If you have ever been lucky enough no know the joys of discovering that the mirage in the distance really is an oasis and not a figment of your imagination, then you will be just as happy as that moment when you find Oasis Bakery. Oasis Bakery will give you shade on a hot summers day and quench your thirst with a selection of worldly delights. Every time I come here with one item in mind, I have no choice but to walk around the supermarket section and fill up a shopping basket, but not before I finish their star attraction... The Shawarma.

What is it about this place that drives me ten more kilometres away from my route than I would otherwise? Well, there are a mountain of reasons for anyone in need of anything middle eastern. Aisles of spices, sugary treats, ingredients of the Middle East. That is only half the story. This place also have, tangine dishes, kebabs, rice dishes, pizzas, breads, coffee, tea and is oh so different than your average joe restaurant. Going to this place will take you to the land of desert culture, and thousands of years of experimentations and evolutions of food. There are staples of food that came to the middle east (potatoes) with globalisation and became part of those cultures and other ingredients that were natural to this place. Either way I see only beautiful things happening from that.

After hearing of this place for a few years now, I decided to venture in. Clearly with signs out the front stating that Oasis Parking available at rear indicated this place gets busy. Upon walking in, table real estate is at a premium, so don't come alone. Get a seat, and then check out the menu. Oasis Bakery certainly has a cosmopolitan vibe to it, and is not shying away from its Lebanese roots. The breakfast menu is well varied but not extensive, so one does not stare at the options for ages in an indecisive way. Passing the open fridge for help yourself to beverages (including ciders) which at 9:30am on a Sunday I refrained. Place the order and received an electronic buzzer which kindly notified me of when my coffee and breakfast was ready for collection. Service was very friendly, food ready in a timely manner and tasting amazing, it is no wonder the Oasis Bakery has such a brilliant reputation in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs and is highly recommended. Come and enjoy for yourself!

I've been to France on the odd occasion, and I must say that every time I was in a Parisian bakery I'd think to myself "Wow, this feels a lot like Blackburn." That's not entirely true, but Blackburn and France are joined with a wonderful bakery serving the most delicious french pastries and more. Wit both owners as pastry chefs, you wont find a better place in a good ten kilometres of here. The only problem I've had every time I go it "What to have?" which often leads to "What to have first?" Vanilla slice with delicious flaky pastry. Tarts. Meringues. Eclairs. Cheesecakes. Truffles. The list goes on. For those after a more savoury selection, there is also pasties, quiches and pies. All bits are made fresh daily on the premises, so the best time to come is mid morning for the best selection available. Come any later and you may miss out. The coffee is a wonderful strong addition to the sugary sweetness of the pastries, and all the energy will keep you going until your next meal.

A non-pretentious little shop that sells fresh bread, pizza rolls, ham cheese rolls, cakes, croissants, sandwiches and other typical bakery items. They are quite busy during the mornings, with workers constantly coming in and out for a takeaway coffee and ham cheese croissant. They sell a few cakes (orange and poppy seed, sticky date, cheesecake, mud etc.), cupcakes, tarts, gingerbread men and meringues etc. They also sell muffins fresh in the mornings that are absolutely delicious! The flavors change every day, but they are all so good. I had a berry one once, and there was swirl of raspberry jam all the way through, it was fantastic. Definitely grab yourself a muffin from here. This bakery also stocks milk and pies.
