it's a Melbourne invention using sweet potato, turmeric and coconut to reimagine the humble poached egg. The result? Satisfaction with a side of surprise - the egg white element does in fact taste exactly like the original, but the yolk (while impressively coloured 'egg' yellow) wasn't enough of a savoury hit for me. But definitely worth the intrigue of the experience. The sweet potato fries with almond butter (top points for putting my two favourite things right when) is a must order. And plant based experimenters will love the 'mushroom latte' made from medicinal chaga and coconut milk. I'd also try the turmeric latte and chai tea. Top marks for culinary creativity! The cafe itself is quite small and bustling - so 2-4 people or a solo rendezvous is ideal for a meal of plant based magic.

The service, the food, the ambiance... everything was amazing! Would highly recommend. Based on the reviews here, I expected the service to be worse, but it was actually very helpful, nice and quick!

// eggs on toast // This is a must. No matter how tempted you are to order other things in the menu, the eggs on toast is hands down the blockbuster at Matcha Mylkbar. We've had vegan eggs from different restaurants and cafes around the world but this one is different. The texture of the egg is marvelous and tastewise, it doesn't disappoint. We were expecting it to be salty but it wasn't. Which is what sets it apart from the other ones that we've tried before. It goes on well with the toast and the flavour gets more and more pronounced with every bite. // soy chicken burger, mushroom bacon, avocado, beetroot kraut, matcha bun, beetroot hummus, sweet potato fries // You've never had a burger like this before. Trust me on that. New York, I Love You - yes that movie with a stellar cast. It's just like this burger. It has all the things that you want in a burger. Not only that, the patty blew me away. It was so good that I had doubts if it was really vegan. But alas, it is vegan. The matcha bun was fluffy and it gave the burger a shot of something extraordinary. Who would've thought that matcha would go well with something this savoury? Another good thing about this burger is that the sauce did not overpower the patty nor the burger itself. The combination was definitely superb. This burger is probably the best first date burger. It's not messy and it's pleasing to the eyes. You'd definitely score a kiss or two. // matcha pancakes // For some reason, eating these pancakes took me back to watching Lost In Translation back in the early 2000. If I can explain the flavour in terms of films, it would be likened to the perfect on-screen chemistry between Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. The pancakes are delicately smooth and pleasing with a very thin veil of agave syrup. Upgrade it with ice cream and it feels like Shibuya in your mouth - sweet, innocent, playful - pleasing all the senses. Pancakes should be made like this. Perhaps, it's the new gold standard.

The biggest bowl of matcha, it's soup! Delicious

The menu had a lot of great options for everyone and such a difficult decision. Friendly survive and buzzing place. Clearly everyone is also trying to try it out ! Hopefully the trend of matcha doesn't wear out but at least they have a variety of food, even burgers. Hearty and holesome vegan food

I read about Matcha Mylkbar a few times in a Melbourne magazine so I was very excited to try this place out when I went over to St Kilda for the festival. I didn't do too much research so I didn't know it was a completely vegan cafe which was fine since we only ordered drinks. I went for the matcha latte, and my friends ordered a cafe latte, cacao latte, and a strawberry smoothie. The matcha latte was nothing like I've had before. I'm very used to matcha having a sweeter taste but this one tasted like straight unsweetened green tea, a little grassy. Not to my liking but if you like your matcha lattes unsweetened, this may be for you. I was told that you can find better cafe lattes in Melbourne and that the cacao latte was good, but tasted just like a hot chocolate. The smoothie was so good !! The atmosphere of this place is great. There are about 10 tables and it's very simple. Service was okay. You had to flag someone down to take your order if you weren't ready as soon as they brought water to your table. Prices were not cheap but not extremely high either. Next time I would go back for a smoothie and to try some of their vegan food!

Yummy dragon fruit acai bowl and punny water!
    Eliza L.

Such an awesome place! Great vibe, really focused on bringing deliciousness to the people. So surprised that it is all vegan, everything was so yummy. I had a dragonfruit acai bowl because I'm still recovering from having my wisdom teeth out but it was one of the most favourful acai bowls I've ever had! It had nice crunchy honeycomb sort of things in it too for an extra dose of sweetness. Hilariously named smoothies like "when kahleesi wears Lycra" and "excuse me but I find you very appealing". Sounds so silly to say, but as our waitress pointed out that's the whole fun behind it! The "I find you very appealing" smoothie tasted like pancakes and was just awesome! The smoothies are huge though, would definitely recommend sharing between two people! Check my blog @twocogsinawheel for my full review!

It's great to have a 100% vegan option at the Queen Vic night markets, which for years have been very heavy on the meat. Not to mention, the food here is YUM. Right now they have 5 things on the menu, all vegan: - Middle Eastern Open Wrap - Japanese Udon Noodles - Yellow Lentil and Coconut Curry - Laksa Noodle Soup - Sesame Crusted Tofu I've had the Middle Eastern Open Wrap and the Laksa Noodle Soup. My friend had the Yellow Lentil and Coconut Curry. All very tasty. The Middle Eastern Open Wrap was my favourite -- it's probably one of the best falafel wraps I've had in a long time, and it seemed like a real step up from the junky kind you get at kebab shops. This one actually tasted somewhat "gourmet," if you know what I mean. Real thought was put into the flavours and the sauce, which was delicious. The laksa was OK -- a bit messy to eat if you can't find a seat and you have to stand around awkwardly holding the bowl in one hand and trying to navigate with your chopsticks/spoon in the other. (I'm bad with chopsticks anyway and nearly stabbed myself in the eye at one point.) This food stall is located next to the Sri Lankan food stall, away from the main row of food stalls, so you kinda have to hunt for it. It's further south than the main row of food stalls, if that makes sense -- kind of in the middle of the building, with more of the non-food stuff. On the plus side, that means the queue is much shorter than at other food stalls! Prices are right in line with every other food stall at the Queen Vic Night Market -- i.e., a couple of dollars overpriced, but you're paying for the atmosphere of the place. Really great food stall. I'll be back.

Supercharger's OK…read more I love that it's vegan and healthy, and it's definitely fresh and nutritious and packs in a LOT of food that's excellent for your body. It's especially awesome that you can get something vegan and healthy in a food court setting! I'm a vegan and it's super-awesomely-great that I don't have to settle for french fries and/or a boring falafel wrap when I meet friends here for lunch. But something about the flavour profiles here don't sit quite right with me. I don't know what it is. For a long time, I would come here and order the "make your own" types of bowls, where you pick and choose what you want, and no matter what combination I chose, I always chose something that tasted a bit weird when put together. Not BAD, mind you, just weird. I always dismissed it by telling myself: "Self, you are no gourmand. Your idea of 'gourmand' is actually eating out instead of blitzing the crap out of something in the microwave at home. So it's not Supercharger -- it's you. You just chose the wrong combinations and they just taste funny TOGETHER." However, lately I've been getting the "pre-set" Supercharger meals rather than designing my own, and they STILL taste a bit funny. I don't know what it is. I'm not crazy about all the tahini sauce -- tahini is a little too bitter for my liking. The curry seemed to have a strange combination of spices -- it was mild, but the spices just didn't taste right all mixed together. I ended up throwing half of it out -- and I hate hate hate wasting food! The cauliflower seemed sad and limp and flavourless. The rice and quinoa bowl, however, was delicious, with very fresh-tasting carrots, corn, etc. Maybe I'm still just not ordering the right things? I don't know but I've eaten here easily 6-8 times and really only enjoyed about half of what I ate, tolerated another 40% of what I ate, and flat-out hated 10% of what I ate. As far as price goes, it's moderately expensive but come on, you're at the Emporium food court where people are dropping serious money on handbags and clothes and shoes so I don't blame Supercharger for superovercharging. On the plus side, you do get a lot of food. I'm quite full every time I eat here. The concept of a fresh, nutritious, plant-based eatery in a food court is AWESOME, so two thumbs up for Supercharger. But the flavours just aren't really my speed and it would be great if they put some effort into improving them -- then they'd get 5 stars from me!

However, the ordering process can surely be improved. Invest in some iPads, do something - anything! - but persist with the current system of paper sheets with so many options laid out in a non-intuitive manner (that require someone to erase them after use). Parking is for 2 hours with additional 2 hour parking space available just across from the supermarket parking on Brougham Street. V Series was previously known to locals as 'A Caterpillar's Dream' and under new management, the same management/family as Tao's Restaurant in Bulleen, it has now become V Series with the same head chef. The cafe like the previous cafe still serves contemporary vegetarian food with vegan and gluten free options. When we arrived at 11:30am on a Saturday, the supermarket parking was very full so we drove through to the car park on Brougham Street. The cafe itself was reasonably calm and having tried the food, I am a little surprised that was the case. The menu itself, I must admit was a little overwhelming with a mish mash of cuisines and types of food available; meaning there's basically something for everyone on the menu (a great place to cater for a group with different preferences). Instead of the usual vegetarian breakfast items or pasta and burger (next time perhaps!), we opted to try a few dishes from their noodle, bento and small items menu which clearly had an Asian influence to them. Dishes that make up this review: Stewed tomato noodles (vegan); V Series's signature Taiwanese tomato broth noodle ($16). Extremely appetising with the sweet and a little sour broth. Bento box (vegan); teriyaki mock chicken served with multigrain rice, spring roll, enoki tempura and pumpkin salad ($18). I wasn't a huge fan of the multigrain rice (perhaps a little too healthy for me hehe...) but the variety and the rest of the bento was delicious. Not normally being a fan of mock meat, I actually did enjoy this and found it to be as close to the real thing as it can be in flavour but not in texture. Green tea soba noodle (vegan); organic Japanese green tea buck wheat noodles tossed with avocado, spinach, kale, goji berries, cashew and sesame seeds ($16). A cold dish with a nice sesame dressing and fresh salad. I didn't personally love the goji berries in the mix (they kind of stick to your teeth) but that aside, I enjoyed the dish and probably will request no goji berries next time. Crispy peking bean curd bun (vegan); Asian style steamed bun stuffed with daikon pickles, cucumber, coriander and peanuts ($10 for 2). The bun was nice and soft even once cooled down (after all the photo taking), the bean curd was crispy and the Peking sauce was delicious. A great combination that surprisingly works. Vegan cupcakes; salted caramel and cheesecake ($5.50 for regular sized and $2.80 for mini). The cheesecake cupcake was definitely a first for me and probably my favourite of the two (I could not tell the difference between the real thing versus vegan). The salted caramel cupcake on the other hand while still tasty and moist, I could tell the texture of the chocolate cupcake was not exactly the same as its non-vegan counterpart.
