I've just had my worst day in business thanks to these people. On April 28th, 2016 I placed an order for 2 slabs of stone for a customer's bbq pit. I put down a deposit of $200 and had to bring in another $143 when it was finished. They told me they would call me when it was ready for pickup. On June 9th I called them and was told I needed to speak to Mike since he was the salesman that I made the purchase through. Mike never answered his phone with several attempts so I was told to leave him a message and he would call me back. He never did. On June 10 I called again (several times) and finally decided to wait on hold until mike would actually come to the phone. After 15 minutes of hold time mike finally got on the phone and looked up my order. He said "yeah it should be done by now. Let me call down to the yard and I'll call you back in 10 minutes". He never called back. The following Monday, June 13th. I called yet again and yet again was told only mike can help me, leave him a message he'll call you back. He never did. On June 14th I called again (at this point it's hard to keep my business composure) I again waited 10 minutes on hold till mike finally came to the phone, admitted he completely forgot about me, and once again said he'll call down to the yard and call me back in 10 minutes. SUCCESS! He called me back and informed me that the stone had been ready for pickup for a week. I asked why wasn't I called? His response was a simple "sorry, someone must've dropped the ball". Ok. Bad customer service, but at least I can finally get my customer taken care of. I call my customer James, inform him we'll be installing the stone Friday June 17th, he says great thanks. I go to earthworks, I pay the remainder $143.11 and wait for my stone. Surprise! It's not here! Where did it I go? I ask. "Maybe someone saw them and wanted them so we sold them" is the only answer I received other than "I don't know" with a bewildered look on each face. So at this point I'm in disbelief wondering how they'll attempt to remedy this epic failure. The best they could offer is they can reorder it and my customer and I can wait another 6 weeks in the hopes that maybe they'll get it right this time. Some may ask at this point was a discount offered with the additional wait time? No sir. Of course not. So at this point I say it's OK, I'll take a refund and go to a professional company. They refund my $143 in cash, but even though my deposit was also paid in cash they refused to refund that in cash. I was told that they would send me a check in the mail or no refund. So I accepted the check as the only way to recoup any money. As I couldn't put it in my account or I would have to pay taxes on cash I paid out. So I took it to their bank where of course I had to pay a fee of 7 dollars to cash my deposit because earthworks refused to accept the fee. On top of that I had to wait 20 minutes at the bank while the bank verified that they were authorized to cash the check because when they called the officer of the company the officer told them "let me check on that for you and I'll call you back" after the teller was hung up on twice. We already know how well they return phone calls. Thankfully the teller wasn't shy to call her a total of 4 times to verify it. So in total, it cost me 7 dollars cash, 30 dollars in gas, several hours on the phone and an additional 2 hours of waiting time to accomplish absolutely nothing. Earthworks in my experience is the absolute worst place in Saint Louis to buy stone or any construction materials. Period. All future materials will be purchased through custom stone or Kirkwood material. read more
